MAY! It's May already! Can you believe it?
5/1
I got up today, and got some work done around here - playing Happy Homemaker, you know - to get the house ready for the weekend. I didn't do a whole lot, just piddly stuff, taking lots of breaks as I am wont to do.
We already knew that Corgan would not be coming home with Ron because he was going to go to a play at the high school - Ripley's high school - with his mom tonight and they would bring him up to us later, when the play gets over. Wow! Just us on a Friday night!
I didn't walk out to meet Ron since I hadn't even gotten dressed yet today (yeah, it was that type of day), and - to my surprise - when he got home, he wanted to go out to get some supper. Really? Is this my Ron? Mr. Stay-home-no-matter-what-after-working-all-day? Wow!
Well, you know me. I went and got dressed rather quickly, and we drove over to Felicity and had our supper at the FeedMill. Ron had a mushroom steak hoagy with fries, and I had loaded potato skins. Yes, it's usually an appetizer, and large enough for the whole table, but I thought they sounded good, so that's what I got. Potatoes, cheese, and bacon - what more do you need?
We got back home and watched our dead guys until they got there with Corgan, then I went to bed. Grandpa, you know, "stayed up" with Corgan. (He was already watching TV through his eyelids...)
I have to get up early to go to the Plant Auction over in Felicity in the morning. We were told that it was starting at 9:00, even though it usually starts at 10:00, so UGH. That alarm is gonna go off super early!
5/2
The alarms started blaring way too early, of course. But I managed to get up, do my weigh-in (it's the first week), get myself ready, and hit the road only ten minutes later than I wanted to, which is pretty good for me.
I get to the Plant Auction to find out that it really does start at 10:00. Well, phooey! But, oh, well, I'm here now and I'm sure not going to get a nap now! For a long time, it looked like my friends and I were going to be the only people there, but at the last minute, a few others showed up. But there were no where near as many people there as there usually are. We didn't get any advance notice this year - we were making frantic phone calls on Thursday and Friday (which is how we got the wrong time) to find out if it was even happening. I don't know how or why their notices didn't happen, but...
I wasn't really looking for any particular plant this year, but was waiting to see what the ladies of the Felicity Garden Club had dug up out of their yards. I ended up getting some purple columbine, a peony bush of unknown color, some purple phlox, and two red raspberry bushes. I also got two other little plants, but I don't know what they are and I'm just going to donate them to our Plant Auction up at church next Saturday. Someone will know what they are!
When the auction was over, I called Ron, and he and Corgan came over and joined me for lunch. Corgan got a pizza (sausage and jalapenos), this time cooked on/in the pizza, Ron got his mushroom hoagy with fries again, and I got the ham and cheese hoagy with steak fries. I also got a slice of strawberry pie - it looked so good.
We got back home, and then the fun started! We got to plant the new plants. That was the plan, anyway. I had to dig up the buttercups that were taking over my columbine patch first, and that ended up being more than I could do. Ron had to quit doing his yard work and help me. I didn't ask him - he volunteered!
He noticed that I kept taking breaks and all, and came to my rescue -- my Prince Charming!
We got the buttercups dug up, the columbines planted, then the buttercups replanted around the corner. We planted the raspberry bushes and the peony bush. That was enough for today. I wanted to separate the phlox before planting it - it's going to go into the squares.
By then, Josh had texted and wanted us to come down there for supper, anyway. So, we agreed to and said that we would leave here around 6:00, which would give us time to get everything put away and us cleaned up.
We left to go down there, and Corgan was asleep before we got five miles down the road! The little turd!
After we got to Josh's, we played board games while he finished supper. We played Wise and Otherwise (Jean kicked our asses), and then we played ImaginIff while we ate supper, and Jean won that one, too. Corgan is getting good at playing these "grown-up" games with us, although we do have to chivvy him along sometimes.
Ron and I got home around 11:00, and it didn't take us long to collapse into bed. We were exhausted!
My back wasn't too happy with me, either. It was a crybaby all afternoon, and all night, long.

Sunday. Church and lunch.
We had lunch today up in Georgetown. Ron had his fried chicken, and I had the big breakfast. We were there with our friends John and Beverly, so we sat there visiting, talking, and enjoying the time together, instead of just eating and running. Before we left, I hung a flyer for our Plant Auction - see, there's a method to my madness - and then we drove all the way to Amelia.
In Amelia, we visited the Wals. Walgreen's first, because I had prescriptions to pick up, then back to WalMart. My big purchase this week, and the main reason Ron is with me, is topsoil. We've got planting to do! You should have seen the looks we got when we rolled our cart full of groceries out to pick up the topsoil!! It was kinda funny!
We got back home, got the car unloaded and put away what needed put away, and then changed our clothes and got to work. Ron carried the topsoil to the long flowerbox and the two squares while I sorted out the flower seeds. He went to do his mowing and weedeating while I got to work in said flowerboxes, digging out the old dead dirt, putting in the seeds and laying new topsoil. Sadly, I discovered that the seeds that I thought would be enough for all the boxes were only going to be enough for only the long box. Well, phooey.
I did the long box first, and then had to take a break. Damn this back! After a small rest, I got the phlox divided, and got to work in the squares. I got them done pretty quickly, since all I could do was put in the phlox. I have to decide if I want to put petunias or geraniums in them now, since the seeds didn't stretch that far. I'm thinking geraniums.
Then Ron helped me rowdy up the ground back by the shed, and I planted blue Morning Glory seeds on the back corner. I have been looking for a long time for those blue flowers, and I finally found them this year! Ron also set up a square on the cistern lid for us to put tomato plants in. They don't seem to do any good in the yard no matter where we put them, so why not?
We didn't get done out in the yard until after 8:00. He eventually ate a peanut butter sandwich for his supper, and I had a bowl of cereal (Basic 4) for mine. Yep, we're living high on the hog!
My back is not happy with me again tonight, but, by God, I pulled my fair share of the work today! I am very satisfied with the work I did today, and if I had to take a few breaks to get it done, so be it. It still got done.
Tomorrow, it's back to Happy Homemaker and I also get to start on laying bricks for a small 'patio' under the glider chairs in the little tree copse. Busy, busy, busy!!
