Rainy, rainy day

Thursday, March 26, 2015

I knew from the moment I woke up this morning that the weather had changed - and not for the better.  It really took an effort to just get up and go to the bathroom before lying in bed and tableting and reading before really making the effort to actually get up.

Once I got up and got moving, though, I felt - not better - but as though I could do this.  I put a load of towels in the washer, and I did up the dishes that were sitting there.  I also scrubbed down the one counter and the bottom of the appliances from that counter - a turnip (still in the package - long story, don't ask) had gone bad and leaked smelly (stinky! awful! terrible! rank!) liquid and the stink was hanging around, even though we had cleaned up the mess.  Oh, it was bad.  The only thing I could figure was that it had leached under the appliances and that's why it wasn't going away, so I moved everything and made a baking soda and vinegar paste and cleaned the underneath of each appliance and item on the counter, as well as the counter itself (once again), then rinsed it with the dishwater.  Oh, my, what a job that was!
After that, I just collapsed into my recliner for a little while.  Okay, okay!  A long while!

After Ron got home from work, I got to go down the road.  I chose to do this today, so that I will be able to do the making and baking I need to tomorrow without feeling rushed.
I stopped at the bank and did that, then went on down to WalMart and did my grocery shopping.  I stopped at IGA on the way home, mostly because we needed ice, and if I had to stop for ice, I might as well pick up some 5/$20. meat.  So I did.
I got home, and Ron came out and helped me carry in the groceries.  We got the fridge and freezer stuff put away, and the rest is still sitting there.

He had peeled potatoes while I was gone, and I sliced them up and put them on for our supper, adding the snausages (cocktail weenies/lil smokies), onions, and corn about a half hour later.  So, supper was a little late - we ate just after 8, but oh, man, it was good!  We both enjoyed it very much.

We watched Bones while eating supper, then dead guys.  He went to bed, and here I am.  I am going to go to bed early, too, because I have a lot to do tomorrow, so I'm hoping that I go to sleep tonight.  I've already taken my dose of sleeping pills, so we'll see.

Tomorrow, I'm making a pineapple upside-down cake and some peanut butter bark to take to our friends' house when we go there for supper.  Salmon, tuna casserole, cole slaw, other sides I'm sure, and I am bringing dessert.  Although the bark is more of a snack while we are playing dominoes...

A wonderful day out!

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Yay!  My day to see about new glasses is here!  I'm hoping to come home with new glasses today, from one of those 1-hour cheapo places, but with my prescription being trifocal and preferably no-line, we'll have to see.  But I'm looking forward to it, mostly because it should also be a Bert, Teresa, and Rita Day, too!

But, alas, when I wake up, I already have a message from Teresa that she's not going to be able to make it - I didn't get the message because I had forgotten to take the phone off 'vibrate' when I went to bed last night - and, well, that's a bummer right off the bat.  But I know Bert's going, because I'm picking her up, so the day won't be a all-by-myself trip.  At 11:30, I picked up my cell phone to call Bert and remind her that I'm leaving at noon.  I dialed her number, and my phone said, "Call from Bert."  How weird was that?!  Great minds think alike, they say, and in this case, it was true - Bert was calling me to make sure I was leaving at noon as was arranged, and to see if it was okay to make some extra stops.  Assuring her that I was, we hung up, then I got up, got dressed, checked the bank balance on the pute, and then left, just a couple of minutes late.

I picked Bert up and we went on over to Eastgate.  Our first stop was dropping the coupons (Bert and her mom collect coupons, expired and still good, for the military) off at the military center over by Meijer.  Our second stop was at Eyemart for my glasses.  This is over on the other side of Meijer, over by Penn Station and Aspen Dental, just before Longhorn.  I walked around, looking at the frames until it was my turn, even though I was kinda hoping to just keep these and not spend the money necessary for new frames.  When I got to ask them, though, I found out that they don't do the no-line bi- or tri-focals.  So -- phooey.  Another bummer!  I guess I'm gonna have to go to WalMart, since I know for a fact that WalMart accepts our insurance, or vice versa.  I didn't want to, since I know what the prices are there.  But...

Since we were right there, Bert and I decide to go to Longhorn for our lunch.  We thought about Golden Corral, but since we had just gone there on Saturday, neither of us really wanted to go there again so soon.  So, Longhorn it was.  I had my almost-perfect salad, and she had a burger with a salad.  We also had appetizers - the corn fritters and stuffed mushrooms, and, man, were they good!
We stayed there, just chillin' and talkin' and enjoying our time together until after 4.  Then we headed for home.

On the way home, we stopped at Kroger - Bert for a prescription, me for tonic water for Ron.  I also picked up a couple little things for Easter.  We headed on home.

When we got to Bert's, I got one of my Easter wishes.  Bert cut my hair!  She didn't cut the back - the length - but just trimmed the top, around the crown, and the bangs, so that I didn't look so shaggy or get such incredible bed-head any more.  I like it!

I came on home, getting here a little after 6, and Ron came out to help carry stuff in, even though I didn't really have all that much.  I'll take all the help I can get!
We just watched TV all night - starting with dead guys, then Criminal Minds, then back to dead guys - and Ron went to bed at 10, and here I am.

The evening sure seemed to fly by, and I sure enjoyed my whole day.  Even with the couple of 'bummers' in there, it was a very good day, and I can sure use such good days.  Gives me hope!

Nothing planned for tomorrow, although I may go do my shopping tomorrow - it all depends on when Ron gets paid.  They screw him around so much and send him so many weird places that he doesn't always get to put money in the bank very easily.  So, we'll see.  If not, I'll go on Friday.

A day of hibernation

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

When I woke up this morning, I just stayed in bed tableting and reading until almost 2.  Almost. 2. Yes, I really did hibernate for a while.  I really just did not want to think about things, or have anything to do with the real world at all - for a little while, anyway.  I finally got up, got up the few dishes that were sitting there, did a load of laundry (Ron's socks).  I ate a bowl/can of chicken noodle soup for my lunch.  I did my Wii exercises, and then just sat in my recliner until Ron texted that he was on his way home.
Then I threw on some clothes and walked out to meet him.  I even made it to the curves, which was a surprise, since I had to get dressed and all before starting out.  And, as I was on 133, Josh stopped to hand me an Avon book from Chelle, too, and to talk to me for a couple of minutes - mostly to tell me it was raining (like I hadn't noticed!) - he's a good son, right?

Ron and I got back home.  I jumped in the shower, which totally confused Ron because he forgot it was Tuesday.  (I soon set him straight!)
We discussed supper, but I leave it up to him.  I'll be gone to my TOPS meeting, and I'm not too picky.  I like what we have here, and he knows what he can make...

I go to my meeting, and once again, I thought my weigh-in would be halfway decent, and, once again, I was disappointed.  I did lose, but only .2 of a pound.  What the hell is up with this?  I am starting to be very frustrated with this, but at least each time - both on Saturday on the Wii and on Tuesday at TOPS - I am recording a loss, albeit a very small one.

I came home, we watched NCIS and NCIS:NO while eating supper.  He made me Spam - nice thick slices of Spam, which I put slices of Colby Jack cheese on - and I finished off the potato salad that was in the fridge.  He zapped himself some mini pizzas.
Yes, I know we live exciting lives.  Ha!

At 10, he went to bed, and I turned on dead guys and moved over to the pute.
And here I am.

Tomorrow, it's over to Eastgate to check out Eyemart and the possibility of buying new glasses.  I am hoping I can get them rather cheaply, but we shall see.  I'm hoping for a Bert and Teresa Day, too.  I'm picking Bert up, so I know she'll be with me.  We'll hope Teresa is up to going out with us.

Oh, what a wonderful day.....NOT!

Monday, March 23, 2015

First of all, let me finish telling you the story that I forgot to tell the ending to yesterday...
Remember that I told you about texting Ron about the cookies we forgot on the back seat of car, and I assumed that he had taken care of it?
Well -- as the event was over, he went to move the car closer to the Center (it was parked close to the church).  He came back in, came up to me and said, "I just now got your message."  WHAT?
Yep.  The cookies were still on the back seat and came back home with us.
2 dozen cookies. Just what we need.  Sigh.

Monday.
I woke up.  I tableted and read.  I got up and played Happy Homemaker - my most favorite thing in the whole wide world, you know - getting the dishes done.  I checked the laundry, too, but decided that it can wait until another day.
Then it was time to get dressed and get headed down the road, so that I had time to get some lunch before eye exam time.  I'm glad that I did that, because the eye exam took a lot longer than I expected it to.
I went to Bob Evans (of course - it's right in front of WalMart, which is where I was going) and had a Sunshine Skillet with banana nut bread for my lunch.  I timed my leaving just right, getting to my appointment exactly on time after a pit stop.

After filling out the zillion papers that always comes with going to a "new" doctor, I am finally called back for my 'pre-exam.'  Pre-exam?  Well, okay.  The technician asks me a zillion questions (that I just answered on those papers) and does a few tests, including the air puff test.  Then it's back out to wait for the doctor.  Finally, it's my turn and the real fun starts.  After all that testing, he puts the dilation drops in and it's off to sit and wait a few minutes for the drops to work.  You know me - I read the whole time! - and then it's back in for the rest of the exam.  Then the rest of the exam, and then the doctor tells me all the news:
1) I have cataracts. That's not a surprise - we all have cataracts, we are born with them.  As newborns, they are clear.  As we age, and for most of our lives, they are white.  As they start to get bad, they turn yellow, and when it's time for surgery to repair, etc., they are orange.  Mine are (already) at the yellow/orange border - more yellow than orange still, luckily.
2) I have water vacules on said cataracts.  These water vacules can 'explode' at any given time, and that can make the cataracts worse.
3) I have bleeding in the back of my eye.  Again, not really a surprise, seeing that I am diabetic AND take blood thinners.  But...
4)  I have dry macular degeneration.  Dry MD is the better one to have - Wet MD is pretty bad.  Dry MD can be treated, Wet MD cannot, not easily, anyway.  This also wasn't a surprise, although the level he spoke of sure was.
5)  My vision is so bad, that when I asked the doctor what my number was (you know, like 20/20 or 20/200 or 20/400), his first reaction was, "Oh, you're off the chart," while shaking his head.  When I pressed him for a number, he said some mumbo-jumbo, then ended with, "something like 20/1200 or 20/1600."  Well.  I guess that tells me, huh?

I put on my goofy little sunglasses to protect my dilated eyes and came home, where I hid from the world the rest of the day.

When Ron came home, we watched Starsky and Hutch episodes.  We made Manwich for supper and that was it.
Oh, the cookies from yesterday?  There are TWO left, and Ron will take those to work with him tomorrow...

Tomorrow I plan to stay in hibernation, then on Wednesday to rejoin the real world.

3/21
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY RON!
I had the alarm set for 9 this morning, and, man, did that alarm go off way too early.  But that's nothing new for me.  Not going to sleep until 1 or 2 tends to make that happen, but I don't know how to go to sleep any earlier.  I am in bed.  I've turned off the light, and nothing - I just lie there.  So I turn the light back on and either tablet or read until I feel that I will sleep.  I've done this my entire life - it's nothing new.  It only bothers me on the mornings I have to get up!

Anyway, I get up and get ready and hit the road.  I stop at the bank and go to Gold Star to pick up their donation for our Nickel Raffle, which is tomorrow - they weren't open for business yet - and then went on up to church to help get the Nickel Raffle all set up.  After we had the items set up, we cooked the spaghetti (part of the Nickel Raffle was a meal - either a 3-way or cheese coneys), so that was one less thing to do on Sunday.  I finally left at 1 to head for home, for an hour's rest before heading down the road to do errands before getting to Ron's birthday party.

We left home at 2, stopping to pick Bert up on the way.  Then it was errand time.  I had to stop at WalMart (for Ron's gift - yes, I'm a slacker!).  I had brought a gift bag from home, and using the back of my car for my table, I did what I needed to do.  Ron had strict orders not to turn around, too!  Then we drove through Walgreen's, picking up prescriptions, then it was time to stop at Valvoline for an oil change.  I was over on my mileage, my car was messaging me to 'change oil soon,' and, when I scrolled through my "book," my car informed me that I only had 4% oil life, so it was time.  I couldn't put it off any longer!  Ugh.
Then, it was on over to Eastgate, where I had to go to GFS to pick up last-minute things for the Nickel Raffle, and I went to go to Party City for balloons but Party City wasn't there.  What?  Evidently, while I was stove up with my back, they moved (over by Hobby Lobby, I was later told) and I just never knew, or realized.  Well, phooey.  Ron doesn't get balloons on his gift table now.

So, then, we just went on over to Golden Corral and set up our tables the way we wanted them.  They had them pretty well set, but I wanted a gift table, too.  I got that set up the way I wanted (except the balloons), and we were ready for people to show up and for this to turn into a party.
I was a little disappointed (for Ron's sake) that more people didn't show up, but not surprised.  That's how things go for us.  Ron was happy - he had said that he didn't want a big fuss, anyway - and the people who showed up, and us, all had a great time!  We ate our fill, then he opened gifts, then we ate some more (dessert!), we sat around and talked, and all in all, it was a good birthday party for a grown man.
We stopped at Kroger on the way home so that Bert could pick up a prescription, then we dropped her off at her house, then we came on home.
Josh, Chelle, Jean, and Corgan stopped on their way home (they had gone shopping when they left Golden Corral), and we played a game called Loaded Questions the rest of the evening.  We had fun!  We'll have to tell you about the race joke sometime - ask us.

After they left, I remembered that I was supposed to make cookies to take up to church for the Nickel Raffle in the morning (the meal ticket gets "you" the aforementioned, a drink, and a dessert), and, so, at that time of night, I baked white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies.  Okay, so it was just a matter of taking them out of the freezer and baking them, but still...
I burnt the bottoms of the first batch because I didn't wait for the oven to preheat, but the rest were fine, and oh! did they smell good.  I got to bed about quarter til 1, turning out the light around 2.  I was tired.

3/22
The alarm went off way too early again this morning!  But I dragged my lazy ass up and out of bed.  Before going to church, we went up to Speedway and got Ron a cup of coffee, because he was going to work over in the Center while I was in church this morning.  He is my stand-in, doing what needs done to finish getting things set up while Mass is going on.  As I was talking to people before Mass, I realized that we had left the cookies on the back seat of the car, so I sent Ron a text so he could run out to get them - he had the keys - so they would be where they needed to be.
I left Mass early, even though I don't like to, so I'd be at the door to sell tickets when people started coming over.  It was a crunch, but it all happened, and the Nickel Raffle was a success!  We did better than we expected to, which was a pleasant surprise.  You should have seen the looks on the little kids' faces when they actually won a prize!  It was wonderful.  And you knew - just KNEW - that everyone who won wanted what they won, because if they hadn't, they wouldn't've dropped their tickets into the bags in front of those items.  We all felt it was a job well done.

After helping a little bit with the clean-up, I flaked out on the rest of them and Ron and I came on home.  He looked at my recliner (the footrest won't or can't be pushed back down while whoever is sitting in the chair) and I took a nap.  Yes, I said I took a nap.
When I got up, Ron was out here sleeping while watching TV, but he woke up easily when I walked into the room.  He couldn't do anything with my chair.  He just couldn't figure it out.  Oh, well - at least I know now that I have to squiggle out of it every time!
We started watching Starsky and Hutch episodes, and eventually decided to make some supper.  I cooked up a pound of bacon, and then Ron decided that he didn't want any.  Men!  So, I had bacon and he had an egg sandwich.  We watched the episodes until almost 9:30, then it was too late to start another one, and we turned on the end of a dead guy show.

Tomorrow, we'll go back to pretty much normal, except for me having an eye examination.  Whee!
I suppose I'll get up and play Happy Homemaker before I go...

Another week.......sigh

Monday, March 16, 2015 -
Friday, March 20, 2015

Another week has gone by with me not getting on the pute to write my blog.  I really do have to start putting that damn tablet down and getting back on the pute, especially in the evenings.  I have to keep this blog up, I have to get back on myfitnesspal, I have to get myself back on track!  It's up to me and no one else!  I am back to square one, I think.

Tuesday, March 17th was St. Patrick's Day.  Yes, even though I didn't go anywhere, I wore my nightshirt/pajama top (it comes mid-thigh on me) with shamrocks all over it all day, so I was 'covered!'  Not that there was anyone here to pinch me, anyway...
When I went to my TOPS meeting, I wore my pretty new green sweater - the one I received for Christmas - so I was 'covered' there, too.  I had high hopes for this weigh-in, too, but no such luck.  I did lose weight, according to their scale, but not as much as I had hoped.  I only lost .6 of a pound, not the SIX pounds it said I gained last week.  Phooey!  I do not know what was up with that - my Saturday morning weigh-in on the Wii was fine.

Spring sprung - or arrived - on Friday night at 6:45.  Maybe Mother Nature will throw one more temper tantrum, and maybe she won't.  We shall see, won't we.  I have changed the bathroom over from Winter to Spring/Summer.  Yay, me!
Tomorrow is Ron's birthday, and we're gonna celebrate it in style - at Golden Corral.  If you saw the notice here, on Facebook, or heard about it, come on over and join us, starting at 4.  Should be a lot of fun!

That's it for now.
Busy, busy next two days, but I promise to be better at this.  I promise!

A beautiful Spring weekend...mostly

3/14
This Saturday morning was a little different than others - first of all, Ron had to go down to Josh's house to help him put in a new water heater (a pretty straightforward job, right?) and Corgan stayed here to go shopping with me, because 1) why would he go home so early in the morning, and 2) I might need help reaching, lifting, and carrying since my back hurts so much (aches) with all this rain that is happening.
So, Corgan got the TV to himself for an hour or so after Grandpa left, then I got up and had to do my weigh-in.  It wasn't as bad as I had feared - according to the Wii, I gained a pound and a half.  After the six pound gain at TOPS Tuesday night, I was ready for just about anything, because I figured the week was shot to hell and back.  I am very satisfied with only a pound and a half, although that's bad enough.
After that, I got dressed and Corgan and I took off down the road.  We went to Walgreen's and picked up prescriptions, then back to WalMart, where I put gasoline in my car.  Then we went over to Bob Evans to eat before doing the shopping.  Corgan got the chicken tenders lunch, while I got the country fried steak breakfast.  They were really busy - I guess people really wanted to get out of their houses - and we sat there enjoying our food for over an hour, almost an hour and a half.  It didn't bother us at all - we just took our time and didn't rush at all.
Then we went to WalMart and did the shopping, walking the whole store.  Doing my WalMart Walk, if you will, We didn't really need all that much, grocery-wise, but it was good to walk that much.

When we got home, we got the groceries carried in - yes, Corgan actually helped me after a nudge or two - and after a flurry of texts, it was decided that we were going down to Josh's for supper.  Chelle made a big ol' lasagna, and I was to bring garlic bread.  Yes, the guys were still working on the water heater.  It ended up being a much bigger job than anticipated.  The solder wouldn't hold; the pipes aren't long enough; the valves; the this; the that and on and on.  What a pain!  But, that's how things happen in this family - we're used to it.  None of us were surprised.

On our way down there, once we hit 52, I just couldn't believe just how high the Ohio River was.  I knew it was high - near or over flood stage - but, damn!  I took my tablet out of its case and took pictures all the way down 52.  It was amazing.  Stunning.  Beautiful, but scary.

With the guys still working on the water heater, we didn't eat supper until almost 8.  At that point, Chelle said - we're gonna eat now! - and we did, then they worked a little bit more, then had to quit for the night.  Josh and a friend will finish it up tomorrow morning, when everyone is rested and can think straight.  Ron and I have church, and then we already have a plan for lunch, so Ron won't be able to help - he said he thought that he was in their way more than anything, anyway.

I got home around 10, and Ron got home close to 11.  It was a long day for him.

3/15
I had to get up to church early this morning to meet to do the Altar Society raffle.  The meeting was canceled because of the weather on the first Wednesday of the month, and the raffle needed to be done, and so it was.  Then church, then Ron and I had a little time to kill before meeting our friends down at Carrabba's for lunch, as was scheduled.
It's been a long time - probably a year and a half, if not longer - since we've been able to go to Carrabba's, and we have been looking forward to it.  We sat there with our friends and just enjoyed the afternoon, and we only left when we did because I had another commitment.

I had to help go through the items donated for the Nickel Raffle that we're going to have at church next weekend, and it's not often the three of us can get together and do things.  Usually it's only two of us doing one thing or another, and today all three of us could do this.  It didn't take very long, since there was all three of us, and we have a good variety of items for this event.  It's gonna be fun!

I got home, finally, around 6, and just collapsed into my recliner, and there I stayed the rest of the evening.
We watched Starsky and Hutch episodes - and Ron stayed awake!  At 10, he went to bed (once he woke up), I turned on dead guys and got on the pute.

It was a nice, peaceful end to the weekend.

Tomorrow, it's Happy Homemaker and back to doing exercises.  Yay.

3/10
I got up this morning and started doing my Happy Homemaker thing - not that I wanted to, but because it sure needed done.  I got a load of towels done, and most of the dishes caught up, and then I got the brilliant idea to go uptown and do some errands and have my lunch at Gold Star and send pictures to my brother to aggravate him on his birthday.  BIG MISTAKE, especially with my weigh-in tonight.
Josh and I also had to go back down to Verizon again today, because the hard reset didn't work on one of his tablets.  What a pain in the ass!  I had to gather everything I needed for my meeting and take with me, because I wouldn't get back in time to go home, then get back uptown for the meeting.  So, now, I'm not sure if it was because I waited too late to go uptown, or because I sat in a car most of the afternoon, or what, but my weigh-in was a disaster!  After the Wii telling me that I lost 2 pounds on Saturday morning, I had high hopes for today.  But -- no, it wasn't to be.  According to the TOPS scale, I have gained 6 (yes, SIX) pounds.  Ugh.  Man, did that ruin my night!
When I got home, we had the chicken breasts that I had put in the crockpot this morning for our supper.  Nothing else, because Ron fell asleep and didn't make anything else.  I guess, in a way, that was a good thing.

3/11
I had a lunch date with my friend Kathy today.  I went down the road to meet her, but she ended up being tied up with work and not able to get away, so we're going to reschedule.  I went over to Teresa's, hoping to be able to throw together a Bert, Teresa, and Rita Day, but she was still watching her great-niece and was ready to lay down for a nap once she left, so didn't want to go out.  Phooey!  I ended up going over to Longhorn by myself and having my almost-perfect salad.  Man, I do like that salad!  I also went to various businesses and canvassed for donations for the upcoming fundraiser at church - we're having a nickel raffle this time - and I got some results, but also left a few letters at places.
I had only been home 5 to 10 minutes when Ron texted me, but I walked out to meet him.  When we got home, we hung the Easter eggs on the trees and bushes in the front yard because it was so nice outside.  It was a little mushy because of the rain that had happened, but it wasn't too bad.
We had supper - a frozen Chinese thing for him, and chicken noodle soup for me.

3/12
I got up early today.  I went to my friend Jody's dad's funeral as support for her.  This whole week has been really hard for her, and I wanted to be there for her.  You all know what a sacrifice it is for me to get my lazy ass up out of bed!
When I left the house, I forgot to put my pocket stuff into my pockets, so after the funeral, I went back home instead of running the errands that I had planned on running.  I stayed home for a while, playing Happy Homemaker and taking a break playing on the pute, then went back uptown (yes, checking my pockets quite a few times!) to run my errands.  Being bad, I went to Gold Star for my lunch.  I figured that this week is already shot to hell, so why not?
I got back home, piddled around doing this and that, and when Ron got home, we played on the Wii for about an hour before making supper.  We had cheese weenies, and he had pinto beans with his.

3/13
Today is going to be a melancholy day.  First of all, it's supposed to rain.  ALL freaking day.  Great.  Just what we need - for today is the day that we are laying Rex to rest.  Oh, well.  I guess we shouldn't be surprised, huh?  Tammy loves the rain, Tracy loves the gloom, and why not today?  I've been setting this up for Ruth (being the go-between, if you will) because she lives where she does and I'm right here, and finally- Finally - this day is here!  All has been situated, and it's time.
I have everything all set out to load into the car and take with me, and do so.  I am leaving early to meet Bert for lunch at Frisch's, and then we both are going to the cemetery.  Sitting there with Bert, I reach for my Chapstick, and - guess what? - I have forgotten all of my pocket stuff again!  What a freaking dork I am!  I tell Bert my dilemma, and she's got my back.  Yay, Bert!  I tell her that I'll take care of her next time, and we're all good.  I am still calling myself all kinds of names, though - what kind of idiot does that 2 days in a row?
We get over to the cemetery, and I go to get the stuff for Ruth out of my car, and I find out that I have forgotten something else, too.  It's sitting right there in my living room, too, so I won't forget it! Oh, how aggravating! It ended up in Ruth's favor that I forgot this, though, so that's definitely a good thing, but still...
I had made, or rather had ordered (had Shutterfly make) a photo pillow for Ruth, to commemorate this day.  I wish I could have been able to afford the blanket, but 1) I didn't have the funds and 2) I don't have that many pictures of Rex, so I just had the pillow made.  The front has 4 pictures - Rex; Rex and Ruth; Rex and Hailey (granddaughter); Rex and Warren (grandson), and the back has Ruth's all-time favorite picture of Rex with a red border.  I warned Ruth that I was going to make her cry today, but she didn't cry.  She was definitely moved, though, and she wouldn't let go of the pillow the rest of the time.  That was good enough for me!
We all finally get together (Josh and Jean were a few minutes late because of the rain), and we get the service started.  It didn't take long, and at the end we spoke of Rex and then it was over.  Fr. Mike did a very good job, considering that he is very much removed from them.

Afterward, Jean came out to the house and hung with me for a bit.  She dropped off some Easter Bunny goodies, as well.  (My closet is getting full!)  She kept hoping the rain would let up a little so she could drive home in relative peace, but it didn't happen.  She finally left, grumbling the whole time.  I can't blame her.  Driving in the rain is not fun.

Ron got here with Corgan, and our evening started.  Ron played a little bit of Wii and then turned the TV over to Corgan.
I made fish patties and potato wedges for supper - they came out much better this time!  The thicker ones weren't quite done (still kinda hard in the middle), but they weren't burnt.  They were quite tasty.

Ron is sleeping.
Corgan is TVing.
I am puting.
Whee!

3/7
Ahhh, the weekend!  Ron let me sleep in while he and Corgan ran up to Georgetown and got his plates and driver's license renewed, and then they piddled around out in the garage and driveway until I woke (and got) up.  I did my usual thing, waking around 10-10:30, and only minimally played on my tablet, catching my games up, and then got up.
I did my weigh-in, and HALLELUJAH I've lost 2 pounds this week!  It's about time!  I felt really good as I got dressed and we got started down the road to do our errands, starting with feeding our faces.  Corgan tried hard to talk me into letting him only wear his T-Shirt since the temps were over 40, but I was the mean Granny and said no, he had to leave his hoodie on, because of the wind blowing.  He wasn't happy, but I stood firm.  Our first stop was the drive-thru at Walgreen's for prescriptions, but it was full - FOUR cars already there, so we parked and I went in.
After some discussion when back on the road, we decided to go to Longhorn's for our lunch.  Corgan and Ron both got steaks, while I had my almost-perfect salad.  We did a couple of appetizers (the stuffed mushrooms and the sweet corn fritters) and they were both excellent!  We took our time enjoying every bite of our food, and when we finally left, we went over to Jungle Jim's, where we got a pack of ribs for Ron to cook up for our supper tonight, as well as some other things that we spotted.
After that, we stopped at Kroger to get Ron's tonic water and I checked the seasonal aisle out pretty thoroughly.  You know I don't get to Kroger very often, so I have to take advantage of it when I'm there!  We were going to go to WalMart after that, but Ron was starting to be a cranky-ass, so we chose to go on home, and he and I would go to WalMart tomorrow after church.

Corgan ran right back into his bedroom to take off his hoodie since we were home, while Ron fussed about not having enough time to fix the ribs the way he likes to, but Corgan and I kept telling him that they'd be fine, and that they'd get eaten, and we left him alone in the kitchen to do his thing.  He did make a few plain for me, and he barbequed up the rest for everyone else.  He made macaroni and cheese, green beans, and corn for the sides.  Josh brought some salad from his house, and I had some veggies (turnips, broccoli, and celery) that I had cut up, and we had those, too.  It was a great meal!
When we were finally done eating, we - all of us but Ron - played board games.  Whoever won got to choose the next game, and we ended up playing 3 games.  We would have played another, but the first one just plain ol' took too long.

After they left, I set the clocks all ahead the required hour and Ron and I went to bed.
Tomorrow - church, lunch, and more shopping!

3/8
After church today, we went to lunch at Campbell's Barn, where Ron totally surprised me - he did NOT order fried chicken!  How about that?  Where's my real Ron?  He got a mushroom burger with fries (he usually says he doesn't like their fries), while I got the chicken wrap that I usually get (when I don't get the bacon cheeseburger) with fries (that I like).  He ate as slow as he possibly could, because he knew when we were done, we were going shopping at WalMart.  He was funny!  He still beat me done, though.  I have started chewing each bite 10 times again - I had gotten away from that - but he started grousing already.  Men!!
In WalMart, we wandered the whole store picking up all the things we've needed but not gotten because we just couldn't afford it.  Yay, tax refunds!  Ron is ready to go before we've even covered half the store....men...

We didn't get home until after 4, and then we had to put everything away.  Yeah, Ron groused about that, too.  But it had to be done, and it eventually got done.
We crashed and watched TV the rest of the night.

OH!!  The watching TV part?  One thing I found - not at WalMart, somewhere else - was Seasons 1 and 2 of Starsky and Hutch, and we've been watching those.  We've been laughing our asses off!  The things that were so up-to-date at the time and are now so out-dated is something else.  Payphones that take a dime, XXX movies (they meet Huggy Bear there a lot) that show 3 shows for $1.50, store signs, gasoline prices, and all that - it's hilarious!!  Ron spends the whole time "recognizing" the cars while I try to recognize the actors, and sometimes I succeed, but I know that I know the faces, but the names just don't pop into my brain.

No plans for tomorrow, just Happy Homemaker crap.

3/9
After I woke up this morning and was tableting while lying in bed, I got a text from a friend who wanted to come over and play on the Wii with me.  I took her, "Sure!" and we arranged a time.  I then got up, did up some of the weekend dishes - no time to really play Happy Homemaker, ate a banana for my lunch, and was ready when she got here.
After she got her Mii all set up and we were ready, we then played on the Wii for over an hour and a half.  We did the training exercises, with whoever had the better score choosing the next game.  After we did all of those, and some a couple of times, we played the 100-pin bowling game (from the Resort disc) and she really enjoyed that.  She said it was the first time she's EVER bowled a 1400+ game!  We agreed that we'll have to do this again - it was certainly much more fun than exercising alone.
After she left, I went down to meet Josh so we could go down to Verizon to try to get their tablets figured out.  We weren't looking forward to it, not at this time of day, especially on a Monday, but it needed to be done.  Their parking lot was so crowded that Josh ended up parking over at Waffle House!  We probably sat in the Verizon store for about 45 minutes before we were waited on, and then another half hour before the problem was solved.  Geez!  Then Josh and I went over to Waffle House to get a bite to eat before heading for home.

Ron had already eaten when I got home, and we just watched TV - Starsky and Hutch episodes - until Ron fell asleep.
Normal evening.

Tomorrow, I get to play the Happy Homemaker that I didn't get to play today.  Then the big test - my TOPS meeting.  Ugh.

I am SO sorry!  I knew that it had been a few days since I had written a blog, but I did not realize that it had been a whole week!
Between the weather (which really makes my back ache and thus makes me not want to move), which also included 2 (TWO) giant snowstorms, worrying about Ron working in such conditions, trying to keep an eye on what we're eating, but wanting to eat good hot food, and all the things that constitute living - it just didn't happen.  Trust me, not much was happening anyway.

Last Saturday when I did my weigh-in on the Wii, it told me that I had gained almost 3 pounds.  THREE!  I was shocked.  I am doing my exercises and all, so I just don't understand.  I am not eating that many calories in a day (even if I'm not back on myfitnesspal yet), but, c'mon!  Some people tell me it's because I eat out in a restaurant more, but more than what?  More than they do?  More than once a week?  I tell you - those are probably the better meals that I eat! When I make meals here at home, those are the meals that are starch and carb laden (potatoes, corn).  And I think that eating in a "sit-down" restaurant, having a real meal, is much better than driving thru somewhere and getting a burger and fries!

Sunday night was the first of the snowstorms, and we probably had 4 or 5 inches of snow from that storm, so the roads were absolutely terrible on Monday.  Then, on Tuesday, the rain started.  Rain!  On top of all that snow, it caused the most horrendous fog that swirled and drifted and puddled and it was the strangest thing to see.  I drove over to Eastgate - and it took me around 6 hours to finish my errands and get back home!  I called and talked to other members, and, luckily, our TOPS meeting got canceled that night.  That fog was just too weird to drive in, plus it was gonna get dark (you know what driving in fog in the dark is like!), and the temps were gonna drop, too.  Yep, it was all gonna start freezing again, too.  The meteorologists were calling for another big snowstorm on Wednesday afternoon, too, but they kept pushing the starting time back and back and back, and finally it started way after they thought - but Ron had to go to work.  It was AWFUL - no other word for it - and finally, a Level 3 Snow Emergency (no one on the roads but emergency personnel) in Brown County and Rumpke was forced to call all their trucks in.  Yes, that's what it takes.  I'm so glad that I didn't know he was on the road on his way home...
At the end of the storm, we had an average of 8 inches of snow this time.  I put on my big boots, got out the yardstick, and went outside to do some measuring!  I had fun doing that - that's about the only fun I can have in the snow now.  I took lots of pictures - not just of the yardstick, but also of the snow drifting (or drifted) here and there and making pretty scenes everywhere.  It was gorgeous!

Today, we had to go rescue Jean's truck from the bottom of their driveway.  Ron has been driving my car to work, so I had to drive his truck (after sweeping all the snow off of it with the broom and getting it out of the driveway, where it had been parked all this time without being moved once) to him, so he had his chain and towing capacities.  Yay!  A big adventure!

I sure am hoping that the Wii will be a little nicer to me in the morning.  We shall see.
And I promise not to let another week go by - even if they are boring.
