The week of May 5 - 10, 2014
This was written starting on May 27, 2014. Yep, I'm still catching up!
Monday 5/5/14
Ron got me a new baggie of ice before he left for work at 4am, which I left on for 20 minutes or so, then took off so I could really sleep.
When I woke up, I managed to stumble out to the kitchen, made myself tea and refilled the baggie of ice, got a banana and the rest of the bag of Munchos for my lunch and went back to bed. I left the ice on my back for 20 minutes or so, then that was it until Ron got home. I just laid there and read and played my DS and slept. When he got home, it was more ice.
That was my day.
I tossed and turned - as well as I was able to - all night long. Not much sleep at all. I am also nauseous most of the time, even though there is nothing in my stomach.
Tuesday 5/6/14
Pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday, except I ate dry roasted peanuts and a banana.
I did manage to get out of bed so Ron could take me up to my TOPS meeting, although I was just going to weigh in and not stay for the meeting (that's hard to do when you can't sit!), and I have lost 6.2 pounds! I don't see how, not in just a couple of days, but I'll take it and run (I wish!). We come back home and I watch NCIS with Ron, laying in my recliner. He rescued me out of it - the recliner, that is. I can't push the footrest down by myself - as soon as it was over, though, and I went straight back to bed with another baggie of ice.
Yet another restless night of sleep. Still nauseous, too.
Wednesday 5/7/14
Okay, I admit - I can't stand it anymore!! The ice by itself just isn't cutting it, so I call the doctor's office, even though I know I won't get to see MY doctor, which I hate. But...I've got to do something now, and this is probably the cheapest route. I call and get an appointment for later, and then start making calls and texts to get a ride over there. Luckily, that turned out to be the easy part - getting the ride, that is.
Now - get up, get a shower, get dressed, OH YEAH - be ready when my sister got here. Uh huh. We take my car, which has reclining seats - the not being able to sit thing - and off we go. I hobble into the doctor's office, and lay across a couple of seats until they call me. The nurse who called me back changed her mind from putting me back in Room 4 and quickly put me in Room 1 when she saw my condition and didn't weigh me or anything, thank God! The doctor ordered x-rays, gave me muscle relaxers and pain pills and that was about it. Said the ice is a good thing, too. She would call when she got the x-ray results. Well, okay.
I went next door (yay!) to get the x-rays done, again laying across chairs until called. Why are x-ray tables so hard? The very last x-ray, she pulled my legs down (oh.my.god.) saying that she "wanted to get my spine as straight as possible." Well, I hope to hell it was straight and not broken NOW. Damn, did that hurt! Even on top of what I was hurting. I know she knew she hurt me, too, because I gasped and clenched up. She could have at least warned me, I think.
Finally, we are on our way home. After stopping by Walgreen's for my drugs, I offer my sister a bite of lunch - drive through somewhere for a sandwich, but she refused, so we just drove through Wendy's here in Bethel and got me a combo to eat once I was back home safely tucked up in bed.
The drugs didn't help much, not that I noticed.
I managed to get out of bed and watch Criminal Minds (why does it have to be Season Finale season right now? I could miss an episode or two, but I can't miss Season Finales!!) and Ron rescues me from my recliner, then back to bed I go.
I took more drugs for the night, but still didn't sleep much. Not as nauseous, but still there.
Thursday 5/8/14
I didn't get out of bed today, except to go pee. Nothing. I took my muscle relaxers every 8 hours, and my pain pills every 12. I got 12 and 10 pills of those, respectively, and I wanted them to last!
Friday 5/9/14
I don't remember a whole lot about this day. I do remember that Ron made me eat some supper, because I had not eaten yesterday, but I don't remember what. I guess the drugs are doing something - they are making me stupid. They sure aren't cutting the pain and/or helping me sleep. They SURE aren't relaxing the muscles, either! I think I hurt worse now than I did Sunday night.
Saturday 5/10/14
I MADE myself get out of bed and do my weigh-in this morning. I am very aware that I have responsibilities and things to do, even though I feel so bad, my brain is still functioning and I know that things still need to be done, and that I am the one that does, or usually does, them. Some of them, of course, like grocery shopping and dishes, are just gonna have to wait, but the things I can force myself to do, I will. So, I have Corgan set up the Wii and I come out and do my weigh-in.
According to the Wii, I have lost almost 8 pounds! 7.9 to be exact. Well. I send it off to the coordinator, with a note that I had fallen on Sunday, and don't recommend this diet.
I went back to bed, and that was my day.
Ron brought me in some supper, and I managed to eat a few bites of it, but I just don't have any kind of appetite any more. None at all. That's kinda worrisome, because I did earlier this week, and now I don't. Maybe that's another effect of those pills, I don't know. I am not as nauseous, but I don't have an appetite. Weird.
So - I have made it through one week of this. I don't like it. Not at all.

A wonderful, normal Sunday...and then DISASTER!
Sunday, May 4, 2014
written on Monday, May 26, 2014 -- yes, I have some catching up to do!
This day starts as any normal Sunday - alarm goes off, getting up, shower, dress, church.
We still have Corgan for a change, though, and that makes it a little different. When I get back from church, we gather things together for a picnic lunch with the family at Chilo Park. We stop at Felicity IGA for a few last minute things, and off we went for a very nice lunch!
This time, since we went for lunch and not supper, the museum was open and I got to go in there and look through it. It has been open on other times, but I never felt that it would be open long enough so I could look to my heart's content, and today, I could, so I did, and then, of course, we did the Nature Trail walk. I had my pedometer with me and it said that I walked over 6000 steps all day long, but I'm not sure that I reset it before we started out, so it may not really be true. I am pretty sure, though, with the museum and all, that I DID walk over two miles, though!
Ron and I got back home, and he piddled around outside, as he does, and I came in and got on the pute, as I do. He came in once and asked if I'd help him get the toter (trash can/dumpster/hauler) into the back of the truck when he was ready, so he could take it to work tomorrow and dump it. It was full of yard waste and pretty darn heavy and he wasn't sure he could lift it by himself. Let me tell you - if Ron thinks it's heavy, that sucker is pretty damn heavy! I told him I would, but remember I'm not much help, just let me know when, and we each went about our business.
As it got to be evening, he came in once again (for a potty break) and we talked about what to have supper. In the end, we decided to drive down the road - he needed gasoline in both his truck and for the mower, and it's so much cheaper down in Amelia. When we went, after getting the gasoline, we went to Bob Evans for supper because he was going to try their 'broasted' chicken - he does love chicken! - and I can always find something to eat there. He ordered, and they are OUT of that chicken! OUT! How in the world can that be possible? Their brand-new seasonal special, and it's suppertime, and they are OUT?? Jiminy. He finally decided on the pot roast dinner, and I chose the turkey dinner, and we enjoyed our suppers, even though they weren't what we thought they were gonna be, but that's how it goes sometimes.
When we got back home, I got back on the pute and he was closing things up outside when he called me to come help him with that toter. When I got out there, we decided that I would get IN the truck and pull up/guide while he did the heavy lifting. I got in the truck, and turned around. He asked, "Are you ready?" I was still 'lining up' to the toter and certainly was not braced for a lift, and answered, "No. Wait."
He lifted.
BAM. Over I went.
I landed pretty flat on my back, but I but did hit three separate times - right above my butt (that fleshy part of the back), my right shoulder, and then my head hit the toolbox across the back of bed of truck - I must have twisted just a bit to only hit my right shoulder, but DAMDAMDAMDAMDAM did I hurt. I writhed around the truck bed for a few minutes before I had to stop so Ron could get the toter the rest of the way in. He sure couldn't keep standing there holding it halfway up, now could he? And it was farther in the truck than out, so I stopped rolling to one side (and actually helped, because it was caught on the liner and he couldn't see that!) and he got it in, then wanted me to lay there, and he wanted to call the ambulance, and he was soooooooo nervous and upset. I said NO WAY to the ambulance - I did not want to go to the hospital, we sure don't need that expense right now! With his help, I made my way out of the truck and over to my car, where I stopped and rested in the seat for a couple of moments. But I couldn't sit very long - I hurt that bad - and I had him help me into the house and into bed.
I had him get a baggie of ice and a dish towel, and I figured that was good enough for tonight. I thought that would be enough for the next couple of days, even, and everything would be okay. We'd have to do the ice a lot, though, cause ice reduces swelling and I knew I'd have a lot of swelling. I wasn't really worried about my old hard Schmidt head or my shoulder that much - it was my entire lower back that worried me. It hurt all the way across, not just in one spot, and that was a little strange.
That was it for the the night. Bed. Ice on my back. Ron got a new baggie of ice before coming to bed, and that was that.
No more myfitnesspal. No blog. No nothing. Ugh. Life as I knew it has come to a halt. "I want normal!" I said in Saturday's blog. Wrong, Ralph!!!! No normal now. Of course, one must describe 'normal' but this is not normal in any way, shape, or form. Ah, well.
I should know better.

A lovely (windy) Saturday, and we accomplished things!
Saturday, May 3, 2014
I was up before the alarm went off this morning, which I suppose was a good thing. It meant that I slept very well!
I got up and did my weigh-in for my Biggest Loser contest, but I was the biggest Gainer this week, I think! UGH! According to the Wii, I have gained over 3 pounds since last Saturday! Terrible! And I exercised and everything this week, too. Blah, blah, blah.
I was so ready to go to the Plant Auction and forget all about this weigh-in! I knew what I wanted at the Plant Auction - columbine, tulips, and lilac trees - and about how much I wanted (needed) to spend - twenty bucks - and have been looking forward to going. I didn't get to go last year because of the heart attack, and then this winter has been too long! I ended up getting four columbine plants (one as a door prize), two lilac trees, and a forsythia bush. They didn't have any tulips, though. I think this long, hard winter did a number on the tulips around here, I really do. I wasn't expecting a forsythia bush - I haven't seen one of those over there for many years, if ever, and we've been looking for one ever since the one out by the rock in our front yard bit the big one. Our yard has looked lopsided ever since, and now maybe we can have twins again!
Corgan helped me plant the columbine (and oh, man, do I have to clear out some buttercups from in front of them!) and he helped Ron plant the forsythia, and then helped me tie up the branches. He was a fantastic help! I am getting another lilac from a friend tomorrow, so Ron and I will plant those tomorrow.
After the Plant Auction, my friends and I went to the FeedMill in Felicity to have lunch. I chose to have salmon patties, with mashed potatoes and green beans as my sides. I didn't get any gravy, or butter, on my potatoes, and just 'dunked' pieces of the salmon in the potatoes to eat them. They were oh, so good! I don't know what the fellers had back at home (come to find out later - nothing...sigh), but I had a great time!
Back home, as stated before, we planted things, then I played on the pute a bit while Ron mowed. Then Corgan talked us into riding our bikes down Hoover Road. He really liked the surprise we had waiting for him - a 'new' bike for him here! He just couldn't wait to ride it, and of course we had to go with him, nothing less than that would do. He was champing (chomping? - old argument) at the bit by the time Ron was finished! We did our ride, and I managed to ride 3/4 of a mile - round trip a mile and a half - and was pretty proud of myself. The guys rode all the way to the end of the road - a mile - for a two-mile round trip. My heart was beating pretty hard, though, and I didn't think I should push it. It wasn't thumping, just beating pretty hard, but I've turned into a chickenshit.
When we got home, Ron piddled around out in the garage some more, putting away everything after doing his front brakes today and I got back on the pute, then the guys came in, and we all played some Wii. First bowling, then mini-golf. Corgan won the bowling, I won the easy golf games, Ron won the medium golf games, and I won the hard golf games. We had fun! Somewhere along in there, I had a sugar low and drank some slugs of my orange juice, then I ate a peanut butter & orange marmalade sandwich for my supper between the medium and hard golf games. Corgan had Ramen noodles, and Ron had.....I don't know, or rather, I don't remember.
Then we went outside to light a fire in the firepit. Even though it's supposedly 60-some degrees outside, it's still windier than all get-out, and chilly! Downright cold, if you ask me, but no one ever does. I'm more tired of the wind than the temperature over the last seven or so months, I think. No matter how cold (or warm) it was - or is now - the wind just plays hell with everything. It was nice sitting out by the fire, though, and Corgan gets such a thrill out of being the firetender, you can't help but smile (inside) at him.
We munched on dry roasted peanuts as we sat by the fire, and Corgan would "light a torch" - also known as sticking a stick in the fire - then blow the flame out, then he'd hold a peanut in the smoke and told us that he was 'smoking' a peanut. He is so funny! He did this probably ten times or more.
We came in, and I made - yes, made! - Corgan take a shower. The boy had been outside in the garage, in the dirt, in the fire, all day and I thought it was most probably a good idea. He didn't, but I held firm on this one, and I won the battle. I may not win the war, but I won this battle and he took a shower, and I am trusting he washed everything. Possibly more fool me, but....oh, well. At least he went in there and came out wet.
We've been watching TV ever since coming back in, and I've been on the pute, but I'm about to call it a night. These long days are really getting to me! I want normal!
I put my food and exercise into MFP, and I am 372 calories short for the day! I thought about having a snack, but then didn't because it was already after 10. It sure sounds good, though......
I sure am glad Sunday is a day of rest.

A long, busy, sad but fun day
Friday, May 2, 2014
After staying up til 2 working on the Oreo balls, I had my alarm set for 8, because they were supposed to be up at church around 8:30 for the Rummage and Bake Sale to open at 9. I got up with the alarm, even though I wanted to hit snooze, oh, did I want to! - but I didn't, I got up and got packing up all the goodies I had 'maked and baked' yesterday. The Oreo balls had not set and I had to put them in the fridge and freezer as I packed up everything else. What a bite! I thought I made good time packing everything up, even those damn Oreo balls, and looked at the clock. 8:45. WHAT!!! Oh, shit! So I have to hurry and get dressed and drive like a bat out of town uptown - before 9. Yeah. Uh-huh. Ain't happening. I went and got dressed and got up there about ten after. I don't think people were dropping dead waiting for baked goods at 9am, anyway. I hung around for an hour, helping to bag up stuff others were dropping off in containers and helping however I could - who needs an extra hour of sleep, anyway?
At ten til ten, I made MY round of the Rummage Sale and found myself three items - a Bengals thing (snowmen!), a Christmas item (those trays that I use), and a big wooden bowl (the size I resisted buying a couple weeks ago at Trader's World). Not bad for 4 bucks, huh? Then I came home, and started packing up the food I was taking to the family get-together after the funeral.
Ron called, and he was off work and on his way home!! HOORAY!! We had NO idea if he would get off in time to come with me or not, or if he would just have to come over to the family get-together later on. It's so nice that he's able to go with me.
The funeral was so very beautiful. A very touching service. Hearing 'Taps' and watching the servicemen fold the flag (Uncle Buddy served in Korea) and present it to Ron's cousin was something else. If the wind hadn't been so freaking cold, it would have been a perfect day! It was sad, yes, but it was everything a funeral service should be. One of the flower arrangements was carnations and roses - all white. I got one of the white roses (that hadn't opened yet) to bring home.
We went to another of Ron's cousin's afterward for the family get-together. Last I heard, everyone was bringing a dish, so I made a big ol' bowl of potato salad, and dessert-ish stuff (just more of what I made of the Rummage Sale goodies). I also took the plates, napkins, and plastic silverware that I have plenty of around here - gotta use them up somehow!
We get there, someone had stopped and bought KFC, someone else LJS, and there was my food. That was it. I was not real pleased with that, but oh, well. It's not my concern, and there's nothing I can - or could - do about it, and I've learned (the hard way!) to let things like that go, so I let it slide off my back, and I enjoyed the afternoon so very much, just visiting and talking and all that. It was great!
We stayed there til around 5. On the way home, we stopped and got the oil changed in the BengalMobile. I had originally planned to do this on Saturday, but now I'm going to the Plant Auction tomorrow morning, and Ron is changing the front brakes on his truck, so that's out. We're driving right past Valvoline, so why not?
Since we couldn't do our 'usual' with getting Corgan tonight, we (Jean and I) had decided that I would let them know when we left Linda's, then they (Jean and Josh) would decide what to do to get Corgan to us. I let Jean know that we left Linda's but were stopping for an oil change. As we got to Valvoline, Jean texted - they had decided to go to Georgetown and we should meet them at Country Inn. I confirmed it was to eat supper, and about half an hour later, Josh was texting to find out where we were! I told him we were just leaving Valvoline, and he wasn't happy about - he thought we should 'almost be there.' Sheesh! Those guys should talk to each other, huh?
I told him what Ron and I wanted - sandwiches and fries - so they could order for us, and our food would be ready when we got there. We hadn't even been there a couple of minutes when here came our food - that was wonderful timing! My BLT was wonderful, and Ron didn't complain about his steak hoagy (mushroom, not pizza), either, so I am supposing it was just as good. When everyone was done eating, we left. Corgan with us, and them going back home. It would have been nice if Chelle had been able to come too, but she had to work a weird middle shift today.
We finally got home a little after 8. I was so glad! It has been a seriously long day, very mentally taxing - both lows and highs - and with very little sleep, I am looking forward to seeing my bed! Corgan has turned on his 'Most Stupid' shows (I guess 'Survivorman' is over for the night), so I think I do hear my bed calling me now. I'll go check my games one last time, and that will be that.
I put my food into MFP, and I was 20 calories short for the day! Yay! I did give myself credit for walking a mile and a half - between the Rummage Sale this morning, packing everything twice, the funeral, and the families, I'm pretty sure I was on my feet that long, if not longer, and that helped.
Tomorrow, I am going to the Felicity Garden Club's plant auction. These ladies dig excess plants up out of their own yards and sell them at this auction, so you gotta know these plants are good for growing in this area, and should do well in your own yard. I am interested in getting some columbine and some tulips, that's it. Maybe a lilac tree, if they have one. You never know what they will have! It's so much fun, and a great time to socialize over a common thing. It starts at 10 at the Felicity Community Center, and I wanna get there early enough to look things over before it starts!

Work, work, work, work, work.....all day long! A labor of love...
Thursday, May 1, 2014
Wow! Another month has started!
Today has been a day of labor. Work, work, and more good work. I started off baking chocolate chip cookies, then got a text from the woman running the rummage sale, wanting to know if I was going to bring her money today. "Money?" I texted back. "Yes, the seed money to start the rummage sale." was the answer. Oh, good Lord. Good thing SHE remembered, because neither I, the treasurer, nor the president/chairwoman did not, and that's kinda important! So, I had to track down someone else (we need two signers on a check) and go to the bank and get her the seed money, then take it up to her.
After I got that done, I went on down to WalMart to get more baking needs to continue my making & baking all day. I knew I would have to at some point, I just didn't expect to quite so soon.
Before going to WalMart, I went ahead and got my gasoline for tomorrow, and then to Bob Evans for some lunch - I figured I might as well have a good lunch, since I was just going to nibble while making and baking!
Then I got my shopping done, came home and dived back into my making and baking.
Ron got home around six, and I'm still hip-deep in making stuff, and I finagle him into peeling the potatoes for the potato salad for tomorrow. He wasn't happy about it, but he did it, then got the hell out of the kitchen for a while. He did come back out to make supper and made me stop and sit down to eat my supper. I had the potato salad finished by then, and we both enjoyed some of that with our hamburger patties, macaroni & cheese, and green beans.
Needless to say, I did NOT keep track of all my food to put into MFP today. I did put my exercise and my lunch in there, so my streak is intact, but I will not be able to close today out. Oh, well.
Now, here it is, almost midnight, and I am still dunking Oreo balls into chocolate, finishing them up. I may get done by 2. And I have to have all the goodies up at the church around 8:30 in the morning! Ugh, for sure! I hope you guys are planning on coming up to our Rummage & Bake Sale and buy some of this! Clothes are $4.00 a bag, so that's a pretty darn good deal, too!
