A fun day for us

Saturday, October 26, 2013

Today was planned to be a fun day for us, and it turned out to be so.  Although it started out just a little different than we expected, it went on and ended just as planned, and we can live with that.

Last night, when we went out, I noticed (on a sign in front of a store as we were driving down the road) that said store was hiring.  When we came back by, though, they were already closed - at 8:30 on a Friday night!  Heck, yeah - I can handle a job like that, I think.  Even one that is standing for most of the time...
Anyway, I got up around 9 this morning and drove back down the road this morning and put in an application there.  Unfortunately, as I did so, I was told that they had received 'quite a few' and they would be going through them, then calling people in for interviews, and so forth, so we shall see.  Blah.

On to our fun day.  I had made my famous - or should I say infamous - 7-layer salad last night after returning home (nothing like chopping veggies and boiling eggs at 10 pm, right?), so it could sit in the fridge and set and 'chill' all night long.  So, today, we got the salad and our drinks and off we went to our friends' house for a day of games with other friends.  Our hostess had made 2 big pots of soup - one bean soup, one vegetable soup - along with a bread to go with them.  Other guests had brought munchies and desserts, and we brought the salad.  We had our lunches, then we played Bingo all afternoon.  Each guest had brought two gifts in plain brown paper bags (we spend less than $5 per gift).  Whoever won got to pick a bag.  It's all in great fun, and when we 'win' food, we open it and share with the whole table.  The men LOVE winning little flashlights and such (some bags are marked 'man' or 'woman') - and of course the cans of nuts are very popular, too. Whoever won calls the next game, too, so no one gets stuck calling all the time, or anything.  We have a blast!!  After a while, we stop and have snacks, and when all the gifts are gone, we heat the soup back up and have supper.  Then we played dominoes.  We only played double nines this time - NOT double fifteens (thank God!) - and the game went so quickly that we decided to play back up - we had played from the nines down to the blanks - to the nines.  We got back home around 10:30.

Yep, not a bad day at all.  Quite a fun day.  I'll take those any old time!
We did miss Corgan like crazy, of course, but we do need our adult time every once in a while, too.  He had trick-or-treating tonight at a campground near his home.  He, of course (this year), went out as Harry Potter.

I stayed under on my calories today, so I am giving today four stars for food.  I did snack like crazy all day - tried not to, but soon caved in.  Yes, I was weak.  But damn was it good!  No exercise at all to speak of, so zero there.  No surprise, right?
