5/6
Today started with Ron calling me around 10:30. He knew that I was going to get up and go down the road to get my new glasses, but since there was no set time, he thought 10:30 was a good enough (read: late enough) time to call. This is strange enough in and of itself, but then he started the conversation with, "I wrecked my bike this morning," it totally woke me up pretty quick! I quickly asked him, "What happened?" and "Are you all right?" in practically the same breath, and he told me the whole story.
As he was going down Jones-Florer Road, there was a TREE across the road down in a dip where it was practically invisible until the last moment. He hit his brakes, but not in time to stop. He had to make an immediate decision which way to go, and he went through the ditch on the end of tree where the branches were as opposed to the end that was still (probably) stuck in the ground. However, the branches were unforgiving and broke his high-beam headlight, his left mirror, and snapped back to catch his arm, scratching and bruising him pretty badly. His arm was sore, and had been sore all morning, but seemed to be getting better now. I tell you what - my head was spinning! I just couldn't believe it! Do you know how very bad this could have been? How absolutely awful? Please don't tell me that his guardian angel wasn't watching over him - I'll never, ever believe you. How else could he have come through that so...unscathed, for lack of a better word?
He could have hit that tree dead-on, but he didn't. He could have broken at least his arm going through those branches, but he didn't. He could have gotten poked in the eye by those branches, but he didn't. He does have some nasty scratches and an awful-looking bruise, but that. is. it.
We have said many prayers of thanksgiving!
After talking to him, and settling down after talking to him, I got up, got dressed, and hit the road. I went uptown and did a couple of errands, then went and picked up my friend Bert, and off we went to complete our day. I stopped at WalMart to get my new glasses, and on we went. She went to get her blood tests, then we went to our friend Teresa's, hoping that she would feel like going to lunch with us, but no such luck today. She watches her great-niece, and her niece's schedule has changed, so she'll be getting Addie in just a little while. Boo. So, off Bert and I go. Before lunch, we go so that Bert could coupons off for the military, then we discuss where to go to lunch - same old, same old or somewhere new?
We finally decide to go to Applebee's, which is a different place for us. It's also a sports bar, but usually, on a weekday that wouldn't make much difference. After we're in there, though, I soon realize that the TVs are playing the news about the conclusion of the report of the Patroits and Deflategate. It's about time!! I'm glad to see this news, but Bert doesn't give a rat's ass. I try to not pay too much attention to the TV - after all, they were just playing the same crap over and over - but when there are so many TVs everywhere, it's kinda hard.
Bert had a cheeseburger and a salad, and I had a Clubhouse Grille sandwich and potato soup, and both of our meals were great! We sat there for quite a while and just enjoyed the atmosphere. Bert was enjoying watching the bartenders making and pouring drinks, while I was....you know. Good thing we chose the seats we did!
We finally head for home a little around 4:30, meaning to stop at WalMart again, so that Bert could pick up a few things. As we got closer, though, she decided that she didn't want to go shopping - she just wanted to go home, so we didn't stop. We just went home. I dropped her off, then went on home myself.
I hadn't been home very long, and had changed from my jeans to shorts, when Ron texted that he was on his way home, so I got my gym shoes on and started walking out to meet him. I made it to our half-mile marker, and waited there for a few minutes, and then started walking on down Hoover Road. I made it to the 3/4 mile spot, which is in shade at that time of day, and stayed there for a few minutes. I'm getting really worried, too, because while I was walking between these two spots, the Bethel-Tate fire trucks went out (down) Jones-Florer Road! Good grief! Shit. Shit. Shit. I keep walking on down toward the end of Hoover, and almost made it, but the house at the end (across from Hoover, on Jones-Florer) had a dog in the back yard that started barking and running around, and I didn't know if there was a fence, or what, so I stopped where I was and just kinda wandered around right there.
Finally, Ron pulled onto Hoover. He was amazed that I had made it all the way to the end! I asked him where the hell had he been and he said, "Oh, I stopped to talk to Harry." MEN!! I got on the bike (you don't know how glad I am that I can do that!) and we came on home.
I had to take a shower after that walk - I have an Altar Society meeting tonight - and then just collapsed in my recliner until time to leave. Man, is it hot!
I go to my meeting, leaving Ron to get his own supper. It was a good meeting, getting a lot of things covered. As I was leaving, the woman in front of me let go of the door before I expected her to and the door came back and whacked me a good one on my left arm. My first thought? "Well, at least I'll know where that bruise came from!" Am I weird or what? (Don't answer that...)
I got home, turning on Criminal Minds, and that was that.
After a little while, I ate a bowl of Basic 4 cereal and that was my supper.
This big thrilling day is over. Thank God.
5/7
When I woke up this morning, I texted Ron, as I do, and he replied with, "Call me." Oh, shit. Six million thoughts start going through my mind, including Now What? and that's not a good thing. So I call him, and, luckily, it's only to tell me that he is coming through Bethel, and did I want to come and get his paycheck and do the banking so he didn't have to worry about it. Whew!
So, instead of doing my tableting and reading, I get to get up, get dressed, and go uptown to meet Ron. What a difference! I meet him, and we spend about ten minutes talking, him rubbing my left arm - pointing out my beautiful purple bruise - before he gives me his paycheck and goes on his way. I go on to the bank, then to IGA for 5/$20. meat and lunch for tomorrow (a field trip with Corgan!), then I come on back home. Hey, it IS only 10:30 in the morning...
I get the meat put away, except for the pound of bacon that will be my lunch, do dishes, and then it's recliner time! I finally get to do my tableting and reading.
I put things ready on the kitchen table for my lunch tomorrow. I'm going to Coney Island, to the Appalachian Festival, with Corgan and Chelle, as part of his field trip. Chelle is his official chaperone. I'm just meeting them there, but will be included as part of the group. This is gonna be a real test for me, I think. It's gonna be a lot of walking, but I sure hope there will be places to sit when I need to! I think I'm up to it, though - after all, it's been over a year!
When Ron texted me that he's on his way home, I walked out to meet him. I made it to the half-way marker, and stayed there for a few minutes, then started on down the road, and he showed up before I got too very much farther. It was a little hard getting up in the truck, but it was still easier than this time a year ago!
We got back home, and I couldn't stand it any more. I turned on the AC. I had to - I felt as though I was melting. I was trembling, I was sweating so much it was dripping down my back and face. The fan just wasn't going to do it. On May 7th!!
We didn't do much the rest of the evening. At 7:30, once the sun went (mostly) down, I watered all my new plants. I made fish patties for supper, and I ate mine with a few veggies that we had left.
We ate supper while watching Bones - two episodes! - then it was time for dead guys.
And another big thrilling day is over.
I'll let you know how the big test goes tomorrow.
