A great day, which ended in a bit of stupidity

Saturday, March 1, 2014

I woke this morning to an empty house.

Now, I know that this is not unusual, but today is Saturday, and usually on Saturday, I wake up to the TV blaring and Corgan being 'quiet' and Ron telling Corgan to be quiet, that Granny is still sleeping - stuff like that.  Today, however, they were gone on a rescue mission.  (NOT my family, for a change! An old school friend of Ron's, who now lives just down the road from us)  So I got up to an empty, quiet house.  Strange for a Saturday.  They had left before 9, and they got home before noon.  I was glad!  I got my weigh-in done just before they got home, and I have lost 3 pounds according to the Wii.  I'm not sure how, since I didn't do a lot of exercise this week, but I'm sure happy with that number!

We had Corgan look in the freezer to find something for lunch, and - lo and behold! - he found those little pizzas that I had bought the other day at the 5-for-$20 meat at SaveALot, just like we knew he would and what we had planned for lunch today.  They weren't too bad, actually.  I will definitely have to get more in the future.
After talking to Josh & Chelle, we determined that they were coming to supper, as well as picking Corgan up, so we had to figure out something for supper for everyone.  I decide to make Johnny Marzetti, and we should go get garlic bread to go with it.  We have to go pick up prescriptions and my coat from the dry cleaners, anyway, so it's no biggie to stop at Wally World, right?  Dummy me - I forgot 1) it's the beginning of a month and 2) the White Death is coming again.

We take off down the road at 2, figuring we had plenty of time til time to make supper.  We drive through Walgreens, then I get to the dry cleaners.  I had left my ticket laying on the kitchen table!!  God!!  I'm a dork!  Luckily, it's easy enough for them to look me up in the computer, and I get my lasagna-free coat back.  Back to WalMart we go.  That's when I realize my mistake.  That parking lot was PACKED.  We brave the crowd anyway, since I had remembered my small shopping list and we wanted garlic bread anyway.  Ron went off to look for him new gym shoes, and Corgan followed him, and I went through the grocery aisles.
Getting my WalMart Walk in, I got the few things we needed and, since the fellas had rejoined me, we went to pick out our garlic bread.  Damn, is there too much garlic bread in the world, or what?
Then came the fun of standing in line and checking out.  That takes longer than doing the shopping itself!  I swear, it really does!  I just don't understand why WalMart doesn't open more lanes on a Saturday afternoon., let alone the first weekend of a month.  But, that's me.
We finally get through with our 15 items in 10 bags - something else that bugs me about WalMart - and get back out to the car.  We rearrange things, leaving the extra bags in the cart, and load the car up and leave, playing obstacle course as we go.

Ron and Corgan go outside while I start supper.  I opened the back door so that I could enjoy some of this nice day also - it got pretty warm in the kitchen while I was making supper.  Using more than one burner on top of the stove, and then the oven, sure got the kitchen hot!  It felt good to be able to have the door open for a  while.  We left it open all during supper.
I threw together bits and pieces for a salad to start with, then we had the Johnny Marzetti - which is where the stupidity comes in - I forgot to put the spaghetti sauce in it when I put it all together in the pan to pop in the oven!!!  How in the hell can you forget that??  Duh.  But I did!  I had also put the hamburger mix on the bottom instead of the elbow macaroni, so I think when I discovered that, and was pouring the hamburger out into a bowl, and putting the pasta in and then the hamburger back in, that I just got in a hurry and then plopped the cheese on top and totally forgot about putting the sauce on top of the hamburger mix but before the cheese.  Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I warmed the sauce up in a saucepan and we put the Johnny Marzetti on our plates, then ladled the sauce on it and mixed it all up, right on our plates, so it all worked out, but still stupid of me.

When I took the Johnny Marzetti out of the oven, I put a peach pie in.  I used the recipe of the cherry pie that I made a couple of weeks ago to make this, but I used twice as much fruit.  Ron really likes peaches, so I thought I'd try this.  Well, if you double the fruit, you must add to the cooking time.  We found this out the hard way tonight.  Another stupid move on my part tonight.  God!

After supper was all over, I went to refill my drink, and what is sitting in the freezer?  The boxes of garlic bread!   Talk about feeling stupid!!  Major fail for supper tonight!!   I am sooooo glad it was only family tonight!!

Josh and I then played Jeopardy on the Wii, and I BEAT HIS ASS!!  He said that the remote had a mind of its own on Final Jeopardy, but ... I beat his ass!!  Yes!!  (Pretty sad when the high point of your day is beating your son at a game, right?)

They left to go home then, and Ron and I got to watch dead guys for a while.  I, as usual, got on the pute, and he fell asleep.  Sometimes I wonder why he even turns the TV on, but I can't convince him that the radio makes noise, too.  <The stereo, which is in the kitchen, is on 24/7, but very low.>

When I put my food and exercise into MFP, I was 150 calories short for the day!  Yay, me.  I thought it would be close, and it was.  Thank God for that WalMart Walk.  I would like a snack, and if it weren't so late, I'd have some popcorn, but I'm gonna be good!

So, I lost 3 pounds according to the Wii, then I got through my Stupidity supper, and beat Josh's ass at Jeopardy.  I think my day is complete.
