Doctor visits - so much fun!

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

I woke this morning around 10:30, sent Ron my usual morning text, and heard his phone go off out here in the living room.  "Great!" I thought.  "He left his phone home.  How can I remind him it's time to come home?" - and he walked into the bedroom!  WOW!!  So, not only did he remember, but he's already home!  That's wonderful! A little weird, but wonderful...
He came back out to watch TV, and I did my usual morning thing - play on the tablet and read - until noon, when I got up.  I did up the few dishes that were sitting there, put away the towels that were washed (and dried) yesterday, and took my shower.  Then I just vegged in my recliner until time to go.

Ron drove his truck uptown to park it in the town parking lot, because we would probably not get back until time for my TOPS meeting, and he's not gonna want to sit around and wait that long.  We went on down the road, getting to the doctor's right on time.
The appointments went very well.  My HbA1c was 7.8, which I thought was great, considering that both Thanksgiving and Christmas happened during the past 3 months.  True, it is a little higher than what is looked for (they want it under 7.0), but it sure beats it being over 8.0, which is where I was sure it was going to be!  My blood pressure, which has been running low enough to concern me, was also good today.  It was 122/70, which made me happy, too.  2 good numbers - hooray!  I also had a good talk with Doc about the stupid bits and pieces going on with my back.  He assured me that it will probably take at least a year for any residuals from the compression fracture to go completely away.  I told him that my concerns were down lower - more from the degenerated disc and the arthritis in my spine - but he said it all came from the fracture (and the fall), so I just have to give it time.  It's all connected somehow.  Ugh.  He did tell me that I can ease the pain of the arthritis on cold days with good ol' ibuprofen, and that's good to know.  We went on down the list I had, and he asked me about the results of the colonoscopy, too.  I love Doc!
Ron's blood pressure was excellent, too - 124/84 - which was very good news, too.  We've not been watching his sodium intake as closely as we probably should have been, so knowing that it's doing this good is a big relief.
It was a very good office visit, but we were both glad it was over with.  Me, I think, for the news, and Ron for the fact we had good weather for the drive.  (He's weird, you know.)

After the appointment, we went to Cracker Barrel to have a meal.  We decided to call it an early supper.  All I knew is that I was starving!  I had to fast before going to the doctor, because they were going to do the HbA1c, and the appointments weren't until 3:30 and 3:45, and that's a long, long time to fast.  I was ready to eat, and now.
He thought about trying something different, but finally fell back on his old favorite - pork chops.  He did mix up his sides, getting green beans, mashed potatoes, and PINTO beans.  That's my Ron!  I stuck to my favorite from the very beginning, even though I knew I was going to my TOPS meeting - and a weigh-in - afterward.  I got chicken-n-dumplings, green beans, and 2 sides of hashbrown casserole.  I suppose I could have gotten the dinner with only 2 sides, but, like I said, I was hungry - so I got the 3 sides, and I loaded up on the carbs.  Both of us also got biscuits with our meal, too.
We sat there and enjoyed every single bite.  Every. Single. Bite.

I got to my TOPS meeting and weighed in.  Yep, no surprise, I gained 4 pounds.  I can only hope that next week, I will lose those 4 pounds, plus more.  I will have to make sure that happens!
I got home from the meeting, and we spent the evening watching NCIS, NCIS:NO, and CSI: - our dead guys!  We like our Tuesday dead guys.  CSI: usually isn't on, that was a pleasant difference.

Tomorrow, I will be going up to church to help set up the Quarter Auction.  Hopefully, we can get a lot of the work done, so we won't have to rush, rush, rush on Saturday afternoon.
