A day totally out of whack

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Today started out all messed up!
They told us that Jean would be in the hospital observation room for at least 24 hours, so I was going to sleep until I woke up, then go up to the hospital, and sit with her until she was released and then take her on home.  She texted me at 9 - "I'm being released!" - and I had to go from being asleep to up, showered, dressed, check email (because of Carol's husband), and on the road as fast as possible.  I was pretty proud of myself for accomplishing all of this in less than half an hour!

She was waiting for me at the front door when I got there.  We dropped a prescription for pain meds off at her drugstore in Ripley, and then I got her home (I'm sure she was thinking, "Finally!  Home!")  After a bit, I ate a nut bar while she took a nap.  A little after noon, I tried to find me something to eat for lunch, but couldn't find anything there at their house.  No bread, no crackers, no nothing that I felt comfortable getting into.  Jean woke up about 12:30, and I told her about my search, and she went and looked.  "Well, here are the crackers."  They were 'around the corner' in the cabinet and I didn't look that deeply, or that far!  "Here's some bread..."  FOUR slices in the end of a loaf - I wasn't about to eat the end of their bread!  (and, I thought it was the end of a solid loaf, not slices, anyway...sigh)  But, since Jean found the crackers, we made peanut butter crackers for our lunch.  I made ten crackers for me, then she had the rest of the pack.  Not so bad, right?

About half an hour later, she says, "Let's go down and pick up my pain pills, okay?"  "Well, okay, but if we were gonna do that, we could have gotten us a nice hot lunch while we were out.  A hot lunch would have been much better."   Off we went to get her pain pills.  The doctor had also called another pain med in, too, so she had two pain meds.  We stopped at that little diner right there on 52 to get a hot lunch, too - MY choice - just because the day was a chilly with the rain and all.  I got me a bacon cheeseburger and fries, while she chose a bowl of soup.  We also had an order of fried mushrooms, too.  They just sounded good.

Josh had left work early to pick Corgan up from school, and he had gotten home and was worried when Jean wasn't there anywhere.  She had texted him earlier about something, so he knew she was supposed to be home.  As we were on our way back, we passed him walking to go get Corgan.
When Josh and Corgan got back, we all visited for a bit, then I took off for home.

It was such a beautiful drive home.  All the greens of grasses and trees, the yellows of forsythias and daffodils, and the purple of fields covered in wild violets were just beautiful.  I finally ran into rain just about a mile from home, right at the hills and curves where the tornadoes went through two years ago, and when it started, it started, and didn't stop.  We had thunderstorms the rest of the evening, and they got quite impressive at times.
I changed out of my clothes, because I was done for the day - I was beat!  Ron and I made hot dogs and rice-a-roni for our supper - yeah, I really blew it today - then, I got on the pute to catch up on everything, and that was that.  So I thought.

My cell phone rang just after 7:30.  "Are you coming to the Altar Society meeting?"  I heard.  Oh, no!  I had forgotten!  This is the first Wednesday of the month!  I remembered the other day - I typed up my treasurer's report, so I had it ready for the meeting.  "Yes, I'm coming - I'll be right up!" I told her, and ran to change back into my clothes, get my treasurer's box and get on the road once again.
I had to drive rather slow - it was still raining - but I made it, and we got the meeting going only twenty minutes or so late.

I got back home just after 9, changed again, and settled back down on the pute.  I am still trying to decide whether or not to do my shopping tomorrow or wait until Friday.  I'm really starting to want to stay home a day this week!

When I put my food into MFP today, I had enough calories for two days.  No kidding, I really did.  I was OVER by almost 1400.  Big sigh.

Tomorrow is another day.  It just might end up being a stay-at-home day, no matter how much I whine about those.  I'll have to decide when I get up.  Friday, I have Norm's funeral to go to.  So - we'll see.
