My apologies for such a long time between blogs - I was having computer issues this week and I was very frustrated at not being able to write a little more often. I did try, and I mean to try, to keep this up a little better - I promise!
Monday and Tuesday were Happy Homemaker days, even though I got to run errands on both days. I didn't seem to drive myself crazy as I do most days since I got out of the house!
Tuesday, also, I got to go to my TOPS meeting, which was a bummer, because I gained .8 of a pound at weigh-in, probably because I had just eaten lunch between 2:30 and 3:00. I guess walking out to meet Ron on Hoover Road just wasn't enough to balance out that late of a lunch. Blah!
I had a bad, Bad, BAD nosebleed on Wednesday morning. We haven't run the humidifier the last couple of nights because of rain moving in, and I guess I paid the price. I won't make that mistake again, let me tell you!
Ron and I played mini-golf on the Wii tonight, and I soundly beat his ass (we've been playing the easy games, then the medium, then the hard, instead of one of each in each game - I won two games and he won one) and that lifted my spirits a little bit.
Bert called and we set up a trek to Amelia to use her gasoline points on Friday, so that's a good thing, too - for both of us!
On Thursday, I didn't get much accomplished until Ron brought the mail in with him when he got home from work, then I did get our taxes finished. Hooray! I am amazed at the difference since I quit working...
We played mini-golf on the Wii again, and I whooped his ass on all 3 levels this time! Yay, me!
We almost let the pot of beans boil dry while playing, but rescued them just in time and they were good (or as good as beans can be) for this cold weathery day.
Friday was a very good day! A get-out-and-about day!
I got up, got a shower, got dressed, and got out of the house around 1:00. I had a few errands to do uptown here in Bethel before heading down the road and I didn't know when Bert would be calling. I got my errands done, and went on down the road. I decided to go to LaRosa's for my lunch (choices are few and far between on Fridays during Lent). I get there, get settled in, ordered my lunch (a calzone w/4-cheese sauce, tomatoes, mushrooms, and onions with a basket of french fries) and just waited for Bert to call - which happened at ten til three. She had just gotten up, was going to have a cup of coffee, then get ready and leave. I decided that I had enough time to go back to Walmart and do my shopping in that hour.... (am I bad or what?)
I ended up pulling in Kroger right behind her, so I guess I figured the time pretty darn close!
We got our gasoline in our respective vehicles, talked about going to a fish fry tonight, and she said she was going home and I said, "me, too!" and I explained about already going shopping (she laughed) and we both left.
A little after 6 that night, I still hadn't heard from her about the fish fry, so I called and her mom said that she wasn't even home yet! What! After a couple more phone calls, I've got more people worried and nobody knows what is going on. Finally, half an hour or so later, she calls me and tells me that she is just now leaving Walmart and isn't going to go to a fish fry. I told her to call the people I had called and let them know what had happened, because I had called them. She had decided to stop at Walmart for "just one thing" but she doesn't shop much and she doesn't shop there, so she couldn't find these things....sigh.
Needless to say, Ron and I stayed home and I made my little shrimp dish for our supper. We played on the Wii instead of just watching TV, too. Man, was it hard going back to the regular golf game after all the mini-golf we've been playing!
Saturday was just a stay-at-home day, with neither one of us doing very much. Ron went outside to piddle around out in the driveway, but he didn't stay outside very long. He did go over to a friend's to look at a lawnmower for him but that took him less than an hour.
Sunday. Church and lunch. We had decided to go over to Roy Rogers (okay, okay - Roney's) for our lunch today because we had plenty of time and we hadn't been there for a while. Plans - sounds good, right?
At the end of church (luckily), my phone rings - on vibrate (luckily) - and I answer it thinking something must have happened, because they know that we're in church between these times on Sunday mornings. It was Corgan, and he wanted to know if we can come down there because his dad wanted his dad to help him with putting up a new ceiling fan and replacing the garbage disposal and...and...my mind couldn't comprehend that it wasn't an emergency so I told Corgan that I'd call him back, and we talked about it once we really got out of church and out in the car.
I called Corgan back and got all the details, and we decided to go down there - why not? We have all day! So - Change of Plans!
We stopped to eat our lunch, which was those big breakfasts we like, in Georgetown, then on to Ripley we went.
I parked my butt on the couch to stay out of the way and Ron did what he needed to do with Josh, and all their things got done. We stayed for supper and we all discussed things coming up for the year, and we made hopeful plans for summer vacation. We shall see what Rumpke does with Ron this year...
Today was another Happy Homemaker Day, although I really only did the dishes and other little piddly jobs around here. No laundry - I didn't think there was enough for a full load of anything.
I did go outside and play Easter Fairy, hanging Easter Eggs on the trees in the front yard. I think a month of decorations is a decent amount of time to enjoy them.
For today being a Leap Day, it was a pretty enjoyable day, rather than just a humdrum boring everyday day.

Monday was my normal Happy Homemaker Day, so not much happened - yay!
I have come to the conclusion that I must find some kind of motivation for myself for losing weight for now. I used the "I don't want 10 pallbearers" excuse before, and I met all of those goals, except one, and I was okay with not meeting that one - it was close to impossible, anyway. It is now so accessible that it's not really much of a motivation, though, so it's out. I'll think of something eventually...
I also started writing a journal, too - not on the pute, but physically. I figure that since I'm not writing a blog every night, writing in a journal will help me. I know that you guys don't really want to hear all the boring everyday crap - the highlights are enough! Maybe some deep thoughts, too, just to get your opinions on things, too, huh?
Tuesday was another boring Happy Homemaker Day, but when I went to my TOPS meeting and weighed in, I was pleased to discover that I did very well over this 2-week period! No meeting last week because of the weather, remember? So -- ta da! -- I lost 2.8 pounds!! <happy dance!>
Wednesday was a totally wasted day, and that night Ron asked if I had gotten his prescription yet - they weren't in when I had gone down the road last weekend - and I had to admit that I had forgotten about it. I told him that I would go down the road tomorrow and get it. Yay! Some excitement!
Thursday, as promised, I went down the road to get Ron's prescription. Oh, I felt so much better being able to GO!! I think my brain gets stagnant when I stay home too many days in a row. I really do. It gets stagnant and it forgets how to work....seriously.
After coming home, I even stayed dressed and walked out to meet Ron when he texted that afternoon - how about that? I made it all the way to our half mile mark, too. I was quite proud of myself. I thought, "Not bad for not walking for two months!"
Before supper, Ron and I did our weigh-ins on the Wii. He gained weight, while I lost 5.2 pounds! I can handle this! There is hope!
Friday was supposed to be a nice quiet day at home (of course, all day for me) for Ron and I since we don't have Corgan this week. We were going to do all the running on Saturday, since he had to go to Walgreen's with me to pick up his readout for 2015 for tax purposes - they are kinda strict on that.
That all changed about 4:00. I got a text - "Do you wanna go eat with us?" Well, now! After some back-and-forth (mostly because Ron wasn't home yet), we finally determined that this was gonna happen (mostly because Ron never answered my texts) and it sure would be something different. Even though Ron and I should be abstaining today, we agreed that we would do our abstaining tomorrow - we thought that God would understand - after all, He helped make this situation come about, right? So, I got everything together that I would need for all the running that I can do tonight instead of tomorrow and when Ron got home, he showered and changed and off we went.
We met Josh, Chelle, Corgan, and Jean down at Hibachi for supper and had a grand time. Then Josh and Chelle dropped Ron back off at home while Jean and Corgan went shopping with me, then I dropped them off at Jean's truck. I came home, carried in the groceries, and put them all away (not that there was all that many). Ron was asleep in his recliner - what a surprise.
I did remember to make a dessert for the fish fry up at church, and we dropped it off before we drove down the road. I was glad that I remembered this week. That's one thing I was determined to do this Lent - make a dessert every week for the Fish Fry, and I had already forgotten the very first week! But I made it up this week, I think.
Saturday ended up being our nice quiet day. Ron piddled around outside, while I piddled around inside and we got a bunch of stuff done, but nothing accomplished. One of those days!
It was beautiful outside - close to 70 degrees! - and we had both doors open and just enjoyed the day.
When Ron came in, we played a game of mini-golf on the Wii, then watched dead guys the rest of the night. We had eggs for our lunches, and we made mackerel and fried potatoes for our supper, so we kept our "abstinence" promise for the day, too.
Sunday. Church and lunch. Lunch at the Barn. YUM!! Ron had a Mushroom-n-Swiss burger and onion rings instead of his fried chicken dinner, while I had my usual Bacon Cheeseburger and fries.
Then it was home and piddling around again. After a while, we played mini-golf on the Wii, then Ron watched some dumb car crap on TV and when he slept through a whole episode, I turned on dead guys, which made him wake up and say, "Hey! I was watching that!" but I just laughed at him and that was that. Dead guys it was....
And so -- another week will start.

Another few days....and Happy Valentine's Day!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!!
I hope you know you are loved, even if you aren't told every day.
Wednesday and Thursday passed as Happy Homemaker days. Oh, what fun! (not!!) Believe it or not, the house is still pretty clean after the big clean it got for our Super Bowl party, so it's basically just laundry and dishes, which is my definition of normal. Blah.
On Friday, I went down the road to do my grocery shopping. My weekly visit to the Wals - Walgreen's and WalMart - as well as a trip to Kroger for a couple of items. The reason I went to Kroger was: as I looked in my purse for something last night (Thursday), I found a pink envelope. "What is this?" I thought as I opened it, and it was a "Thank You" note and a Kroger gift card from the friend I had taken for the medical procedure on Tuesday. The little sneak had put it in my purse sometime on Tuesday! I texted her to let her know that I found my pleasant little surprise and she texted back "tee hee." So, I picked up a few more common items at Kroger than I usually do since I wouldn't have to pay real money for them.
I decided to go to LaRosa's for my lunch while I was down in Amelia, since it was Friday and all. I used to eat at LaRosa's all the time when I was working, and I loved their tuna sandwiches. In the years since, though, they had changed their tuna - they added carrots to it (yuck!) - and now, guess what? They don't even have it any more! Surprise! When you ruin something, no one buys it any more, that's gonna happen...anyway, I got a calzone with the 4-cheese mix and mushrooms, tomatoes, and onions with a basket of fries. I was half an hour too late to get the lunch deal, but I quite enjoyed my lunch, anyway!
After my lunch, I got my shopping done. Stopping here, there, and everywhere is not always a lot of fun - not with an arthritic back on these cold days - but it's something that needs done, and I enjoy going out and about, so I do it. I don't have much else to look forward to, now, do I?
I got home, got all the bags carried in, and everything put away and collapsed into my recliner to await the arrival of my fellers for the evening.
Ron got home, but he was by himself. They were going to drop Corgan off later, as they were going out, so we had time to rest up and enjoy our own TV. HaHa.
They did drop Corgan (and his friend, Justin) off and went off on their own endeavors. After they got their stuff settled back in the bedroom, we went up to church to the first fish fry of the season! We like to support our own church this first week of fish fry season. No guilt over going to other fish fries after that - in our minds, anyway.
Luckily, the boys didn't really want the TV when we got back home, so Ron and I got to claim it. And so Friday ended.
Saturday was spent spending time with the boys. They'd go outside for maybe 10-15 minutes, then come in because it was so cold and we'd all play cards or Wii, and the cycle would happen again. It was a good day. I did run over to Felicity to buy something for supper, because everything I had here was split up into 'meals' for just us two, and I had to feed six people tonight. But that was only a blip in our day/cycle, and it continued all day long. We were glad when Josh and Chelle got here and gave us a small break from being the only ones playing games with them.
After supper and all of us playing a game, they left for home and Ron and I claimed our TV once again.
Sunday - today, Valentine's Day - normally a church and lunch day now that football is over, was just that. Before we left for church, I managed to sneak back into the bedroom and put two Butterfinger hearts (bought at Walgreen's on Friday) on Ron's pillow for him to find later. I was hoping he would have some kind of something for me some time today, but I wasn't sure.
After church, we went up to Georgetown for our lunch. He got his fried chicken dinner, while I got the big breakfast. As we were sitting there, he tells me that he didn't get me anything. I told him that that's okay. I was a bit disappointed, but I'll live. I know that our finances are a total mess - which is mostly my fault - and he doesn't need to spend his little bit of spending money like that.
As we were coming home, it started snowing. It didn't quit snowing all afternoon, either, and the roads are a complete mess. We didn't see a snow plow/salt truck go by until 7:50! He was headed toward Felicity (south) and he didn't come back the other way (north) for an hour - we assumed that he went all the way down to 52 and back - so, yes, the road was that bad. There hasn't been another one past since, either.
I am so worried already about Ron's drive in to work in the morning. He'll be fine once he gets there, getting in that big ol' garbage truck, but the drive in is gonna be hairy. Many prayers for protection!!
Give each other hugs and kisses whenever you can - just because.
Much love to all!

Being a taxi driver on a snowy day
Tuesday, February 9, 2016
I woke up to the alarm going off this morning - which was a good thing, since I had set it last night! I hit snooze a couple of times, as usual, then got up, got a shower, got dressed and went outside and got the car started and cleaned off, so I could leave on time at 10:00.
I found my friend's in-laws' house and we headed on down the road. The roads, luckily, were clear by then, and we got down to Anderson Mercy in plenty of time for her procedure. They called her back and my fun time of sitting in the waiting room started. It actually wasn't too bad - they had those curvy chairs that are not rock hard - and between reading and tableting, the time went by fast enough.
I was called back to her side when she was in Recovery, and we sat there (well, she laid in the bed and I sat) until she could show she was well enough to go. Then I walked out to get the car and drove it up to the door so they could walk her out. And we started for home.
She decided to go by her house to let her dog out, since she thought maybe between recovering from the procedure and the weather, she may have to stay the night at her in-laws', so we went there before I took her back to her in-laws'. I made sure she made it in the door, then I went back up to Bethel to get me a bite to eat - it was almost 3:30 and I hadn't eaten yet, and my stomach was telling me that I had best get something in it pretty damn soon!
I went to Frisch's and got me a Buddie Boy with American cheese, not Swiss, and a cup of chili, wishing the whole time that it was a big fat juicy bacon cheeseburger and fries but I was being good - especially since I was supposed to go to a TOPS meeting tonight! When I left Frisch's (sitting in the parking lot), I texted my friend and asked if we were still on for the meeting tonight, because it is viciously cold, and she said, yes but it will be very short. Well, okay, then.
I came on home, and the TOPS leader was on my answering machine/voice mail, telling me the same thing. Boy, do great minds think alike or what? I called her back and told her that if I have a vote, I'd like to vote NO because of the cold. The building we have our meetings in never gets warm, and for it to be this cold...ai yi yi! So far, there would still be five of us showing up, and that's enough for a meeting.
I piddled around, getting things together for a supper for Ron, who had pulled in the driveway at the same time I did, and about half an hour later, the TOPS leader called back to tell me the meeting was canceled because it had started snowing again, and her road looked bad again already. Needless to say -- YAY!! I really hadn't wanted to go back out.
So, it was a quiet evening at home tonight, and I enjoyed it. I did heat up some of the beef stew that was in the fridge for some supper for myself, and Ron got some leftover chili.
I figured I'd text my friend around 9:30 to see how her evening went, and she texted me at quarter after nine to let me know all was well with her for the night and to thank me (again). Great minds again! What a neat feeling.
I am starting to hear my bed call me -- a little early tonight, but I got up early this morning, so that is understandable. We'll see how long I can stay up reading and tableting...

Another SUPER weekend

SUPER BOWL Weekend!!
Saturday morning, I got up and went down the road to finish off the shopping for our party - mostly the vegetables for the vegetable trays, because you sure can't buy those too early. I also had to go to Walgreens for prescriptions, as every week, and Kroger for my tart cherry juice, and I went to lunch at the Mexican place (Don Rigo) there in the Kroger plaza. It was a nice respite for the chaos ahead.
After doing my shopping at WalMart, I came back home and got everything carried in while dodging Ron, who was doing some 'cleaning' and when he is cleaning, I stay out of his way! He was also cooking his ribs and wings, too. He likes to cook them halfway today, and they'll finish cooking tomorrow as they warm up for the party.
So, between the two of us, we get the house company-clean, or as company-clean as it's gonna get. I think I did three different loads of dishes, trying to keep everything kept up and out of the way as the day went on, too. Ugh!
Ron "let" us have some wings and ribs for our supper - isn't he generous? We quite enjoyed them!
He finally declared that we'd done as much as we could for the day and we'll finish tomorrow after we come home from church.
Sunday - my church, lunch, football day! Except today, football isn't until 6:30 tonight, and it's the very last game of the season. The Super Bowl. Crowning the Champs of the year...
We go to church, and decide to go to Gold Star for a fast (and rather cheap) lunch, and then get home to finish what needs finished.
I start chopping vegetables and putting them into baggies so I can put them out on trays around 5:00 and have things ready when people are scheduled to show up. Ron cut up the pepperoni, got his ribs and wings into the oven to warm up, and made a general pest of himself wanting to know what else he could do.
We got everything done, and were sitting there watching dead guys when people started showing up (we don't turn on all the razzle-dazzle until 6:00) and we didn't expect them quite as early as they showed up, but it was all cool. We got the food on the plates and platters and in the bowls and made our little quarter bets on the betting sheets. We were high rollers - we bet quarters. Ha!
We got our plates of food - some were on their seconds before the game started - and, finally, this final game of the season started. It was, as most defensive games are, a more-on-the-boring side game, but the team I was rooting for - the team most of us were rooting for - prevailed, although there weren't very many points scored. That was a disappointment. While these teams had good defenses, they also had good offenses (the Carolina Panthers went 15-1 in the season!) and I expected much more scoring. But, in the end, the defense of the Denver Broncos held on and won the game 24-10! And the quarterback did NOT win the MVP - that really made my night!
Josh and his family, and Steve packed up some of the food that was left to take home with them, and Bert was staying the night here, so she would pick over and pack some up tomorrow, so we didn't end up with too much leftovers. We were glad!
Today - Monday - was my normal Happy Homemaker Day. I just had a bunch of extra dishes to do! All of my football dishes...all the platters, bowls, spreaders, yeah, they all needed washed, dried, and put away. Whee!
But I got it done. I even got all the yucky greasy ribs pans done, too. I was a little proud of myself for that one.
After Bert got up and had her morning coffee and a few bites, she cut my hair (finally!). I started asking her back in November to let me know when it would be convenient for her to do this - and here we are. I am SO relieved. My hair has really been shaggy and has been bothering me.
Bert left just as Ron was getting home from work, so she only got to visit with him a few minutes. Then he came in, and our fun evening started - dead guys and/or game shows on TV. WhooHoo! Back to normal!
Winter Weather Advisory in effect overnight from 6pm to 6am. I am playing taxi driver tomorrow for a friend from church, taking her for a procedure at Anderson Mercy. Could be fun, but I think by the time we hit the road - I'm leaving here at 10 - the roads should be clear. Fingers crossed!

Another week goes by, another month starts

Friday, February 5, 2016
Already one whole month of 2016 has passed, and not much has changed. I think I must soon do something about that, but with the way everything is going, I really don't have much motivation to do anything.
Financial problems, as usual in the winter. No news from Social Security and my disability claim - I did get that one packet of papers to fill out mid-January, which gave me a bit of hope, but really, it's now been 14 months and ~ nothing ~ so we continue to wait. It's very frustrating.
I did lose some weight during December and January - but not enough to equal anything, so I don't feel as if I am off that mesa - and I've gained again this past week. Now what? What can I use for motivation? I've reached the goal I set before.
I just feel as though we are stuck in the same deep dark hole with slippery sides and I feel as though it's mostly my fault and there's nothing I can do to help the situation. Nothing.
I lost my job, losing us precious extra money.
I screwed up our finances, I suppose by not factoring less money into our spending, during early 2013.
I had a heart attack, causing major medical bills.
I then totally screwed up our finances because my brain didn't function correctly and I didn't give a crap about paying bills and I didn't pay things unless and until I had to for the next six months of 2013.
I fell, breaking my back, causing major - major! - medical bills once again.
I was bedridden for six weeks after the fall, causing brain misfunction once again. My big thrill was turning over! I mostly slept.
And, now, my sugar is out of control again. Again!! I had it under good control - what the hell happened?
See? It's all me...Ron goes to work every day, works and works and works, sometimes for 14 hours a day. I can't ask any more of him. It's all me.
What am I to do?
This week was mostly spent here at home, playing Happy Homemaker. Ugh! The only good thing was that I had found out that my battle with the DMV was mostly over and I didn't need a chauffeur to do the things I needed to do day in and day out.
On Tuesday, when I went to my follow-up doctor appointment, he wasn't totally happy with my numbers. True, they are running 100 less than a month ago, but they are still 100-150 too high, so he prescribed me another pill since I can't really change my diet (I am only eating between 1200 and 1500 calories a day) and with that kind of diet, I can't add a tremendous amount of exercise. So...yippee...another pill. One of those new ones - Invokana - and I get to go back in another month.
When I stopped at the pharmacy to pick it up, it isn't our usual $10. copay, but $30. Well, we can't afford that!
The next day, I called the insurance - "it's a Tier 2 drug" - and then called the doctor's office to explain and they told me about a card plan for Invokana for people with private insurance, but I had to come to the office and pick the card (and packet) up. Geez!
So, Thursday, it was back on the road up to Milford again to pick this card up. It was a good thing, though, because once the card was activated, it paid, and will pay for an entire calendar year, the entire copay for us. Yay - a small victory! I got all the other errands done while out, too, and finally got home and collapsed into the recliner.
And here we are to today. I spent the day doing more Happy Homemaker shit. Dishes, scrubbing the bathroom, mopping the kitchen floor, baking the cake(s) I'm making for the Super Bowl, cooking a beef stew all day for supper. I just kept going and going and going. I was glad to take my break at 3:00!! Ron got home before 4:00, but he's not been feeling great and he pretty much fell asleep as soon as he sat down in his recliner. He didn't even take his boots off! He finally woke up at 6:30 when I sat his bowl of stew on the tray in front of him.
Being so busy today, I hear my bed calling me, and I've got tons of running to do tomorrow.
My final trip to the DMV, pick up (weekly) prescriptions, weekly shopping, banking, and so on and so forth. Then home to finish getting the house ready for the onslaught on Sunday.
It's gonna be great!!
