This is written on June 9, 2014. Only a week to go!
Today is the day of the fundraiser for our church down at Campbell's Barn. We like going to Campbell's Barn, anyway, and on the day of the fundraiser(s), we see more people that we know and it's much more of a social event and a lot of fun.
With this happening to my back, though, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to go or not - because I can't sit and eat a meal - but after my 'picnic on the bench' the other day, I figured I could do the same sort of thing and enjoy my meal, and my day out, today. The Barn doesn't have any benches, though, so I'm gonna have to lay across three or four chairs, so it won't be quite as comfy, but I can live with that. I can put up with anything for an hour or so, right? Especially if I take a pain pill first...
We still had Corgan - he decided to stay again because HE likes the Barn, too - and after church, Ron came home and picked us up, and off we went.
When we got there, some people from church were there, right up front and I stood a few moments (not long, trust me) and talked to them. They had noticed that I hadn't been in church recently, but hadn't heard the story of 'why,' and were very surprised about the news. They were also, or at least said they were, glad to see me. Then I went to one of the long tables in the back to spread out for my meal. Of course, I had to repeat my story for the owner and the waitress, too, since we know them real well from going there so often. I was on the one side of the table, across the four chairs, and Ron and Corgan were on the other side. It was kinda funny, the three of us at such a long table, but, oh well.
I got the chicken wrap and french fries that I like, although I gave most of the fries to Corgan and I only ate one half of the wrap. Ron got his fried chicken, and Corgan got an order of chili cheese fries (the silly boy had made himself some food around 11 and wasn't really hungry....what is it with fellows?), so we all had some good food!
When we got our check, I said something about the fundraiser and Corgan wanted to figure out how much our portion was going to be, so I helped him get the calculator up on my cell phone and helped him punch the correct numbers and symbols in and he was sooooo proud of himself for figuring that out! Ron and I didn't particularly care, but evidently he did, and if it lets him use his brain, why not? (And, by the way, he did make all-A honor roll again this year, earning four certificates, and will be going into the 4th grade this Fall. He's growing up so quickly!)
When we left, we met Josh, Chelle, and Jean at East Fork - back by the dam/spillway - to drop Corgan off with them. It's been a long, long time since I was back there and it's grown up a lot and sure is beautiful. They left to go to the beach to swim, and we came home.
I went to bed. That trip did kinda wear me out - being up on my elbows all that time, not on my back, was weird - and when they stopped to pick up Corgan's stuff, he came in to give me a 'bye' hug, but none of the adults even stuck their head in the bedroom door! They thought I was asleep, because they didn't hear me, and I didn't holler out at them because the air conditioners were on in both the bedroom and the kitchen and I knew they wouldn't hear me anyway. Chelle texted me later and I teased her and she said that they thought I was sleeping and I said, 'you didn't even look!' and told her about the A/Cs being too noisy. So everything was cool, but I thought it was funny.
I ate the other half of my wrap for 'supper' that night - I was surprised, I think that's the first time I've eaten twice in one day in this whole ordeal.
All in all, it was a real good day.
It sure did feel good to get out somewhere that wasn't a doctor appointment or the grocery store!
