Today was a kinda strange day. First off, I slept VERY WELL. Seven hours straight - no get-up-and-pee, no dreams, no nothing - very strange for me. I felt real good when I woke up around 10. I read a bit, then got up by 11. Played happy homemaker for a while, even did some Wii (just 5 minutes of Free Step), then got on pute and played my games. I ate my lunch (chicken salad, walnuts, and a turnip) around 1:30.
I was cold all day, and just could not get warm. I had turned the heat up twice and didn't want to turn it up again - Ron would just come home and turn it down - so I eventually (around 5) just went in, put BOTH quilts over the bed and snuggled in and took a nap. Sure enough, I was asleep when he got home and had worried him a bit when I didn't answer his text that he was on his way. I sure didn't mean to do that, but I didn't even hear my phone go off, and it was right beside me!
I did feel a little better after my nap, but I still wanted HOT food for supper, so after exploring the cabinets, we decided to make out throw-together Spam casserole. That's mac&cheese, Spam cut into cubes, and this time we added a can of corn. WhooHoo. At least it was hot, though. It was tasty, too. I was really bad and went back for seconds. I haven't done that in a long, long time. I ate a serving - well, a serving and a half - of mellocremes for a snack during TV. That's 12 pieces. I thought it was one serving, but when I went to put it in myfitnesspal, a serving was only 8 pieces, so...bummer. Oh, well, I'll survive.
I also made some big decisions today. I decided what to get the bride-to-be for her bridal shower this Sunday. I decided what to get for 'gifts' for our GGG (Girls Gatlinburg Getaway) in November. I decided NOT to cry when my DIL told me they explained the whole Santa thing to our grandson....which was not easy, let me tell you! I did tear up, but, hey, I'm the granny!
Today is getting three stars for food - I was bad, had two helpings of supper, and 1.5 snack servings. It was good food, HOT food, but I was weak. Exercise only gets two stars - I only did the five minutes of Free Step. I meant to get on the exercise bike after Ron got home, but just never did.
I'm cold. I'm going to bed. Thank God for flannel nightgowns!

Run, Run, Run...then the reward
Tuesday, October 29, 2013
I got up this morning at 7. SEVEN!! I had to leave the house at 7:30 to go pick up my sister to get her to the SS office by nine. And, if you remember, she lives in Winchester. So, off I go. Luckily, the sun did not bother me - or my drive - until I crossed 32, which is only about 5 miles from her house. Man, that was a bit vicious for that little while. Glad I DIDN'T leave my house then...lol.
Anyway, I got to Winchester after stopping for gasoline in Mt. Orab ($3.12 a gallon! Woulda been $3.07 if I coulda used cash, but I didn't have any with me, and no ATMs going that way, not from my bank anyway) and off we went back to Batavia. What she had to do in the SS office took about 10 minutes! TEN minutes, can you believe it? They were so backed up, someone will call her next week for a phone interview. I am flabbergasted. 10 minutes. Sigh.
So, back to Mt. Orab we go to pick up her daughter to take her shopping - something else Ruth had on her calendar today, but the crack in her windshield was putting a hex on - and, once we picked her up, on to Georgetown we went. At Sav-A-Lot, I actually was going to buy a few items, too, but then Ruth wouldn't let me pay for my own things! Good thing I had only spent about 10 bucks, I guess. I didn't expect her to buy my few groceries - I wanted her to buy me some lunch! She said she was happy to be able to, though, because of all the running I was doing today, and have done, for her. So, I backed off and let her buy my stuff. Then we took Tam home, left to go to lunch, then took Tam back a bag she left in the car, then headed back out. I decided to go to a little store there in Mt. Orab I don't get to go to very often, down by the RR tracks, so we stopped there first. I found the cutest little sign that I could NOT resist (better than not resisting food, right?). If you see my Facebook, you have seen my sign. I LOVE IT!! They also have some of the big stars Ron and I have been looking for, to hang on the front of the house between the two smaller front windows. We'll probably go back and get one this weekend. I hope, anyway!
Then off to lunch we went. We went to Country Inn there in Mt. Orab and I got my ChickenNDumplings with double mashed (to dump the CnD over) and salad bar. I had a bowl of veggie soup and a salad for starters. Then, back down 32 to take Ruth home.
After I dropped her off, I called Walgreen's to see if my Rx had been called in yet, and yes, FINALLY, it has been - I've only been out of this medicine for two days now. So, here I go, back down 32 to go Eastgate to cut over to Amelia to go to Walgreen's. Wow, great fun. I called my friend Teresa to talk to while I driving that road again so it would go quickly. Thank God, she answered her phone (she doesn't always) and yes, the trip went really quick! I got my Rx, and headed for home, reaching there at 2:50 or so.
I got all my bags carried in and emptied, got on the pute and got to play for a while before Ron called to say he was on his way home.
I quickly put on my gym shoes and grabbed my jacket and took off walking, thinking to get in some walking for the day. I didn't get any more than a quarter mile, though, and there he was. Phooey. So much for that idea. We got back home, and just sat around mostly talking until time for me to go to my TOPS meeting. I did manage to get on the exercise bike (stationary bike on myfitnesspal) for more than a minute, too. I moved the resistance all the way to the LEAST setting. Corgan best not touch that knob again! I rode it for a mile and a half - over eight minutes, burning thirty eight calories. I made it up to ten and a half mph, too. I was kinda proud of myself in that first effort. My heart was beating very hard, though, which is why I stopped at a mile and a half - I wanted to make ten minutes, but I've GOT to listen to my body. Then, before I left, I showed him what I had got for him for his supper. His reaction? "I'll wait for you to get back to make it." HA! It was 'open a can of sausage gravy & cook a can of biscuits'! He is too funny! Off I went to my meeting.
Best news of the day: I LOST 6.6 pounds this week!!! How about that!! I sure don't know how, because I didn't exercise much - I couldn't breathe much! - at all, but I guess since I couldn't breathe, I didn't eat much, either. I was certainly happy with that! Oh, they all liked my new sign very much, too. LOL
Back after the meeting, I made the biscuits for Ron (and put the gravy on to warm) and also threw 3 square fish on the pan to cook for my supper. I told Ron that I would eat three of the biscuits, and all the rest (5) were for him. That, my friends, was supper. Fish on biscuits for me, biscuits n gravy for him. Yum.
I was over on my calories for the day - for myfitnesspal - but by less than 100. All those carbs, and within 100 calories of my total. Wow. If I had managed a bit more exercise, I would have been fine. Bummer.
Today is getting five stars for both food and exercise!

Getting back to exercise (that evil E word...)
Monday, October 28, 2013
Today ended up being a very good day. Yay! I needed one of those - Sundays don't really count, as they are just really sit and watch football days - you know, lazy days. They can be good food days, but...
Today was a good day all around. I woke up about quarter til nine, and laid there reading for a while, finally getting up and playing Suzy Homemaker (you know, laundry and dishes...). Then, on the pute I go and that's all she wrote for a while. I ate my lunch around two. I had my normal very well-loved chicken salad and walnuts. Very predictable, huh?
Then, I was planning to try that damn exercise bike again, but my daughter-in-law texted me - did I want to go to Chilo Park tonight? - oh, yes! How wonderful! We have not done that in quite a while, and I have missed it. I had to scrounge for something to take for food - I don't keep much in the house anymore, you know, certainly not much that is picnic-y. Ron wasn't going to be able to join us. I texted him about quarter after four, and he was just LEAVING to go out and switch out one last dumpster/compactor, so wasn't going to get home much before six thirty or so. Normal Monday. I shoulda known. And it's getting dark so early now, too. I decided to make mackeral patties, then just take pickles, both bread & butter and dill (chips/slices), string cheese, yogurts, pop cakes, and cherry tomatoes. They were bringing tuna salad, potato salad, and cole slaw. So we would have a good selection. I only had some of their potato salad, and they had some of my pickles and yogurts. They also had some of my pickles and I let them take the dills (which ended up being baby dills, not chips) home with them. The sneaky Petes ended up taking the rest of my loaf of bread, which is not a big deal, and my B&B pickles home with them, too, and they don't even LIKE those kind of pickles! Nobody had any string cheese or pop cakes. Oh, well.
Then we walked the nature trail, which, if you remember, is a mile long. My hip didn't start hurting until we were more than 3/4 of the way through! I was very happy with that! My sister Jean and I had started before the younger O'Tooles, and at one point, Corgan came running up behind us (we were kinda surprised they didn't catch us halfway through, we walk that slow and they walk that fast) and scared the poo out of us. Typical 9-year-old boy, right? I can't believe he snuck up on us through all those leaves, but I guess we were making enough noise of our own in the leaves that we didn't notice. We did good, it probably was just about half an hour to walk the trail, so not bad at all. I forgot to look at my cell phone for the time when we started, so don't know for sure, but it didn't seem like very long.
On the way back home, I had to stop at Felicity IGA for milk, and of course I checked out the Halloween candy, and of course I found some I just had to buy. SweeTarts Skulls & Bones!!! Yum!! 11 pieces are a serving, too. Do you KNOW how long it takes to suck on ONE sweetart until you just HAVE to bite it? Thus, how long it will take to eat 11 pieces? Cool! Such a wicked (lol) snack!! And only 60 calories!! I will definitely take it!!
So, home to Ron - I called him as I left Chilo and he was JUST pulling into the driveway! - and then pute and football.
Like I said, a good day all around. food, exercise, football. Husband, too. What more does a woman want?
Five stars for all!!

I will take Sundays like this!
Sunday, October 27, 2013
Today was a wonderful day!
Church, lunch (breakfast), football. Yay. Great food, great football. I will definitely take it!
We went to Country Inn in Georgetown for our breakfast, as we have been doing, and were joined today with some friends from church. As my Bengals weren't on until the late afternoon game, I wasn't as rushed in leaving - even though I still wanted to watch the early games, it wasn't as urgent - and we enjoyed our time with them very much. Nothing like good friends and good conversation, right? It ended up being quarter after one before we even headed for home. Then we passed a motorcycle/deer accident on 774, and stopped to see if we could help, but a few cars stopped already (maybe the cars were involved, too. We couldn't tell.) and had help coming. It did look as though the woman - probably the motorcycle passenger - had broken her leg. Please say a quick prayer for her - or send her some good healing vibes, whichever. I'm sure she will appreciate them. We got home, and I got my games on and my wonderful husband went outside to mow. He's such a dork. LOL It certainly was a gorgeous day, that's for sure.
My Bengals totally kicked ass in their game - against a good team! They only won by 40 points - yes, I said 40. They play again on Thursday night. Prime Time, even! How about that - I hope they have some more points in them for this week! Please, please, please...I guess the defense finally learned 'don't back off!' We shall see. I got on the pute for the second half of the game, and have been on ever since.
I warmed up the soup I brought home last night for our suppers, and that was that. Even though it was warm today, it was very tasty! Just the thing to close up a Sunday. And, yes, I was under my calories for the day - by about 300. Yay, me. Certainly hoping to get back in the exercise groove this week - I can breathe now, much much better.
Today is getting five stars for food, and, of course, zero for exercise.

A fun day for us
Saturday, October 26, 2013
Today was planned to be a fun day for us, and it turned out to be so. Although it started out just a little different than we expected, it went on and ended just as planned, and we can live with that.
Last night, when we went out, I noticed (on a sign in front of a store as we were driving down the road) that said store was hiring. When we came back by, though, they were already closed - at 8:30 on a Friday night! Heck, yeah - I can handle a job like that, I think. Even one that is standing for most of the time...
Anyway, I got up around 9 this morning and drove back down the road this morning and put in an application there. Unfortunately, as I did so, I was told that they had received 'quite a few' and they would be going through them, then calling people in for interviews, and so forth, so we shall see. Blah.
On to our fun day. I had made my famous - or should I say infamous - 7-layer salad last night after returning home (nothing like chopping veggies and boiling eggs at 10 pm, right?), so it could sit in the fridge and set and 'chill' all night long. So, today, we got the salad and our drinks and off we went to our friends' house for a day of games with other friends. Our hostess had made 2 big pots of soup - one bean soup, one vegetable soup - along with a bread to go with them. Other guests had brought munchies and desserts, and we brought the salad. We had our lunches, then we played Bingo all afternoon. Each guest had brought two gifts in plain brown paper bags (we spend less than $5 per gift). Whoever won got to pick a bag. It's all in great fun, and when we 'win' food, we open it and share with the whole table. The men LOVE winning little flashlights and such (some bags are marked 'man' or 'woman') - and of course the cans of nuts are very popular, too. Whoever won calls the next game, too, so no one gets stuck calling all the time, or anything. We have a blast!! After a while, we stop and have snacks, and when all the gifts are gone, we heat the soup back up and have supper. Then we played dominoes. We only played double nines this time - NOT double fifteens (thank God!) - and the game went so quickly that we decided to play back up - we had played from the nines down to the blanks - to the nines. We got back home around 10:30.
Yep, not a bad day at all. Quite a fun day. I'll take those any old time!
We did miss Corgan like crazy, of course, but we do need our adult time every once in a while, too. He had trick-or-treating tonight at a campground near his home. He, of course (this year), went out as Harry Potter.
I stayed under on my calories today, so I am giving today four stars for food. I did snack like crazy all day - tried not to, but soon caved in. Yes, I was weak. But damn was it good! No exercise at all to speak of, so zero there. No surprise, right?

I can write a blog tonight! Hoo-ray!!

Yay! Josh stopped by after his work today and got rid of those pop-ups that were stopping me from doing my myfitnesspal and writing my blog. I don't understand why my pop-up blocker didn't catch them, but I don't know all that much about computer stuff. I will be the first to admit that, and that is why I call my brat! But, yay! He fixed it! I think I missed writing it as much as people missed reading it. But, never fear, good people, I was mostly good on these two days - I didn't get to do any real exercise because I still can't breather too very well, but I did watch my eating.
Wednesday. I don't remember too much about Wednesday now. I should have written myself notes, but I guess I thought that whatever was wrong with my pute would go away overnight (yeah, I should have known better...) and I would remember. I had my chicken salad and walnuts for lunch, but don't remember supper. I think - I'm pretty sure we had leftovers from the luncheon for our supper, because we had that one day this week, and we had the chicken breasts on Tuesday, so it had to be Wednesday. So, I had tuna noodle casserole (1 cup), Johnny Marzetti (1 cup) and Ron had a whole bunch of stuff - a little bit of everything. Pork Chops from Saturday, too. Baked beans, corn pudding, rice, chicken-broccoli, and and and...
Thursday.
Oh, what a fantastic day! I had a heart doctor appointment in the morning. An echo (echocardiogram) first, then my six-month (yeah, I know. Heart attack was in January. October - January = 9 months. You know how dr.'s offices are.) follow-up. The echo. Ugh - that slimy gel stuff. But the pictures and stuff all over the screen were cool. I wish they meant more to me - they looked like huge gaping holes and volcanoes to me. The tech and I even talked about volcanoes during the process. You gotta talk about something, right? I was still mildly concerned - after all, I haven't really lost all that much weight. Some, yes, and yes, I am eating better - much better - and I am getting more exercise and all that, but...
Finally, in to see the doctor. He came in, asked some questions, then told me that my heart was 'beautiful' and did I have any questions? Come back and see him in six months. I MUST have danced my way out of there. I MUST have, I swear.
I then stopped at Butterbee's for my lunch. I finally chose the big cod (fish) entree as my meal. I even went so far as to have potato wedges as a side. My other side was chili - see, making better choices (okay, not totally, but I figured I deserved some kind of treat!) - not long ago, both sides would have been potatoes of some sort!
For supper last night, I heated up leftover beans for Ron's supper - gotta get them out of the fridge some time!!! A couple hours (yes, I was still THAT full from lunch) later, I finally had me a can of chicken salad and some walnuts - my usual lunch. I was back-assward yesterday!
Friday.
I woke up at 8:30 this morning. 8:30!! I laid in bed and read until after 10. I was so nice and cosy, I sure didn't want to get up, but my back was starting to hurt, so thought it probably a good idea. I put on my flannel nightgown (I think the house is always cold when I get up, don't know why) to wear instead of just a housedress (muumuu to most, tablecloth to my son). I wore that sucker ALL DAY. Oh, was I comfy! I got out all the bills and recent mail I haven't opened, my ledger, my calendar, all that paraphanalia and spent the next 3 or so hours catching that all up. NOT FUN. But - it wasn't any worse than I expected, and that, my friends, is a good thing. I do think, if I watch what I am doing, it may just be possible to get caught back up. Possibly by the end of January, if luck holds. Cross your fingers for us! Of course, we may not get to eat during this time period, but....(I'm joking, I'm joking!!) Groceries come out of the monies first, never fear. Groceries and gasoline. We know what we need to survive.
I got me some lunch (I fried myself 3 eggs (in my little square cast iron skillet) and made 2 slices of toast with a little packet of Orange Marmalade). Then, it was (finally!!) pute time and I did that until Ron got home. Then I told him, since we don't have Corgan tonight - he had a dance at school tonight (and from what I understand, he didn't have a good time, poor fella) - we are going out on a date! Not that we don't go out when Corgan is with us, but it is a little different. So he showered, changed, and off we went. We finally decided to go to Olive Garden. He hadn't been there in quite a while, and since I have been recently and he knew I had enjoyed going, thought he'd give it another try. He didn't want a tomato-y dish - that's not kind to our stomachs later in the evenings any more - and finally tried the seafood mezzaluna, which is the dish I've been getting there. So, we ended up getting the same thing. Hmmmm. Wonder if the waiter thought we'd been married a long time? No wine or anything, we both drank tea. He loved the breadsticks! We also shared only one salad - I forgot to tell them hold that vinagrette crap they put on it. <shudder> When we got close to the bottom, that stuff was swimming. <<double shudder>>
Back home, we put together the dish for our all-day excursion tomorrow. Then he fell asleep in the recliner. I got on the pute. 'Normal' evening for us, but NO TV. I was proud of him!
I was under on my calorie count, so I am giving today five stars for food. Exercise gets its usual. I sure hope I can breathe next week. I am so dreading getting on the Wii tomorrow morning.

Well, nothing like stepping on the scales to get back to normal!
Tuesday, October 22, 2013
Today, I got up right around 10. Glad to know, that even with the events of the last few days, I am still more or less right on 'schedule.' I got a load of dishes started - I had NOT done dishes all last week, and there were many, many dishes sitting in and around my sink, counters, and stove and boy, was it a job! Chip wanted to take a shower before 'hitting the road' today, so I had to let the first batch soak while he was using the shower, but that's what I do anyway. Put some in to soak, go play on pute, do those up, put more in to soak, etc., etc. I just usually don't have quite so many. I did have to empty the water and run fresh when I got to the pans, but that wasn't such a biggie. I just waited til I got back from our lunch (and Chip going...) and emptied the dishdrainer and started on the pans. It was a very nice break! Since we had gone to Gold Star last night, he wanted to go to Frisch's today. Hometown peeps coming back have to hit the hot spots, you know!
So, it was a Big Boy and a bowl of chili for me for lunch. I DID resist the fries today! I did have to add crackers (3 packs, 6 crackers) to the chili. It was just a bit on the thin, runny side. I then got a few errands around town done, and back home to finish the dishes, then pute (not that I wasn't on the pute while each 'load' was soaking, anyway...) time for a while! I also got the frozen chicken breasts into the crockpot along with a can of chicken with rice soup, and a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix, figuring it will be done when I get back from my TOPS meeting. With the leftover green beans (good green beans, with ham and onions in them!) as a side, that will be a very nice supper. At 2:30 or so, I decided that if I wanted to walk today, I'd best get on it, if I wanted to have a decent weigh-in tonight at my TOPS meeting. So, I called another TOPS member, who lives on Hoover Road, to see if she wanted to walk with me, and she did, so I got my gym shoes on, made a pit stop, and off I went. I got the walk in - it was just a bit chilly but damn, could I tell it had been a while since I had done any real exercise!
Ron gets home just a little after 5, so we got to spend some decent time together before I had to leave for my meeting. Yes, he stayed awake and talked to me! Can you believe it?
Here I am, weighing in. I wish I had emptied my pockets, gone to the bathroom, picked lint out of my belly button, and all that. Sigh. I GAINED almost 2 pounds. Really not a surprise, since this week was all running, running, running (okay: driving) and setting things up and phone calls and all that type of stuff. I did eat okay all week, but no exercise, and no really caring about stuff like this. So, not a surprise at all.
Home from the meeting, and I quite enjoyed my supper. I love it when plans fall into place! Or actually work, however you want to look at it...
Today gets five stars for both food and exercise! Food, for staying under on calories (okay, I only had 13 left, but...I was under!!) and exercise because it happened! That sure works for me!

Start with a funeral, end with a wedding
Monday, October 21, 2013
Today was a bittersweet day.
We said good-bye to my brother-in-law, Rex, this morning. I gave the welcome and told Rex's story at the funeral home, then a couple stories/remembrances were told, then we had a luncheon at the Parish Center at our church, since Ruth & Rex did not have an affiliation, and I could arrange something on short notice. It all worked out very beautifully, and went very smoothly, and I was very grateful for that.
Our brother Chip, who manages a restaurant in Niagara Falls, New York, had called me and said that he had worked his days off and was going to drive in and be here for Ruth on Monday, but could he crash here Monday night? Of course! What a neat surprise for her! Certainly unexpected, that's for sure. And, yes, he surprised her. We were in the Center, setting things up, when he came in and said something. She just stood there and looked at him for a moment, and then said, "I certainly didn't think I'd hear YOU say something..." and gave him a BIG hug. It was a really great moment! <side note: I'm tearing up again, remembering it>
After the Memorial Service, we came back to the Parish Center for the luncheon, and I had a little bit of a bunch of different foods for my lunch. I couldn't even tell you now all the different foods I had - well, I probably could if forced, but I'm not forcing myself! I will admit that I did enjoy 3 different pieces of dessert, although the chocolate brownie I had was waaaaaaay too chocolaty for me and I could only eat 3 bites of it. So, I guess I only had 2 desserts and 3 bites of another. I can live with it for one day. I like a bigger lunch, anyway. Right? Right.
For supper, as you can probably guess, my brother - the one who is in from out-of-town - wanted to go to DRUMROLL Gold Star! So, off we went...I got my normal 5 way & coney, but only ate half of the 5-way and gave the rest to Ron. I am thinking I will have GS for lunch again tomorrow before Chip hits the road again...lol.
Today is gonna get three stars for food - the luncheon was a lot pasta-based dishes. Even though I only got a half-spoonful of each, still...
Today is also getting TWO stars for exercise. All the walking I did, between the walking at the funeral home and then at the Parish Center, kinda half-ass "running the show" at both places (for lack of a better term), I think I probably put in at least a mile - my hips tell me I did, anyway.
Oh, the wedding I referred to in the heading? It was on TV. It was on 'Bones,' and if you watch the show, you will know it has been anticipated for quite a while.
I figured - morning, funeral; night, wedding. Day complete. Well, football to chill afterward. Aaahhhhhhh.

No running around planned. Yeah, right...

Sunday, October 20, 2013
This was supposed to be a quiet, calm weekend at home. I did all my running on Friday, so that we could stay at home on Saturday and enjoy the day and each other. It was Sweetest Day, after all. Uh-huh. You know what they say about plans, right? Yep, it happened. The you-know-what hit the fan. Luckily, not here, but we ended up doing some running because someone else couldn't, because of that darn fan, which is okay - it could have been a whole lot worse. And at this time, this week, we certainly don't need that. I won't go into detail, since it's not my story, I will just say I am sooooo glad it was not any worse than it was if it had to happen, and I am glad we were in a position to help.
I weighed myself for my first week of this go-round of the biggest loser contest, and I had lost a little over a pound, according to my Wii. Yay! I hope that stays true for Tuesday night at TOPS!
We got the running done that had to be done, in the time frame imposed upon the family by the funeral home, and then enjoyed a lunch at Wendy's in Amelia. It was funny - Corgan spent the whole time comparing Wendy's to McD's. And he is not very subtle, you know. I had a double sandwich with tomato and onions on it, along with fries. (It was around 3 pm by the time we could stop for lunch!) Since we were in Amelia, we did a bit of shopping at WalMart - no WalMart walk, since Ron and Corgan were with me - and got the few things I hadn't picked up on Friday. DayQuil, for one...lifesaving stuff when you need it! Still kinda can't believe I forgot it! Then back home to get ready to be swarmed upon. Well, just the other O'Tooles and Jeanie, but still...
We made pork chops with ShakeNBake, RiceARoni (mushroom), frozen mixed veggies, and peas for supper. I also got what was left of a jar of applesauce out of the fridge. I made up a little dish of both dill and bread & butter pickle slices, too. It was a nice little meal, if I do say so myself.
Today was a pretty normal Sunday. Church, lunch, football. Normal. I will take normal!
We went to Country Inn in Georgetown after church for breakfast. Ron and I are both really starting to like that big breakfast they have. It is a lot of calories, and I add more by putting butter on my potatoes, but damn is it good. And since I barely get home in time for kickoff (1pm), or even am five to ten minutes late, and don't eat again until suppertime, I think I can live with that.
MY Bengals won again today - they let the Lions make it into a nail-biter and won it in the last 4 seconds with a field goal. Someone needs to talk to the defense! Tighten up, dudes! Same score as last week, too. 27-24. How cool is that?
During the late afternoon games, I got on the pute, and my sisters and I got our comments and stuff all together for tomorrow. I still have to type my paper up, so I have a good copy to read from, because I sure don't want to try to read my scribbling - and I'm pretty sure I will be fighting tears, too.
For supper, I zapped me some leftover chili from out of the fridge, and that was that. I am still watching the night game. I was going to go to bed at HT, but instead of the blowout I expected, it is a very good game, and all this pute stuff is taking way too long because I am watching the game too much. LOL
Today is only getting four stars for food. I was over on calories for myfitnesspal, but not for TOPS, and, of course for Sunday, exercise gets zero. I am hoping to get on that exercise bike during the week! My breathing is much better than it was, let me tell you! I only had to suck on about 10 cough drops today. Yipes - I never thought. I probably should have been putting them on myfitnesspal. I'm sure they have calories. Oh, my. Bad, bad Rita.

A run-around Friday....beats Saturday, I guess
Friday, October 18, 2013
Today, I woke up right around 10. This seems to be getting to be a habit. I guess that's not a bad thing, is it? I laid there and read a bit, until quarter til 11 or so, then got up and started paying the bills for the week - I figured I had about an hour before I had to meet my sister and niece uptown, and should be able to mail them off when I went uptown. Well, Ruth texted me at 11:30 - "we are uptown" instead of the 11:45 I was expecting, so everything was in warp speed suddenly for me. I had to go get dressed, drive uptown, meet them, THEN drive to the funeral home for the meeting, instead of just meeting them AT the funeral home, but that was okay. I just didn't expect it. Ruth said they just didn't want to take the chance getting stuck behind farm machinery on the way over, and that is definitely a possibility this time of year on the roads between here and there - or there and here, as the case may be.
The meeting at the funeral home went well. Everything got situated for Monday - I was just glad they didn't try for Saturday, I am so used to thinking of the "3 day rule" funeral homes work with. I guess I can relax my mind a little on that score...maybe. We'll see, next time I have to deal with something of that nature. Just thinking about it makes me uptight.
After we leave there, they head for home, and I head on down the road. My agenda? Easy!
Here ya go:
Grocery shopping at WalMart
Oil Change at Valvoline
Lunch
Gasoline
Few items at Kroger
Rx at Walgreens
How's that for some running around?
Luckily, or UNluckily, I forgot to call in the Rx, so I can cross that one off the list. Yay. I get the others done, one by one, unfortunately doing the big shopping at WalMart first. I guess I was thinking I wanted to get the biggest job done first - but I should have saved that for last, since I bought perishables. Duh. Good thing I keep a hot/cold bag in the car! But, I got it all done eventually, going to Lee's Famous Recipe for my lunch after the oil change. I had the 3-piece strips lunch with wedges and green beans. A lot of carbs, but what with shopping, and it was AFTER 3, I thought it would work out okay.
Ron called me at about quarter til six - he was on his way home from work with Corgan, and he wanted me to meet him over in Felicity at FeedMill for supper. Well. O-Kay. Off I go again. Believe it or not, I am not really hungry, but I ordered me a cup of Vegetable Beef Soup for my supper. I dug out all (well, most) of the gigantic hunks of tomatoes out of it - I can't STAND those in foods! - and really enjoyed it. I did crunch up 6 crackers (3 of those little packs) into it, so there wasn't any juice.
Needless to say, I am plenty under my calories for the day. I am hoping for no sugar low tonight, but if I have one, I will not be surprised.
Today is getting 5 stars for food, and 4 for exercise.

A normal Thursday - I'll take it!
Thursday, October 17, 2013
I took NyQuill when I went to bed last night. A couple of decent swallows worth. I slept GREAT last night! I set my four alarms so I could get up and walk with Lois this morning. That was the plan, anyway, I was hoping this cold would let me. When I woke to a cold, rainy morning, I had my doubts.
I dressed warmly, though, and off I went. I did manage to walk the whole way, though I did not make it around in 33 minutes as we have been doing. We started at 10:03, and didn't get done until 10:38, so it took a few more minutes. Still not bad, considering I couldn't take a deep breathe, and had to stop whenever I had to take a drink of water (which was often). And, boy, oh, boy, did my lungs ache afterward. Most all day afterward. This is the first day that my lungs actually hurt.
For lunch, I was hungry, too, so I had my chicken salad, walnuts, and a banana while playing on the pute. I don't think I've done that all week. At 1, I put a pot of beans (15-bean soup mix) on for supper, so they could cook slow all day. I figured, if nothing else, just smelling them would make me feel warm. I would add the meat to them around 4, and we could eat around 6. Sounds like a plan!
I pretty much just sit and play on the pute all day. Chest (lungs) is hurting, breathing is not easy, but better than the last couple of days. Damn cold! Glad I only get 'em every three years or so now. Just gotta suffer through it. Should be over soon, I keep telling myself. Of course, I tell myself a lot of things...
At 4, I go to get the ham to put in the beans...I don't have any. WHAT? None, in either freezer. Well. Time to improvise. No meat except hamburger. Hmmm. I find what is left of a package of brats in the house freezer, so I chop those into 3 pieces each, and throw them in the pot. Better than nothing, right? So, supper goes pretty much as planned, just different meat in it. I enjoy a big bowl (yes, I said enjoy) of beans with 2 butter breads, and that's my food for the day.
I am under on calories for the day, and I really got some exercise today. I'll definitely take it!
Today will get five stars for both food and exercise.

A long sad day
Wednesday, October 16, 2013
Today started out quite well. First off, last night when I went to bed, instead of taking NyQuill (again), I put Vicks Vaporub all over my chest, under my nose, and up my nose, hoping that would help. Something different, you know. I slept all right, not great - only NyQuill does that - but okay. No carry-on dreams until the get-up-and-go-pee started around 2 or so. I ended up getting up right around 10 this morning, which is pretty darn good for me.
As I was playing on the pute, catching my games up, I got a text from my sister that "it is over." Oh, my. I had texted her when I got up and he was still doing okay! Geez. I am so sad to hear of his passing, but so glad that he is out of his pain and suffering. He has deserved his rest. After a couple of texts, I get dressed and head downtown to pick her up and take her home.
I grabbed a serving of walnuts and a banana to eat on the way for my lunch. I got her (and my niece), got them home in Winchester - which is a 46-mile trip down 32, then stopped at a c-store and comforted myself with a bag of Munchos and Reese's Cups to nosh on for the trip home. I was starting to droop.
So, another day with no exercise, and not the best eating, but I stayed under my calorie count for the day, even including the nut bar I'm going to eat when I go to bed.
Today will get four stars for food - I am under on calories, but it wasn't good for me food. Zero for exercise for one more day. I am hoping to get on that new bike tomorrow. At least for a few minutes.

A very rough day
Tuesday, October 15, 2013
Today was not a good day at all - until the very end.
It started with my alarms (4 of 'em) going off between 8:15 and 8:30 this morning. I had to get up because my youngest sister was coming to my house, then we were going to our oldest sister's (well, her oldest, my only older...lol) in Winchester, pick up some stuff for her, then downtown to Christ Hospital to deliver her stuff to her. Not a tremendous big deal, right. Just a big circle. Welllllllll, change of plans!
As we were driving up the road, Ruth called Jean's phone (she knew I was driving) and said "Bring the girls with you." I didn't even recognize Ruth's voice coming through Jean's phone - that's how stressed she sounded. I thought, for whatever reason, someone was passing along a message.
Now, "the girls" are, and have always been, Ruth's daughters. That's just how they are referred to in our family. But said this way, at this time, in this tone of voice, it meant "Rex's daughter's" which was not good. Not good at all. Remember, if you will (I hope I have mentioned) that Ruth has been down at the hospital with her husband since last week, and yesterday he had been sitting up (without the ventilator most of the day) and talking, breathing on his own and so forth. So, to hear this today, so early in the morning, was definitely not good at all. So, we stopped and picked the older one up, and the younger one was ready when we got to Ruth's house, along with the bag of the stuff we were picking up for her. On downtown we head...
After a couple of stops (for gasoline (3.27!) and me to pick up my Gatlinburg spending money), we finally got to Christ Hospital pretty much right before noon. And we were Just In Time. They were converging on Rex's room to take him off all machines - his body was rejecting it - and he refused a tracheotomy (can't say that I blame him!), there was also talk of moving him to a rehab/nursing home, then hospice but they were worried that he wouldn't survive the trip, so that ended up vetoed just before we all got there, and things were moving fast. So, boom boom boom, it was time. Just like that.
He still had the nasal canula, and they gave him morphine so he was not in pain. He WAS aware that the girls were there - he looked at them, and you could see in his eyes that he knew. I was happy to see that. I told the girls, and Ruth, that they needed to say goodbye. I know it seemed mean, but if they didn't, how would they feel later? So, they talked to him, told him to rest, and all that. I even patted his leg, and told him that he fought the good fight and to get the rest he deserves now. I can only hope it helps somehow. Jean and I sat back on the couch and stayed out of the way after that. We finally left around 3, because some of Rex's family was coming down, and we thought there should be room for them there in the room.
Besides, us diabetics needed to get some real food into us. All we had eaten thus far had been snack crackers. That's not very good for us, but that's all that was available to us. We were very lucky the chaplain arranged for us to have an "Angel Cart" brought to us - which had a carafe of coffee, one of hot water, a couple waters, packs of hot chocolate & tea bags, and about a dozen packs of snack crackers and cookies, along with spoons, stir stix, and napkins. How cool is that!
Jean and I stopped at IHOP and ate some breakfast for lunch (I know, it's 4 in the afternoon!) and it was DEEEEEElicious. Then, on home. When I got here, I texted Ruth - no change, Rex is hanging on. Wow.
I have a TOPS meeting tonight. I thought about not going, but finally decided to go. Off I go again. I let Ruth know I would keep my phone on just in case. Here is the good news of the day - I LOST 2.4 pounds! I was surprised - I didn't think I had done very well this week for some reason, especially not today. It was a good meeting. We talked about goals and visions for the future and stuff like that. I can certainly use information like that, cause I need motivation for the next 12 weeks of the Biggest Loser contest. I reached my goal this time - I got some extra spending money for Gatlinburg! I need something for the go-round that's gonna end in January. Haven't quite figured that one out yet.
After the meeting, I text Ruth again - still no change. Wow. I can't believe he is still hanging on. It is amazing what one's mind can do, isn't it? I come home and fry me 3 eggs for my supper. I have a little square cast iron skillet I cook these in. When they were done - I didn't quite hard-cook the yolks this time (yay!). I got 2 slices of bread out, tore each in half, used one to dunk into the yolks, then cut the 3-egg square into half, put one half on top of the other, and put them on one half of a bread, so had the sandwich with only one slice of bread, using a total of 1-1/2 slices. Yes, I had to waste 1/2 slice, but I'm okay with that. I also had walnuts with my sandwich. It was a darn tasty supper. Losing that 2-1/2 pounds inspired me - I was ready to come home and have a bowl of potato soup! Whew.
Today is only gonna get four stars for food. I don't know about the calorie count, I haven't done my myfitnesspal for the day. I will catch that up tomorrow. I am tired. I am going to bed.
Exercise is getting one, maybe two stars. We did a LOT of walking around the hospital. Maybe not as much as I'm "picturing" in my head, and I must remember that my hips never started hurting, but it sure was a lot. Maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile altogether.
That's it. Good night. Send prayers, good wishes, good karma, whatever. please to my sister Ruth and her family for comfort and peace, as they go through this hard, rough process.

A sick day. Blah.
Monday, October 14, 2013
Today has been pretty miserable. Throat is still sore (not viciously, thank God, just sore) and I am much more congested, way far up into my sinuses. Ugh. It has not been a fun day, just trying to breathe.
I got up around noon - and this after turning off the light around 11 last night. Oh, thank you, NyQuil. I am so glad I bought more and can take decent doses! I do have to get up in the morning, so am hitting the hay early tonight (it's only ten now) and hope to be up before Jean gets here in the morning. I figured that I needed hot food for my lunch today, so I made myself eggs for my lunch. I did cook them a bit too long - I was on the pute, and forgot I was cooking them, so I ended up with making them into a sandwich with my toast instead of being able to dunk with the toast. But, my own fault, so...
I tried to ride the exercise bike that Ron and Corgan got put together over the weekend. I didn't even last five minutes. With all this congestion, I just could not breathe. So....I'll try something again tomorrow. Today, it's more DayQuill and cough drops. My, my. wonderful time of year, right? LOL
Got a call from Josh at quarter after five - his battery is dead, can I come give him a jump, seeing that his dad isn't home yet? Ugh. Well, okay, but... Luckily, just as I'm getting ready to leave, I got a text from Ron saying he's on his way home. I text Josh & tell him I'm gonna wait for his dad to get here, and then we'd be on our way. He said okay, I wait for Ron. Ron gets home, I fill him in, he gets some things from the garage, we take off. He does what he does, and it takes less than 15 minutes...yay. Back home for us.
We got the ghosty-boos - the last of our Halloween decorations, unless we get some pumpkins and gourds - up in the trees in the front yard, and come in for the rest of the evening. Supper for me was chicken noodle soup, and I don't know what he had.
I was waaaaaaay under - like 700 under - my calories today, and myfitnesspal wasn't happy with me, but I can't help it. I was really surprised when I was hungry enough to want to have a bowl of cereal after supper. I did. I had a bowl of Cap'n Crunch Crunchberries. 3/4 cup of cereal with 1/2 cup milk. So there. A REAL serving/bowl of cereal!
Five stars today for food, and - no surprise - zero for exercise.

A good Sunday - though I feel bad
Sunday, October 13, 2013
Today, I woke up with a vicious sore throat. After being up a few minutes, a lot of congestion moved in, too. I figured it was just a whale of a cold. Since I started taking the Mucinex DM, I get one every 3 years or so. Phooey.
So, church, off to a good breakfast (bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes, and toast (2 @ x potatoes) and it was good!) Hey, I needed strength! Hurry-up trip home - with a stop to buy NyQuil - to watch football. Of course I missed kickoff....
Football. MY BENGALS WON. They did turn a sure win into a nail-biter. Idiots. They changed their game plan once they thought they had it in the bag, and almost blew it. They had to go to Overtime, which they usually lose, but they did it - after a couple of punts back and forth, they kicked a field goal and won. Yay! I felt really good on my picks (in our little pool) for this week. Usually I know I will suck, and it's meh. Whatever. But this week I felt really. good. about my picks. I only missed 6, and with this night game, looks like I'm gonna miss 7. Crap. Same ol', same ol' - why did this week seem different? LOL
Lived on DayQuil all day, taking NyQuil and going to bed now (HT on the night game...)
Today is getting five stars for food - I was WAY under on calories! Of course, no exercise. It's Sunday.
OH - I found out I will have spending money in Gatlinburg!! My share of the Biggest Loser money for inches? $96.66!! How about that? You sure you don't wanna join?? There's still time.....
LOL

Saturday, October 12, 2013
First of all, let me apologize to each and every one of you. I have not been ignoring you, and I have not - NOT - given up on recording my thoughts on my weight and exercise, as well as happenings in our lives. It has been a very, very hectic few days - I knew the weekend would be, but I did not expect Thursday to have such a maniacal ending. Let me start there, if I can remember back that far...
Thursday started out just fine. Typical normal day for me. I met Lois to walk - we made our mile-and-a-quarter walk in thirty-three minutes again! How about that! We keep this up, we just might have to seriously talk about doing this twice a week. But with winter coming on, I just don't know. We shall see. Then, the day continued on pretty much normally. Home, pute, etc. Then, right around noon, I got a text from my sister that my brother-in-law has been taken to the hospital (he has been quite ill for ~oh, 2, 3 years. He has emphysema, and has been losing weight steadily (now down to 77 #) all summer long) with low oxygen in his blood and can't catch his breath, or take a deep breath). I tell her to let me know, keep me updated, etc. and go on with my day. There's not a whole lot I can do from here. Finally, around 4, she tells me that he has pneumonia and will be admitted - this is at Adams County Regional Medical Center, which is essentially around the corner from them. They live in Winchester. OK, good, this is getting taken care of, she got him where he needed to be, and in time. (He doesn't always tell her how bad he feels, so sometimes it's not easy to get him help quickly.) One of her daughters is also at the hospital with her, so that is good, also. It is always good to have someone with you in times like this, right?
About 9 or so, I asked my other sister if she had heard from our oldest sister, because she had not answered any of my texts all day, and I was starting to get worried - I wasn't so worried the first time, she was prob busy with hospital stuff, but after that? Come on... She quickly said back that she had just texted her and she answered that she had not received a text from me all day. What? Well.
After some back-and-forth, we find out that she is now at the hospital by herself, and that Rex has crashed sometime in the interim. Great. We decide we best go, because she doesn't need to be by herself. We both take off from our respective houses, getting to the hospital about 10 after 10. IF we had been five minutes later, we would have known nothing. They were taking him OUT of his room and air-caring him to Christ Hospital downtown!! O M G - Needless to say, everything was kinda chaotic and hectic. My youngest sister decided she had best go home - she doesn't do downtown (she doesn't really do hospitals very well, anyway), and to mix both downtown and a hospital in the night would NOT be a good thing. So, I drove our oldest sister down to Christ - it took us a bit longer than it took the helicopter - LOL. I'm NOT that good! Damn, is 32 ever a long road at 11 at night...
Then, I stayed with Ruth until 2 am, when her daughter was finally coming down and she sent me home. Literally, she sent me home so I could be there before Ron left for work. I finally got home right at 3:30. Man.
Since I already had a full day scheduled for Friday, I only slept until 11 that morning. I had moved things back a couple of hours - I had planned my day to start at 9, then drive to Winchester & pick Ruth up, both of us go to the Appalachian Festival for 3 hours or so, then back home before 3. That WAS my plan. That part went the way of the dodo, however. I still went over to Batavia and did my final weigh-in for my Biggest Loser contest, since I already knew I couldn't meet with them Friday night or Saturday morning. I knew that I had lost 14 pounds this go-round, but hadn't written down my beginning inches, so had no idea about my totals. I thought I might have a chance to win the percentage part of it this time - but, whatever. I knew -14 wasn't quite enough weight loss for that category win. Just so I was at the top of the pile this time - not middle of the pack. I won't know until Monday, probably. Then, I went back home since I was NOT driving back up to Winchester. I stopped at a couple stores and got a bit of shopping done, and got me a chicken-strawberry salad at Longhorn's for my lunch, too. I didn't get back home until 4! They were waiting there for me with Corgan when I got there because I had asked them to bring him up right after school because of a wedding we were going to tonight. A SURPRISE wedding - the groom does not know he is getting married! This is gonna be good!
Luckily, Ron gets home from work in time to get his shower, changed, and we take off in good time to be ON TIME to get where we need to go. I am so glad. It is so hard to make plans that his job does not throw a monkey wrench in to.
The wedding. The SURPRISE wedding. Yes, it worked. The groom was totally surprised, and has totally happy. Ecstatic, even. He has been wanting to get married for probably 2 years, and she's been putting him off. There was little doubt that he would not be thrilled with this, and it was all good. The whole family waited up front - at the 'altar' when he walked in, his bestie helped him put his tux vest on, (she had a 'I wanna marry you' song playing...), and HE walked up the aisle to THEM with a huge smile on his face. It was very touching. It was great. Then, they continued with the ceremony, complete with a shadowbox that they filled with sand - starting with the two of them putting in white for a base, then the kids each put in a color, then they topped it off with white again to seal it all in. That was so neat! A very cool way to 'blend' their family! I don't know how, or where, she found out about that little observance, but it was something else. It was all very romantic. I, of course, took lots of pictures of every step along the way. I had decided to make them a photo book as a wedding gift - what do you get a couple that is already a couple?
This morning, I had to get up at 7:30, because I had a TOPS rally to go to. I was being picked up at 10 til 8 and had to pack me a lunch before then! No time to hit snooze and piddle around, that's for sure...
So, luckily, I know what I want to pack and have it ready in no time and am waiting at the door when my ride pulls in the driveway. Off I go for the day...
Sorry to say, I was NOT thrilled with the rally. It was okay, but not something I would not choose to do again. A very dry way to spend the day, not the exciting speeches and enthusiastic talks and all that I was led to believe was the backbone of these rallies. This was the same woman speaking all day, kinda telling the same story in different ways. All morning. The chairs we were sitting in were SO hard, even though they were padded. My back started aching by 10. We finally broke for lunch, and got an hour for lunch. Hoo-damn-ray! We still sat in the same hard chairs, but we were in a different place, and at a table, and doing something with our hands this time. It helped a lot, I think. It was still over way too soon. After lunch was much better than the morning, because they gave away door prizes and drew raffle winners and DID have motivational speakers. It was MUCH better! Still, was very glad when it was over.
Got home in time for Josh to come up and pick Corgan up to take him back home. Poor Corgan - he didn't have to deal with Granny this weekend. First off, he got to play with a lot of other kids at the wedding and reception, then had Grandpa all to himself all day long. Oh, my. I don't know how he stood it.
Then, Ron got the garage shut down, came in, showered, changed and off we went to a Couples Dinner up at church for Sweetest Day - which is technically next Saturday, but we were 'celebrating' it tonight. It had a Mexican theme - food, decor, etc. - and a guest speaker, who was very interesting. They had nachos and blue corn chips with salsa and pepperoni & cheese cubes for appetizers. They played a couple of games. For starters, they taped names to our backs, we could only ask questions to be answered Yes or No, then try to figure out who we were, then find our 'mate.' It was a fun kind of icebreaker. After eating our meal - we could choose 'Mexican' or 'Not' LOL Not 'American' or something, just 'not Mexican' - too funny! Then the speaker, then a newlywed game-type game. I'm glad they didn't pick us as one of the couples - we played along at the table, and we kinda sucked. There were door prizes, also - stuffed chihuahuas. lol We had so much fun!
But, back home, then pute and bed. I am so ready for that tonight. I'm a bit tired. Imagine that.

A normal day...with a twist ending
Wednesday, October 9, 2013
Today was a pretty darn normal day. I can live with those, that's for sure. I got up at 11:30, got on the pute, caught my games up, then ran uptown to run some errands (bank, post office, etc.) and decided to go to Frisch's for my lunch. Now, those of you who know us pretty well, know that we are sick to death of Frisch's and don't choose to go there if we can get out of it. But, for some reason, today vegetable soup just sounded good, and Frisch's does have the best around here. So, I splurged just a bit and had a Big Boy, fries (yes, I succumbed to the urge...), and a bowl of vegetable soup, along with a little thing of tartar sauce to dunk my fries in.
After I got back home, I played on the pute some more, then thought about doing some Wii training, but then thought - it's so beautiful outside today, I'll walk to the end of Hoover Road and meet Ron when he comes home from work. That's a mile walk, so it should work out okay. I also decided to walk instead of riding the bike. I thought it would be too hard to handle carrying a chair, a drink, and a book on the bicycle. OK, decision made. So, no Wii.
Ron texted me at 5:30 - "back in ohio." WHAT! He should be starting to head home! My, my. He has been over in Kentucky this week because another guy is on vacation. Well, needless to say, I back my plans off a little. I finally left the house at quarter after six, thinking that should be time enough. Boy, was I wrong! I walked all the way to the end of Hoover - which is Jones-Florer - and even out and down J-F a little (there's a curve right there, and I wanted to make sure he wasn't coming from further down the road). Of course, you can hear his truck from five miles away, or so it seems, but I thought - what the hell? - and I felt fine at that point, and I had made pretty good time. Then, I walked back onto Hoover, and back to the second phone pole, so Ron couldn't miss me, and set up my chair and got my book out.
At SEVEN, I texted him, asking "Where r u?" and he called me, saying he just left the garage. Just Left The Garage! Yeah, he had fuel up the truck, and do his paperwork (working 13+ hours does that to a trucker), and he still had to make a stop on the way home to pick something up to work on for a friend. Well. I figure if I wanna get back home before full dark, I'd best start back soon. I finished the chapter I was in, then packed everything up, and took off. Man, it wasn't long before my hips started letting me know they were NOT happy with me. By the time I got up around the curves, I was starting to wonder if I was gonna make it or not. One of the neighbors was putting his garbage out, so I had an excuse to stop for a couple minutes and talk to him - hey, whatever works, right? Ugh. My hips didn't thank me for the stop, and here I thought they'd appreciate it. It was getting darker and darker, fast, too. I hadn't gone much further, though, when I heard a familiar sound coming up behind me....oh, thank the good Lord! Yay! Luckily, Ron saw me in the dusk/dark and stopped and picked me up. And, of course, as he stopped, a truck pulled into this end of the road - just our luck, right, so I had to 'hurry up' and climb into the truck. Yeah, with gimpy hips and a chair and all. <rolls eyes> But I got in and that truck had pulled to HIS left, so we played London and waved at each other and went on past.
Aahhhh, home again.
I made fish (square fish!!) and tater tots for supper. We just didn't want frozen food tonight. Ron was tired, and wanted super hot real food, and that was okay with me - lunch seemed a lifetime ago. Believe it or not, I was under my calories for the day - for TOPS. I was over for myfitnesspal. I'm okay with that. I was pretty proud of myself for being able (even with the bitching) to walk the two miles!
Today gets five stars for both food and exercise!!

A not-bad-news Tuesday
Tuesday, October 8, 2013
Today was pretty much a normal weekday all day. No running, no big plans, no nothing. Just more housework and playing on the pute. Whoo-hoo. But I kept at it and got it all done - what I did, anyway. Y'all know that I am NOT much of a housekeeper. But all the dishes are now done, and all the laundry caught up. It's still in baskets, of course, and probably will be for a while...
I had woken up around 9, and let myself doze back off. Not really sleep, but just a doze. I woke for real around 10, but read a bit before getting out of bed. I then played on the pute, and got my lunch around 1. My chicken salad and walnuts, then a banana. I also put some chicken breasts (2 large, 1 normal-sized) into the crockpot with chicken broth, cream of mushroom soup, onion soup and ranch dressing packets at that time. It's gonna be good! I knew we weren't going to eat until after my TOPS meeting, so putting it on that late was going to work out just fine.
Between getting the dryer turned back on all the times needed to get the clothes dry now, I pretty much just stayed on the pute all afternoon - I had done the dishes this morning before getting on the pute, so now what housework I'm doing is caught up. Yay, me. I did get up and did my Wii training at 5 - I wanted to get it fitted in before going to my TOPS meeting, and I let the time get away from me a little. I usually like to do this around 2:30 - 3, not quite that late. I tried a NEW exercise today, too! Imagine that... I tried the Free Step. I do the Basic Step pretty regularly, so thought I would check this one out. Only thing is, you are supposed to do the Free Step for 10 minutes. 10 minutes! I can't do that! Not quite yet, anyway. I did manage to do it for 3 minutes and thought my heart was gonna pound right out of my chest, so I stopped. Then I went ahead and did the regular 'cycle' of training that I usually do. Balance things to warm up, then about 15 minutes of cycling, steps, etc., then balance again to cool down. I only burned off 84 calories because I only did 15 minutes of 'real' exercise, but my heart wasn't cooperating. It kept beating too fast too quickly, and I would get worried and back off. But I figured what I did was better than nothing.
Then off to my meeting - and I did have a loss for this week! .2, but hey - it's a loss! I'll take it! At least she didn't have to write in the dreaded red pen (which means I gained). According to my Wii, when I did my training, I weighed 246.0. When I got to TOPS, their scale said 252.8 - that's how different the scales are. (and this is only a difference of 2 hours!) I like MY scale much better, thank you very much.
When I got home, I made a box of Rice-A-Roni (Chicken and Garlic) and green beans for the rest of supper, and we ate supper at about twenty til/quarter til nine. I sure wish Ron would make Rice-A-Roni, but he won't. He makes mac&cheese, he makes potatoes, he makes all other kinds of sides, but not this. Strange. A serving of Rice-A-Roni is one cup, and that's all I was going to have, but when I took my plate back out to the kitchen, there was still some left in the skillet. So, after asking Ron why didn't he eat all the rice and he didn't want it - I couldn't let it go to waste, could I? And I finished it off. I had also chopped up some tomatoes to go as a side, too. Then, I ate a banana for my dessert.
When I put all this on myfitnesspal, I was under on the calories for the day - by almost 200! SCORE!! I am very happy with that!
Today gets five stars for food, and four for exercise.
**And, in case y'all didn't notice, I have lost 12 pounds since I started writing these blogs - to be more specific, 12 since I quit weighing myself (and telling my weight) every day. I may have made a good decision that day!**

Getting stuff done...
Monday, October 7, 2013
Today, I managed to get some stuff done here around the house that I had been putting off. I slept until noon, which I didn't do last week (the only-six-hour-sleep-nights, remember?) and to sleep that long was much more normal. I am still having a headache, though, and this is starting to not feel good. I was just telling my friends last TH the med I am taking for headache control is working very well, and *bam* the next day, a whopper of a headache started and has not stopped. Instead of being just a 2 on the pain scale, this one is a 5 at the very least, and up to an 8 at worst. NOT a good thing at all. But, I got things accomplished today, and I was a bit proud of myself. True, it's just 'normal' household stuff - laundry, dishes, etc. - but I let it all go last week, so it wasn't as easy as it sounds. It had built up a bit. I also had run down to WalMart and get the weekly shopping done that we just couldn't fit in over the weekend, too. This called for a lot to do in a few hours. Add in play on the pute, and the day is shot! LOL
I just kept going and going and didn't even think about lunch. I got back from shopping - about quarter til 5 - and thought 'Hmmm...I feel kinda hungry. Did I eat lunch? No, I didn't!' I sure am glad I didn't have a sugar low while I was out! I do carrry a nut bar in my purse, but still. I just don't LIKE having them. So, I ate a Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie. Hey, it was almost suppertime! We were going to have the rest of the chili from last night, so after getting the groceries put away, I turned it on low, so it would be nice and warm by the time Ron got home. Then I got back on the pute and played for a bit, until Ron got home. After he got home, we got the rest of our Halloween decor set up outside (he needed to dig up extension cords and plugs so we could finish). Then, it was strictly pute time while eating supper and watching TV.
Today gets five stars for food. I only had supper and some snacks (once I started 'snacking,' it seemed like I didn't stop...I also had a banana, then 10 Better Cheddar crackers, then around 10:45 pm, 10 more Better Cheddar crackers. I'll be glad when that box is empty!) A serving of Better Cheddars is 20 crackers, so having 2 different 10s is not bad. I was 500 calories under when I put it all on myfitnesspal. I'm okay with that.
Exercise is gonna get three stars. I did get a WalMart walk in, and I made sure I walked the whole store.

Football Sunday!!
Sunday, October 6, 2013
Today was a pretty normal Sunday. Church, football. That's it. Football is still on, but it is boring, so I am on the pute filling in time and listening to TV with one ear.
I called DirecTV on FR about my Sunday Ticket not working correctly and they were gonna send me a new receiver box. Okay, fine. No biggie. We got ours in 2004, and technology has changed a bit since then. They sent it OVERNIGHT and we got it yesterday! How cool is that? We hooked it up before leaving for the evening, but, of course, can't check out Sunday Ticket until today. And it worked! It all worked! I was so tickled. (I know, I'm too easy...) Also, when we got in the box to get the receiver & all the bits and pieces out, there was a phone cord in there. After getting the box all plugged in and trying to 'fix' the remote, it wasn't working, so I had to call them. sigh She walked me through that - they had to activate it. While I had them on the phone, I asked her about getting incoming calls to show up on the TV. She asked if a phone cord came in the package, and I told her yes. She said plug it in to the DirecTV box, then to the landline. BOOM. It works, too!!! That is super wicked!! (Yeah, I know, I'm easy...) LOL
Anyway, today, MY Bengals whupped up on Tom Brady and the Patriots. The Patriots did NOT score until less than 2 minutes to go in the first half, and then just a Field Goal, not a Touchdown. How bout that? Mr. Never-loses failed. hahahahahahahahahahaha I loved it. We held them the whole second half, too. They only got one more Field Goal the whole game. We beat them 13-6. They tried to come back, but the heavens opened (omg - JUST what the PATRIOTS needed - ask the announcers) and poured down the rain for about 20 minutes. Just long enough to screw up most of the 4th quarter. It was thrilling.
We had gone to Bob Evans today for lunch, and I had the Sunshine Skillet for my choice, with, of course, two slices of banana nut bread. They brought me biscuits erroneously, and I gave them to Ron to go with his breakfast. Wellllllll, at the end, he left one, and I was bad, and busted it open, spread ORANGE MARMALADE on just the top half, and enjoyed that, too. It's hard to find OM in those little jelly packets, and that was a real treat.
For supper, at 7, we decided to make chili for supper. At 7!! We are dorks! It was finally done just before 8, and we each had a bowl, then turned it off, so we'll probably have that again tomorrow night, too. Good things chili tastes even better the second night!
When I put my food in myfitnesspal, I was under on calories for the day (and I admit, I didn't put in the half biscuit and the jelly - I can't find the jelly packets on there), but was under enough that even if I added them, I would still be under! I am okay with that. So today is getting 5 stars for food. Zero, of course, for exercise - it's Sunday!

A pleasant weekend day - except for the killer headache!
Saturday, October 5, 2013
Today ended up being a really good day, most especially for a Saturday. Most Saturdays are run-around-like-chickens-without-heads kind of days, trying to do all the things that we don't get to do during the week. Today, we didn't, which is a very pleasant different day to start with, and not even having to THINK about do we still have to do this? is a very pleasant difference, too, because we had nothing on our plates for the day. Well, I did, but WE didn't, and that made all the difference - are you confused yet? LOL
Ron and the boys (remember, Corgan's friend is spending the night with him) stayed home getting the house all dolled up for fall and Halloween all day long, until we went out for supper. I, on the other hand, went up to church to help get the rummage sale closed. We (the Altar Society) did very well. I know that yesterday, we had done over $500., so.....should be a very good total. I got to 'harvest' a few more items while closing it down, and did NOT overdo it. Then back home, a can of chicken salad and a couple of cookies I 'harvested' from unsold bake sale items. FYI - I did 'donate' a ten dollar bill for all my 'harvested' items.
OH - this morning, when I did my Wii for my weigh-in for this week? I LOST 3 pounds! Yay, me! Here's hoping it holds til my TOPS meeting on Tuesday!! Please, please, please. We should have our finals next weekend. I am going to have to do a workout every day this week...I want to have a decent result this time around SOOOO bad...tired of ending up way in the middle of the pack. I don't care where, but top five or six, please.
Then, we left to go to supper. Chelle had decided to let Corgan go to ChuckECheese for his big birthday celebration this year. He turned 9, and this will be the last year he'll enjoy something like that. He's getting so big. So, to C-E-C we went first, so the 'kids' could play for a while. Corgan liked his bike, but didn't understand the pictures. He thought they were pictures of a bike his Grandpa had when Gpa was a boy. Oh, man. Finally, Josh (his dad) said, "Corgan, they got you a bike for your birthday. That's your bike. It was too big to bring here." THEN he got it. He sure was tickled to death over the Wii games he got from them (both J & M and Jean), though!! He wanted to open them!! Like he could play them while sitting in C-E-C! Too funny! His friend Justin (and family) gave him 10 bucks.
After the kids had spent all their tokens, we left C-E-C and went to Golden Corral to get some REAL supper for a decent amount of money. I got my usual plate of cold salad foods and went back for a plate of hot foods. Ron got worried - where did I go? They told him for more food (I do this every. time. we. go. there.) He said 'her plate is gonna get cold.' Awwwww - he was worried about me. They just laughed at him cause it was a plate of salad stuff, and was already cold! It was kinda funny. I like getting both plates first, then I can just sit and eat and not get back up. I even get butter for the whole table in a soup bowl, for potatoes and corn and whatever. I don't get up again until I absolutely have to!
SPOILER: GROSS SUBJECT AHEAD! As we were sitting there eating, someone going into the bathroom puked all over the hallway. EEEEWWWWWW. Luckily (or not), Ron saw it happen, and we notified the waitress & she immediately stopped what she was doing & went off and did ~whatever~ to take care of it. I'm so glad I didn't have to go that way any more tonight.
So, all in all, it was a very, very nice (as I said, pleasant) day - a great change from our usual Saturdays. We'll take it!
Today gets only three stars for food. Bake sale remnants and a buffet supper. Yeah. Even though I'm not eating nowhere near as much as I used to, it's still waay too much. (Notice only two As, not six. lol)
Exercise, for a Saturday, gets zero. No walking around stores and/or parking lots. No biking with Corgan (he had Justin - we only have 3 bikes). No time for walks. Ugh.

A relaxing Friday
Friday, October 4, 2013
Today was a kind of strange day. Although it was a bit stressful at first - I started out the day paying bills, which is NOT fun at this point - knowing what was ahead made it so much nicer, if not easier. I had F U N plans for most of today!
After getting this bit of 'business' out of the way, I went and got some errands out of the way, stopped at Wendy's up in Bethel and got me a double cheeseburger (tomato & onions only) and a chili for my lunch, then went up to work at the rummage & bake sale until it closed at 4. Jean and Chelle brought Corgan (and his friend Justin, who is spending the night with him) up to me after school let out. So the boys played while we got the rummage sale closed down, then we walked up to my friend's house to go to her "Chili Feast" and watch the Homecoming Parade. I had brought our drinks (water, of course) for the night in the little carry-cooler and off we went. It only took us 15 minutes or so to walk up to her house, and we just kinda stayed out of their way as they got all the last-minute stuff done. Other people started showing up, and the boys finally had other kids to play with, and the night turned into a wonderful time. Good food, good friends, good times!!
I put 2 hot dogs on a plate and cut them into pieces, then put chili all over them, sprinkled some onions in/on it, then cheese over it all. That was my supper. A little later, someone brought me a piece of apple pie, and somewhere along in there I had a jello shot and I tried (about an inch in a cup) a bit of sangria. It was such a relaxing evening!
Food today gets five stars - I'm not sure about the calorie count, since it was homemade chili, but it sure was good!
Exercise is gonna get three stars - I did walk a bit doing errands, then walked to Vickie's from the church, probably 1/2 to 3/4 mile, as well as all the mingling and socializing, although I tried to stay sitting at a table. You know you can't always. LOL

A great day with friends!
Thursday, October 3, 2013
Today is my grandson's 9th birthday! Happy birthday, Corgan Wayne O'Toole!
One day, you will realize just how worried and exhausted and happy we all were when you were finally born, 2 months early but healthy, after your mom had been in the hospital for a couple of weeks doing everything possible to give you the best possible chance at a good start in life. You were supposed to be a Thanksgiving baby, but you ended up being a squeak-by-Granny's-birthday baby and we just weren't ready for that. But, evidently, YOU were, and here you came, and, nine years later, here you are and we couldn't be more proud of you than we are. Love you, little buddy.
I got up this morning, thanks to my alarm clock and all 3 alarms set on my cell phone, and got uptown to walk with Lois. It was kind of a dull dreary day, ready to burst rain on us at any given moment, but we got our walk done in LESS than half an hour and didn't get one single drop on us. Yay, us. Then, I went home, got a few things done rather quickly and left again at 11:15 - and had to turn around because I left my tea sitting on the counter, so I got "gone" at 11:30, which was my original plan. Pppfffffftttt. But now I'm right on schedule, which means I'm running late. LOL
I drop my stuff (Oreo balls) off up at church for the rummage & bake sale, go to IGA for bread, lunch meat and cheese - where I also pick up some turnips, Better Cheddar crackers, and a small pepperoni & cheese tray, because I am picking up my friend Bert (her name is Roberta, but she has always been Bert. It took me YEARS to figure out why people named Roberta were nicknamed Bobbi....I'm a little slow) and then we went over our friend Teresa's. The three of us grew up together - same school, same church, same, same, same - all our lives. All big Catholic families, not counting parents (mine is 8, 4@ Bert's 6, 3 @ and Tee's 9 - 2b, 7g), and we all commiserate together very well. Unfortunately, I'm the only Catholic one of us now, but that's their choice and I can live with that. We only get to do this every 3 or 4 months, what with each of us being busy with our own lives and it's so wonderful when it happens. We all enjoy it very much!
Bert also brought some last-of-the-season tomatoes already sliced up, deviled eggs, green, orange, & red peppers all cut up into slices in a bowl, and bread & butter pickles. I brought dill pickles and a box each of the two kinds of nut bars that I have. So we had 'lunch' spread all over the table all day and just picked and nibbled and ate too much. Tee has lost 118 pounds now and looks fabulous! She has found herself a dress to wear to her niece's wedding - but it's not until December 28th, so she will probably shrink out of it before then. I am so proud of her. She has come so far in this past year. She is definitely ready to zipline when we go to Gatlinburg in November! More power to her there....I will be watching and taking pictures.
I got home around 8:30, finished the Oreo balls to take tomorrow night to the Chili Feast, wrapped Corgan's birthday gift, then ate the lunchmeat I brought home with me for my supper. I dread seeing my totals when I get this all on myfitnesspal tomorrow. I'm hoping it won't be too bad, since most of it was veggies, but still.....
Today gets four stars for food - I did stick to more of the veggies than anything. A serving of Better Cheddars was 20 crackers. I ate 10 there (yes, I counted them out) and 10 with my supper. I had 2 deviled eggs. I can claim a "stack" (meat, cheese, cracker) from a snack tray for the pepperoni & cheese - I've done that in the past (even though I didn't have the cracker - it will 'catch' anything I may NOT be able to put on there, like an oreo ball or a drop of chocolate while making the oreo balls, right?) or I can just claim the extra carbs and be done with it. I already know the day is shot to hell! LOL
Guess how many stars exercise gets? Actually, it gets at least three cause I walked my mile+ this morning with Lois! LOL Just the rest of the day was a lazy day...

First of a few busy days
Wednesday, October 2, 2013
Today was a strange day from the get-go. I only slept for about 6 hours again. I've done that for 2 days in a row now. That's a little weird. I like the good-sleep part, and the not-getting-up-to-pee part, but not the only sleeping 6 hours part. Just plain ol' doesn't feel right. So......I got up around 9 this morning, and read a bit, then got up and baked some individual apple pies and made the rest of the Oreo balls for the bake sale on Friday. I still have to dunk the Oreo balls in chocolate, but that's okay. I'll get it done. When I got done with those, I got me some lunch (a can of chicken salad and walnuts) and got on the pute and got my games all caught up.
Then, because I had a meeting tonight, I got my new treasurer's box for the Altar Society at church all organized - I hadn't even touched it since I bought it, and oh, my. Big mistake, leaving it all sit til the last minute. I also had to make a couple of phone calls to get figures to be able to write up my treasurer's report (the checkbook was a total mess when I got it in September), but after much stress and a sugar low, I did get it done, and the report written and printed for tonight. Whew.
At the meeting, I had a few pepperoni slices and some cheese (little appetizer slices). I have no idea what kind of cheese it was - just that it was NOT Swiss. Maybe, overall, 6 or 8 slices of each. I also had 2 slices of a lemon pound cake. Then, after I got home, well, CSI was on, so after 10, I had a bowl/can of chicken noodle soup. Whoo-hoo. Big supper for me!
Tomorrow, I walk with Lois in the morning - the cell phone charger is now in the bedroom and my cell phone alarm is set, as well as the alarm clock, and Ron is going to call me also. I WILL get up this week! No re-play of last week, please. Then, my friend Bert and I are going over to our friend Teresa's to spend the day visiting, just the three of us. It's gonna be fun!
So, I am giving today only four stars for food and, once again, zero for exercise.

A mostly normal day
Tuesday, October 1, 2013
Today was pretty much a normal day for a Tuesday. Whew. I didn't go to bed last night until late, staying up playing on the pute and then catching up my food for the weekend on myfitnesspal.com and my blog here for you guys (I sure hope you weren't too bored!). The comments I got were referring to my age, or to my comments referring to my age, so I couldn't really tell. Then, when I got to bed, 2ish, I couldn't sleep, so didn't even turn off my light until 4! Yes, Ron't alarm was already going off. I made myself turn the light off, and - luckily - I was asleep by the time he left. I heard and felt him get up, but not leaving.
Believe it or not, I woke up this morning BEFORE 10. TEN!! I couldn't believe it, so I laid in bed and read until noon. I saw no reason to get up quite that 'early.' I did sleep good, and deep, and only got up once to pee, around 8. I was kinda proud of myself. You'd think I'd be sandpaper-eyed by now (11 pm) but I'm not.
My pute would not work when I got up. Josh got me a Cincinnati Bengals wireless keyboard for my birthday, and we tried to install it yesterday. It never did come on. We plugged my old keyboard back in, and that's what I used last night. When I went to bed last night, I unplugged the old one, so perhaps the new one could kick in overnight (it might have worked if I had left the pute on...maybe) but I turned the pute off, as usual. When I tried the new one this morning, it didn't work, so I tried plugging the old one back in, but it didn't work either. Great! I had to go up to the library to get on the pute (maybe I SHOULD have gotten up a bit earlier...) and Josh is gonna stop after work and see if he can figure something out.
I'm up at the library, on the pute, getting my games all caught up, which is definitely not part of a normal day. I stop at the store, and realize that I haven't eaten lunch yet! I get done there and go to the car wash - I also got Bengals stickers for my car as birthday gifts - as I wanted to get my new stuff on the car. I get home, eat a can of my favorite chicken salad and piddle around waiting for Josh to get there, which wasn't all that long. When he got here, he got to work here at the pute and I went into the kitchen and made Oreo balls for the bake sale at the church rummage sale this weekend. Kept me busy and out of his hair, I figured, so why not? I wasn't going to do them until Thursday, but it won't hurt to do them now.
Then I left to go to my TOPS meeting. When I weighed in, I had LOST almost 3 pounds! THREE!! 2.8 to be exact, but it was enough to be 'loser of the week' and I was surprised at that, too. <<happy happy dance>> I couldn't believe it! I guess I DID do pretty darn good over the weekend.
Josh texted me right around 7 saying he was giving up for now and would try to figure something out about the new keyboard later. Bummer! Oh, well, at least he got the old one working, so I could play on my own pute tonight. When I got home, I made me some supper - I fried two eggs, and ate some tomatoes that I had chopped up, cutting off the bad spots. Ron had taken some to go with his supper, and I ate the rest. That was it. Eggs and tomatoes. I did eat a serving of a Special Dark bar (a giant one) left over from the weekend after my 'lunch' and I'm going to eat one (a serving) when I go to bed. Believe me when I tell you - I am WAY under on my calories today.
Today gets five stars for food, and zero for exercise. Between going uptown and Josh being here, it just didn't happen.

Monday, September 30, 2013
Well, my good people, I AM BACK, as I am sure you noticed by the title. All rested and rejuvenated from our little runaway weekend, which was the whole idea behind it. We probably really shouldn't have spent the money, but sometimes you gotta take of yourselves first.
I am not sure what happened to Thursday night - I sure should have written a blog on then. I stayed up and watched the football game, or at least most of it. Although, what with leaving 'in the morning' - early in the morning, I may have just forgotten. Duh.
Anyway, I gave some people a scare Thursday morning. I am supposed to get up and walk with Lois, as you know, and then go do whatever is on the agenda. Well, for whatever reason, my alarm clock decided not to work, and I overslept. Lois called - and I don't answer the house phone in the mornings, not at this time in our lives, and I don't take my cell in the bedroom (the battery runs down in there faster) - and called and called. She walked without me, and was still worried, and drove out here and pounded on the door and I never answered. (We have a fan running in the bedroom.) She walked around the house, looked in the kitchen window(s) to see if I was lying there in a coma or something. Nothing. She contemplated calling 9-1-1, but finally decided to go home, look Josh up on the computer (through me, on Facebook) and talk to him and figure something out, which she did. So now Josh is calling both phones, too. Then he called his dad. Now, Ron is calling both phones, too. Finally, around 11, I wake up. I sat up, started taking my pills, then saw the books I was going to give to Lois today, and OH SHIT was in my mind and my cell phone rang. I practically ran out to my desk to grab it and I vaguely wonder why Josh is calling me and answer. Well, I soon find out why. O ... M ... G !!! While I am talking to Josh, the house phone rings again, I look at it (in the living room - it has a screen) and it is Ron. So I tell Josh 'Hold On' and talk to Ron, too, only for a minute, cause Josh is waiting. So I've got them both calmed down, and I go finish taking my pills, then call Lois and explain and apologize to her, and let her read me the riot act, which I richly deserved.
I'm still feeling about a foot tall. I have not been able to find out what the hell happened to that clock, though. The red dot was on. The alarm was set to am, not pm. I just don't know - it's possessed, I guess.
I don't remember much else about Thursday now. I know I went down the road as I had planned, just much later. I had lunch at Olive Garden since I was down that far for a change. I didn't get to make the apple pies I had planned to make since I got started so late. I sent the ingredients and makings home with Josh so they could make them while we were gone. That's about it.
Friday. Ah, Friday!! We hit the road at 6:30 am. Here is our agenda:
Leave.
Drive North.
Go to Marblehead, visit the lighthouse.
Go back to Bellevue, find a hotel.
Go find some supper.
And that's exactly how it worked out. It was wonderful! We stopped in Wilmington at a Bob Evans for breakfast after traveling for about an hour, then got so involved in the trip, we forgot to stop for lunch! Didn't even think about it! The weather was gorgeous, and we enjoyed seeing the lighthouse and Lake Erie again. The water was a LOT choppier than we've ever seen it! Whitecaps, foamy, very rough. But there were boats out and it was as pictureesque as always. I couldn't believe how many flowers around the place were still in bloom! So very colorful, not the blackened, deadish-looking things we have now. Then we went back to Bellevue, got our hotel (only 60 bucks a night!), and after a bit, found a little diner type place called Track's End back out on Route 269 North to go to for supper. We liked it so much, we went back for breakfast!
Saturday. The main day, the main event, of our weekend. The what-our-souls-need part. The Big Attraction. Here's our agenda for Saturday:
Breakfast (yes, even for me. Today is a walk-walk-walk day.)
Go to the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue. (they have a cafeteria for lunch)
If time, go somewhere else. (towns, shops, whatever)
Back to hotel and supper.
That was it for today. Just the shrine. We thought it would take pretty much all day. The brochures we had said it was, I believe, 200+ acres. The shrine is absolutely wonderful. Just to walk through those woods (you get a map in the gift shop) and stop and get your eyes (and soul) full at each shrine, statue, or grotto to Joseph, Mary and Jesus, separately and together, as well as other saints and religious people, is just so peaceful, I guess. Fulfilling, maybe, is another good word. I really can't put it into words very well. I took pictures, not even of every 'place' and I took way too many, and I'm sure they don't even begin to show the ambiance of the place. So many flowers, too. Still so beautiful, so colorful. Very few mums are out yet - these are all still summer flowers. Petunias, roses, hydrangeas, black-eyed susans, things like that. Either before or after the walk in the woods, you can visit the Pilgrim Center, the Gift Shop (luckily, we went there first, and that's where we got our map.), and the two chapels. One, the Pieta Chapel),is all open. It's where they have outdoor Masses. We managed to be there the weekend of the LAST outdoor Mass. How lucky for us!
We got done walking through everything about 2 - 2:30, so we decided to drive to the nearby town of Bucyrus, since we had pretty much driven through Bellevue the day before, looking for restaurants for supper. We drove there and visited a country store, like the one in Mt. Orab on 68 down by the railroad tracks. Country themed and homemade (local) items, probably like the Feed Mill here in Bethel but I don't go in there so couldn't really say. Then we visited a sausage restaurant/store that we thought was also the factory where they made the sausage, but we were wrong about that, it was just a store to sell the local sausage, with a few (15 or so) tables in the front to sit and have a sandwich or a meal. They would be very much at home in Holmes County! Although I doubt they are Amish, but that's what the place reminded me of, small stores there. While we were there, walking through the store, smelling the brats and sausages and stuff, we realized that we didn't eat lunch at the shrine. What time is it? It's after 3! We decide to just eat a sandwich, enough to tide us over til suppertime, then we'll find a new restaurant for supper. We don't want to go back to that same one again. I didn't like the bratwurst I tried - it was spicier than I like my brats, I like just plain ol' white brats - but Ron really liked the sausage. We didn't buy any, though. We didn't want to chance them thawing on the trip home. After leaving there, we found a little antique shop to walk through. I am always on the lookout for my little cartoon character glasses. You know, the ones with Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, those cartoon characters. Not the Disney ones. I have paid (and I should be ashamed to admit this) $20. for one in the past. But they are hard to find, and if you find one, you gotta have it!
We did find us a different restaurant in Bellevue for supper. It was called JP's Family Restaurant on Castalia Road. Since I wasn't really all that hungry, I ordered the chicken fingers dinner (only one side) off the SENIOR menu.
Sunday. Big plans for Sunday: Mass (chuch) at the Shrine, drive home. Whoo-hoo.
This is my first planned Sunday for missing football. Starting withdrawal already (lol).
We got up, got everything packed up, and left the hotel around 8. Went to breakfast at JP's (if you haven't noticed, we are loyal to the places we like) and I thought I had been up long enough to try to eat some real food. I had a real breakfast - meat, eggs, and toast (NO potatoes! No walking today, lots of sitting). Ugh. Bad choice. My stomach wasn't ready. I guess at least this time it was rolling around instead of the food sitting there like a rock. But, what can ya do?
We went to the Shrine for Mass, as planned. It was a beautiful experience. The cool wind blowing through the open building (it did have a roof), being able to see and hear the birds, squirrels, etc., while still seeing and hearing the ongoing Mass was something else. Smelling the flowers, too, on the wind, although I'm sure not everyone (like Ron) wouldn't get that. Then we hit the road. Josh sent me updates on football. Thank God for cell phones with texts! We stopped for lunch in Grove City at Cracker Barrel, once we hit the interstate. Josh had asked if we wanted to come there for supper (and 'do' my birthday) and, since we were making good time, we decided that sounded like a good plan. We told him OK, I answered his choices for my birthday supper, and on we went. Rolling, rolling, rolling....
We got down to Josh's 6ish and enjoyed the rest of the evening there. I'll talk more about all that later.
It was not a bad day for the day I turned the speed limit.
It was a fantastic weekend. It was just what we needed. We feel ready to get back to our real world now.
Monday. Our real world.
Today, it was back to normal.
I had to get my license plates renewed (as you do on your birthday in Ohio) and I had not wanted to spend the money before our weekend away, so I procrastinated. I also decided to go to Georgetown to get done instead of Batavia because I thought it would be a lot faster there. I was right! I was in and out of there in about 15 minutes. Hoo-ray! Then I stopped for lunch at Country Inn and decided on the BLT double decker and steak fries. Not good FOR me, but I figured I was good all weekend and I deserve a birthday treat somewhere. Hey, worked for me.
Then, back home where I checked the messages from the weekend and this morning. Yay, the lady from CSB - where we went to try for the re-fi - called. So, I call her back. She's in a meeting. She'll call me back. She calls back. "Sorry, we can't help you. You have too many things that are late right now." Well, why do think we need some money? Duh. OK, we'll have to come up with another plan. We have fresh brains right now, don't we?
Ron gets home, we go for our little bike ride, so I get some exercise in today. He has a bowl/can of broccoli cheese soup and finishes off the Better Cheddar crackers from the trip for supper. I have a bowl/can of Chicken Noodle Soup with some walnuts.
I watch football. I have a chance in our pool. Both teams are 3-0, so I said low points tonight, thinking defense. I know I am OUT by halftime. Phooey. I usually say 58 points - that's the year I was born - but NO, not this week, I went with my birthdate 29. Guess how many points at the end? 55. Shows me, huh?
Today gets four stars for food and exercise!!
The WEEKEND gets five stars for happening!!!
