HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY RON!
I had the alarm set for 9 this morning, and, man, did that alarm go off way too early. But that's nothing new for me. Not going to sleep until 1 or 2 tends to make that happen, but I don't know how to go to sleep any earlier. I am in bed. I've turned off the light, and nothing - I just lie there. So I turn the light back on and either tablet or read until I feel that I will sleep. I've done this my entire life - it's nothing new. It only bothers me on the mornings I have to get up!
Anyway, I get up and get ready and hit the road. I stop at the bank and go to Gold Star to pick up their donation for our Nickel Raffle, which is tomorrow - they weren't open for business yet - and then went on up to church to help get the Nickel Raffle all set up. After we had the items set up, we cooked the spaghetti (part of the Nickel Raffle was a meal - either a 3-way or cheese coneys), so that was one less thing to do on Sunday. I finally left at 1 to head for home, for an hour's rest before heading down the road to do errands before getting to Ron's birthday party.
We left home at 2, stopping to pick Bert up on the way. Then it was errand time. I had to stop at WalMart (for Ron's gift - yes, I'm a slacker!). I had brought a gift bag from home, and using the back of my car for my table, I did what I needed to do. Ron had strict orders not to turn around, too! Then we drove through Walgreen's, picking up prescriptions, then it was time to stop at Valvoline for an oil change. I was over on my mileage, my car was messaging me to 'change oil soon,' and, when I scrolled through my "book," my car informed me that I only had 4% oil life, so it was time. I couldn't put it off any longer! Ugh.
Then, it was on over to Eastgate, where I had to go to GFS to pick up last-minute things for the Nickel Raffle, and I went to go to Party City for balloons but Party City wasn't there. What? Evidently, while I was stove up with my back, they moved (over by Hobby Lobby, I was later told) and I just never knew, or realized. Well, phooey. Ron doesn't get balloons on his gift table now.
So, then, we just went on over to Golden Corral and set up our tables the way we wanted them. They had them pretty well set, but I wanted a gift table, too. I got that set up the way I wanted (except the balloons), and we were ready for people to show up and for this to turn into a party.
I was a little disappointed (for Ron's sake) that more people didn't show up, but not surprised. That's how things go for us. Ron was happy - he had said that he didn't want a big fuss, anyway - and the people who showed up, and us, all had a great time! We ate our fill, then he opened gifts, then we ate some more (dessert!), we sat around and talked, and all in all, it was a good birthday party for a grown man.
We stopped at Kroger on the way home so that Bert could pick up a prescription, then we dropped her off at her house, then we came on home.
Josh, Chelle, Jean, and Corgan stopped on their way home (they had gone shopping when they left Golden Corral), and we played a game called Loaded Questions the rest of the evening. We had fun! We'll have to tell you about the race joke sometime - ask us.
After they left, I remembered that I was supposed to make cookies to take up to church for the Nickel Raffle in the morning (the meal ticket gets "you" the aforementioned, a drink, and a dessert), and, so, at that time of night, I baked white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies. Okay, so it was just a matter of taking them out of the freezer and baking them, but still...
I burnt the bottoms of the first batch because I didn't wait for the oven to preheat, but the rest were fine, and oh! did they smell good. I got to bed about quarter til 1, turning out the light around 2. I was tired.

The alarm went off way too early again this morning! But I dragged my lazy ass up and out of bed. Before going to church, we went up to Speedway and got Ron a cup of coffee, because he was going to work over in the Center while I was in church this morning. He is my stand-in, doing what needs done to finish getting things set up while Mass is going on. As I was talking to people before Mass, I realized that we had left the cookies on the back seat of the car, so I sent Ron a text so he could run out to get them - he had the keys - so they would be where they needed to be.
I left Mass early, even though I don't like to, so I'd be at the door to sell tickets when people started coming over. It was a crunch, but it all happened, and the Nickel Raffle was a success! We did better than we expected to, which was a pleasant surprise. You should have seen the looks on the little kids' faces when they actually won a prize! It was wonderful. And you knew - just KNEW - that everyone who won wanted what they won, because if they hadn't, they wouldn't've dropped their tickets into the bags in front of those items. We all felt it was a job well done.
After helping a little bit with the clean-up, I flaked out on the rest of them and Ron and I came on home. He looked at my recliner (the footrest won't or can't be pushed back down while whoever is sitting in the chair) and I took a nap. Yes, I said I took a nap.
When I got up, Ron was out here sleeping while watching TV, but he woke up easily when I walked into the room. He couldn't do anything with my chair. He just couldn't figure it out. Oh, well - at least I know now that I have to squiggle out of it every time!
We started watching Starsky and Hutch episodes, and eventually decided to make some supper. I cooked up a pound of bacon, and then Ron decided that he didn't want any. Men! So, I had bacon and he had an egg sandwich. We watched the episodes until almost 9:30, then it was too late to start another one, and we turned on the end of a dead guy show.
Tomorrow, we'll go back to pretty much normal, except for me having an eye examination. Whee!
I suppose I'll get up and play Happy Homemaker before I go...
