Well, I succeeded in getting in some exercise today, if nothing else.
I dragged my lazy ass up out of bed around 9:30 this morning, got dressed, made myself tea, and left. I went up to church to help sort the things that have been donated for our Rummage Sale this coming weekend. I figured that I could give about three hours, as long as I remembered not to lift stuff. (yeah...) That was my goal, anyway.
So, there I am, emptying boxes and bags, carrying the stuff to the various tables and just kept going and going. I did lift a few boxes, but they were very light - I used my common sense! If I felt any kind of pull at all, I did not lift that particular one and moved one. By 11:;30, however, I was starting to feel it in my back. I think it was more from all the standing and walking with no breaks, but I was afraid that if I sat down, I'd never get back up - from choice! So I just kept working and wishing that the hands of the clock would move a bit faster.
We all made a serious dent in all the boxes and bags that had been stacked in the center of the floor, and the tables are looking full of good stuff. Dishes, pictures and frames, holiday things, sheets and other things like that (linens, placemats, napkins, etc.), curlers, kids' toys and stuff, and - of course - clothes! Lots of clothes. (And, of course, we accept all donations. If you wanna clean out your closets, please bring your stuff up to St. Mary's by Thursday...)
A little after 1:00, I called it quits. I just couldn't do it any more. I had just finished with a big box of china (a matched set of 6 place settings with roses - including a sugar bowl and creamer) and that was enough. I said my "see you tomorrow"s and left. When I first got in my car, though, I thought I was gonna SCREAM. Even though my back hurt so bad from standing so long, it was not happy that I had finally sat down! It took me a few minutes before I could start the car and leave.
I went to Gold Star to get some food, and the first thing I did was to take some Aleve. I sure hoped they kicked in fast so that I could enjoy my lunch, let me tell you. I had my normal GoRito and chili cheese fries, and read my latest Guideposts magazine instead of my book while eating. I finally gritted my teeth and got back up, which was not an easy choice to make, and came on home.
When I got here, I went back to bed. Actually, I laid backward in bed - my head at the foot of the bed - and huddled under my quilt. It was quite chilly all day today, and it was raining a bit harder when I left Gold Star, and then got home, so I got wet. Wetter than I had earlier, anyway.
After catching my games up on my tablet, I let myself drift off for a nap. A nap! What a wuss...
Ron woke me up coming in from work. Yep. I am a wuss. I admit it.
I got up not long after that, because I do want to sleep tonight, and I flopped into my recliner while he decided to clean the living room - or his half of the living room - looking for his pills, fix his broken TV tray, and little stuff like that. I stay out of his way when he gets bit by the cleaning bug.
When he was done, we watched Starsky and Hutch while we ate our supper. He ate crackers with cream cheese while I ate some strawberries and a banana. We have put in the last disc now, so we'll soon be done with these first two seasons...wonder what we'll do then?
Advil PM. My bed. Alarm going off again at 9am. Ugh. But - bright side - I'm only working until 11:30 and then I'm going to take Bert over to get her license plates renewed. Yep, she forgot to do that last week. Silly girl. We'll have a great time!
