The alarm went off this morning at 9, but it didn't need to - I was awake. Thinking of my baby sister having surgery was on my mind, and I wasn't sleeping all that well.
I got up, got ready, got all my stuff together (even though I had done most of it last night), and hit the road right on schedule, at quarter til 10! Yay, me - for a change.
I sat in the hospital waiting room with Chelle until they called us back to sit with Jean until they took her into surgery, and then we sat there until the surgeon came out and talked to us. Damn, do the people turn TVs up awfully loud! And, yes, it was the people who came in and turned the TVs on and up, not the hospital employees. Then they got up and walked off, leaving them - and we walked over and turned them off (because we were the only ones sitting on that side of the room). Crazy people.
The surgeon came out and told us that everything went very well - "beautifully" was her word - and that there were no problems, and she foresaw no complications. Jean would be in recovery for about an hour, then would be taken to an 'observation' room (they didn't really admit her) for an overnight stay. Chelle and I decided to go up to Long John Silver's for a bite of lunch (it was after 1:30 by then) and I would come back to the hospital, and Chelle would go on home to get Corgan from school, then they would both come back and meet Josh here, after he done with work for the day.
At LJS, I chose the combo meal that had 1 fish & 1 chicken with fries (and hush puppies, but I don't eat them) and that was my lunch. I had taken tea from home (decaf) with me, and got tea (not decaf) with my lunch, and got a refill with a LOT of ice in it to go back to the hospital, so I was set with my drink, nice and cold, the rest of the day!
I found the room where she will be moved to, but she wasn't there yet. I had to wait in another waiting room until she got there. The TV was blaring there, too, even though no one was there - I quickly turned it down and then sat at the far end of the room. When they wheeled Jean past me, they were asking her if she had family here? She was saying 'a niece and a sister' and I piped up "and here's the sister!" The one nurse looked over and said, "Oh, yes, I can tell! You look alike!" Then she told me to give them about ten minutes or so to settle her, then come on back. That's what I did, then sat in there with her the rest of the afternoon.
She dozed off and on, and I just sat there and read, or played my DS. The nurses bustled in and out, doing what they do, too, and took good care of her. Chelle and Corgan showed up, and not long after that, Josh came in. Ron had gone on home, and then he called me just before 6. He had stopped at our friends' house, and she had to leave because of going to the TOPS meeting. When he said that, I gasped, and he said, "You forgot, didn't you?" And I had! I had forgotten all about going to my TOPS meeting tonight!
I left the hospital about ten minutes later, got home, ran inside for a pit stop and refreshed my drink, grabbed up my TOPS bag, and left again. I got up to the meeting and found out sad news. One of the ladies in our group lost her husband today. After their lunch, he went out to the garage, to mow the lawn, or some such, and a bit later, she realized that she hadn't heard the tractor start, and went out to find out what was going on and found him in the garage, already passed on. He did have a bad heart - as a matter of fact, had something scheduled for tomorrow! - but, damn. What a way to go.
Needless to say, we didn't have much of a meeting, and I got home early (after standing around talking in the parking lot!) and made my supper (my poor man's shit-on-a-shingle) before NCIS started. Yay, me! once again today!
When I put my food into MFP, I was 120 calories short for the day. I was glad - I thought the lunch at LJS had blown it! I had also had a nut bar and a small amount of walnuts while sitting there, too, so I was fretting a little. I was very satisfied with today's numbers!
I have to take Jean home from the hospital tomorrow, but hoping maybe I can get in some type of exercise once I get back home - IF it's not raining. We shall see.
