5/16
Saturday. Ah, Saturday! Lots to do, but plenty of time. Ron has plans at home, so Corgan and I (believe that one? I didn't!) will take the truck and go shopping. But, first, as I do on Saturday mornings, I did my weigh-in. And, finally - FINALLY! - I have lost some weight according to the Wii! Almost 2 pounds, even. 1.8 to be exact, but who's counting? I am so glad to see that!
I get everything together to go do my shopping (list, etc.) and Corgan decides to go with me. Evidently going shopping with me and spending the money in his wallet beats staying here and helping Grandpa clean (detail) my car - the BengalMobile. Besides, that means he gets to ride in the truck. He's such a goofball! Oh, well, I'll be glad for the company.
We go to Walgreen's first - it's the furthest away - then came back to the WalMart complex. I put gasoline in the truck, then we went to Bob Evans for our lunch. Corgan, the greedy little turd, got the sirloin steak dinner, while I had the country fried steak breakfast. Then it was time for shopping and guess what? The little turd shops just like his granny! Not that I minded that part so much, but I had tried to get him to go on to the toy department while I did the grocery shopping and he refused. He stayed with me. Then we went to the toys.
He walked up and down each aisle (except the dolls), he with his hands in his pockets, just looking and looking and looking as I'm trailing him with the cart. Finally he says, "I better look and see how much money I have," and pulls out his wallet and counts his money. What??!! I asked him why didn't he do that first, so he'd know immediately whether or not he could afford whatever it was he was looking at. His reply? "I don't shop like that." Like I said - little turd. But, he's our little turd!
We finally get out of the store and get back home. We get the groceries carried in and the perishables put away. I make the corn salad, or southwest salad, to go with us to Josh's along with the potato salad and other cookout goodies. Ron had said that he wanted it, so that was why I was making it at the last minute.
A little after 4, we left to take Corgan home (or to go down to Josh's, however you want to say it) and have our cookout for supper. It was still kinda rainy, so Josh had to cook on his front porch, and we all sat out on the porch, too. We had Ronburgers and cheese weenies, potato salad, corn salad (southwest salad), deviled eggs, onion soup (Josh's idea!), baked beans, along with other accouterments - you know, sliced tomatoes and onions and other condiments. It was yummy, and it was a great evening!
We left there shortly before 9, and Ron and I went from Ripley to Hamersville. There's a big party called Hamerstock (a la Woodstock) for Bethel-Tate alumni and their friends, and I've been looking forward to this, especially since I missed the first one last year. Being bedridden tends to do that, you know - make you miss things, I mean. I sure didn't want to miss this year's event! Hamerstock II, here we come!
We get there, and meet up with friends and -- POOF -- there goes the rest of the night! There was a live band (more Bethel alumni) playing all night, and there was talking and dancing and talking and hugging and talking and dancing and talking and did I mention talking? Oh, it was great fun!
We finally left just before midnight, but, man, did we hate being party-poopers.
Once home, it didn't take us long to fall asleep. We were both exhausted, and tomorrow is gonna start early, too.
5/17
The alarm started going off at 8:45. Since we wanted to be gone by 9:15, we weren't able to hit snooze too many times, even though we wanted to! We were to meet Josh, Chelle, Jean, and Corgan down on Kellogg Avenue (a 45-minute or so drive) at 10:00, so we had to get moving.
As I'm driving, Ron tells me that he knows of a 'shortcut' to get down to Kellogg. Well, I was gonna just go down to New Richmond and hit 52, and, boom, you're there, but now...
He says to go over to 32, go through Newtown and hit Wooster, and we'll end up right near where we want to be. I tell him that it sounds longer to me, since we're going away from our destination, but okay. I head that way (sometimes, you gotta let the man....never mind) and as we're in Newtown, I ask him where do we hit Wooster? He tells me that we come out by the airport, then circle around, and, and at that point I interrupt him to ask him, "You mean out on 125, out on Beechmont Levee? THEN hit Wooster and go across?" "Well, yeah." So much for a shortcut.
We finally got to the Antique Mall and restaurant we were heading for, only twenty minutes late, and met up with the rest of the family, and the day commenced. We had a blast going through the antiques and calling out to each other when we saw things, and all that. Ron bought me a new Bengals glass, and Chelle found herself a butterfly fairy. I could spend hours - HOURS - in places like that! I could drop some serious dineros, too, if I had 'em!
After the antiques, we were going to the attached restaurant - the Swampwater Grill - for some real Cajun food, since they had never had any before. Well, we got in there, and they are having a brunch. You HAVE to order the brunch, which is just normal brunch food, nothing really cajun, unless you want a cajun omelet, and man, am I pissed!! It doesn't say this on their website or anything. It says brunch, yes, but not that the menu is not available. Oooh, am I steaming! If I had just wanted this kind of food, I could have gone to Frisch's or somewhere, not driven so far. Josh and Chelle took it much more in stride than I did, and they even picked up the bill for all of us! We sure didn't expect that. We were supposed to pay for ours, and them theirs. That was a very nice gesture, and we appreciated it.
We leave there and head for home, this time going up 52 to New Richmond, then up 132 to Amelia so we could go to WalMart. We got our veggies for our salads and a couple things that I forgot yesterday, then headed on toward home. We went to the car wash so Ron could wash the car. I wanted to get my new Bengals stickers and magnets put on today while it was nice outside if we could. Then, home.
We had one more thing on the books for this weekend, and I found our invitation to check the times. It's an Open House for the 25th anniversary for friends from church, and, as these things go, it's already later than we wanted to go, but not too late yet. So, I change my clothes (I had spilled my drink on myself) and off we go again. We stay at Nick and Linda's for about an hour, just talking and visiting and enjoying the company, but then we make our excuses and come back home.
We put the stickers and magnets on my car, then come in the house and collapse into our recliners. That was pretty much it for the day - for the weekend!
We had leftovers from the cookout for our supper, and we've just watched dead guys on TV tonight.
It's been a great couple of days. Busy, but great. I guess that will keep us out of trouble...
Back to the real world tomorrow.
