First of all, let me apologize to each and every one of you. I have not been ignoring you, and I have not - NOT - given up on recording my thoughts on my weight and exercise, as well as happenings in our lives. It has been a very, very hectic few days - I knew the weekend would be, but I did not expect Thursday to have such a maniacal ending. Let me start there, if I can remember back that far...
Thursday started out just fine. Typical normal day for me. I met Lois to walk - we made our mile-and-a-quarter walk in thirty-three minutes again! How about that! We keep this up, we just might have to seriously talk about doing this twice a week. But with winter coming on, I just don't know. We shall see. Then, the day continued on pretty much normally. Home, pute, etc. Then, right around noon, I got a text from my sister that my brother-in-law has been taken to the hospital (he has been quite ill for ~oh, 2, 3 years. He has emphysema, and has been losing weight steadily (now down to 77 #) all summer long) with low oxygen in his blood and can't catch his breath, or take a deep breath). I tell her to let me know, keep me updated, etc. and go on with my day. There's not a whole lot I can do from here. Finally, around 4, she tells me that he has pneumonia and will be admitted - this is at Adams County Regional Medical Center, which is essentially around the corner from them. They live in Winchester. OK, good, this is getting taken care of, she got him where he needed to be, and in time. (He doesn't always tell her how bad he feels, so sometimes it's not easy to get him help quickly.) One of her daughters is also at the hospital with her, so that is good, also. It is always good to have someone with you in times like this, right?
About 9 or so, I asked my other sister if she had heard from our oldest sister, because she had not answered any of my texts all day, and I was starting to get worried - I wasn't so worried the first time, she was prob busy with hospital stuff, but after that? Come on... She quickly said back that she had just texted her and she answered that she had not received a text from me all day. What? Well.
After some back-and-forth, we find out that she is now at the hospital by herself, and that Rex has crashed sometime in the interim. Great. We decide we best go, because she doesn't need to be by herself. We both take off from our respective houses, getting to the hospital about 10 after 10. IF we had been five minutes later, we would have known nothing. They were taking him OUT of his room and air-caring him to Christ Hospital downtown!! O M G - Needless to say, everything was kinda chaotic and hectic. My youngest sister decided she had best go home - she doesn't do downtown (she doesn't really do hospitals very well, anyway), and to mix both downtown and a hospital in the night would NOT be a good thing. So, I drove our oldest sister down to Christ - it took us a bit longer than it took the helicopter - LOL. I'm NOT that good! Damn, is 32 ever a long road at 11 at night...
Then, I stayed with Ruth until 2 am, when her daughter was finally coming down and she sent me home. Literally, she sent me home so I could be there before Ron left for work. I finally got home right at 3:30. Man.
Since I already had a full day scheduled for Friday, I only slept until 11 that morning. I had moved things back a couple of hours - I had planned my day to start at 9, then drive to Winchester & pick Ruth up, both of us go to the Appalachian Festival for 3 hours or so, then back home before 3. That WAS my plan. That part went the way of the dodo, however. I still went over to Batavia and did my final weigh-in for my Biggest Loser contest, since I already knew I couldn't meet with them Friday night or Saturday morning. I knew that I had lost 14 pounds this go-round, but hadn't written down my beginning inches, so had no idea about my totals. I thought I might have a chance to win the percentage part of it this time - but, whatever. I knew -14 wasn't quite enough weight loss for that category win. Just so I was at the top of the pile this time - not middle of the pack. I won't know until Monday, probably. Then, I went back home since I was NOT driving back up to Winchester. I stopped at a couple stores and got a bit of shopping done, and got me a chicken-strawberry salad at Longhorn's for my lunch, too. I didn't get back home until 4! They were waiting there for me with Corgan when I got there because I had asked them to bring him up right after school because of a wedding we were going to tonight. A SURPRISE wedding - the groom does not know he is getting married! This is gonna be good!
Luckily, Ron gets home from work in time to get his shower, changed, and we take off in good time to be ON TIME to get where we need to go. I am so glad. It is so hard to make plans that his job does not throw a monkey wrench in to.
The wedding. The SURPRISE wedding. Yes, it worked. The groom was totally surprised, and has totally happy. Ecstatic, even. He has been wanting to get married for probably 2 years, and she's been putting him off. There was little doubt that he would not be thrilled with this, and it was all good. The whole family waited up front - at the 'altar' when he walked in, his bestie helped him put his tux vest on, (she had a 'I wanna marry you' song playing...), and HE walked up the aisle to THEM with a huge smile on his face. It was very touching. It was great. Then, they continued with the ceremony, complete with a shadowbox that they filled with sand - starting with the two of them putting in white for a base, then the kids each put in a color, then they topped it off with white again to seal it all in. That was so neat! A very cool way to 'blend' their family! I don't know how, or where, she found out about that little observance, but it was something else. It was all very romantic. I, of course, took lots of pictures of every step along the way. I had decided to make them a photo book as a wedding gift - what do you get a couple that is already a couple?
This morning, I had to get up at 7:30, because I had a TOPS rally to go to. I was being picked up at 10 til 8 and had to pack me a lunch before then! No time to hit snooze and piddle around, that's for sure...
So, luckily, I know what I want to pack and have it ready in no time and am waiting at the door when my ride pulls in the driveway. Off I go for the day...
Sorry to say, I was NOT thrilled with the rally. It was okay, but not something I would not choose to do again. A very dry way to spend the day, not the exciting speeches and enthusiastic talks and all that I was led to believe was the backbone of these rallies. This was the same woman speaking all day, kinda telling the same story in different ways. All morning. The chairs we were sitting in were SO hard, even though they were padded. My back started aching by 10. We finally broke for lunch, and got an hour for lunch. Hoo-damn-ray! We still sat in the same hard chairs, but we were in a different place, and at a table, and doing something with our hands this time. It helped a lot, I think. It was still over way too soon. After lunch was much better than the morning, because they gave away door prizes and drew raffle winners and DID have motivational speakers. It was MUCH better! Still, was very glad when it was over.
Got home in time for Josh to come up and pick Corgan up to take him back home. Poor Corgan - he didn't have to deal with Granny this weekend. First off, he got to play with a lot of other kids at the wedding and reception, then had Grandpa all to himself all day long. Oh, my. I don't know how he stood it.
Then, Ron got the garage shut down, came in, showered, changed and off we went to a Couples Dinner up at church for Sweetest Day - which is technically next Saturday, but we were 'celebrating' it tonight. It had a Mexican theme - food, decor, etc. - and a guest speaker, who was very interesting. They had nachos and blue corn chips with salsa and pepperoni & cheese cubes for appetizers. They played a couple of games. For starters, they taped names to our backs, we could only ask questions to be answered Yes or No, then try to figure out who we were, then find our 'mate.' It was a fun kind of icebreaker. After eating our meal - we could choose 'Mexican' or 'Not' LOL Not 'American' or something, just 'not Mexican' - too funny! Then the speaker, then a newlywed game-type game. I'm glad they didn't pick us as one of the couples - we played along at the table, and we kinda sucked. There were door prizes, also - stuffed chihuahuas. lol We had so much fun!
But, back home, then pute and bed. I am so ready for that tonight. I'm a bit tired. Imagine that.
