I got up this morning to still-extremely-painful feet. Usually my feet have forgiven me overnight, and are not so very sore the next morning when I get up, but today, they are are still some mean-ass barking dogs. Oh, they are letting me know that they are not happy with the way I treated them yesterday. Well, I got news for you tootsies - since I didn't get to go shopping yesterday, today is it! Buck up for the course.
I had a sort of mission today - I wanted to find Josh's chocolate Easter Bunny. I have always gotten him the ones the giant super-duper humongous ears. They were named "Bunny Big Ears" in the past, and then changed, but I never remember to what, but I know what they look like. They have either a small head or a small body - maybe 2 inches tall, then BOOM 10 or 11 inches worth of ears - and it's hollow chocolate. I've gotten this bunny for him for probably 20 years (he's 34 now), and it keeps getting harder and harder to find. It is IMPOSSIBLE to find this year. I am going to make a round of all the stores I know of - the ones I haven't been to yet - to see if I can find it. That's my mission.
I failed. As I did all my other errands, and all my other shopping, I went in and out of six different shops and stores in Bethel and Amelia, and nothing. No "Bunny Big Ears" or "Mr. EARristible" or anything like that. There were "Mr. Biggy Ears" and "Too Tall Bunny" who was as tall as his ears were, which isn't the same. I can't believe it. I finally had to admit defeat. I texted him and told him I can't find his chocolate bunny and he will have to get his own. Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh. Oh, how I hated that. What kind of mother can't find her child the chocolate bunny he wants?
My feet hurt too bad to do a proper WalMart Walk, but I figured all the walking in and out of all the other stores made up for it. And I have to go back to WalMart tomorrow, because I forgot some stuff that wasn't on my list but that we need. Bummer, right?
Not really, not for me, I like shopping, but I would have rather got it all done at one time. I did get all of Easter done (except bread for sandwiches, and Josh's bunny) and I was pretty proud of that fact!
I really don't want to be anywhere near a grocery store next weekend. It will be just as bad as Christmas Eve, and I can do without that stress.
I came home, got everything carried in and put away, and got to work making a dessert for tonight. We are going to friends' for supper, and I am making a pineapple upside-down cake as my offering. I've never made one before, so this will be interesting! It sounds easy enough, and we have had plenty of friends make them for Ron, so I don't know why I shouldn't be able to do this. I got the recipe out, and tweaked it here and there to make it mine, and soon the cake was in the oven.
As it was cooking, I got on the pute and played around. Soon the house started smelling yummy! When the cake was done, I followed the instructions on how to get it out of the pan, but (of course) some stuck and the cake was lumpy on the sides, but hopefully, no one else will notice, or they will have had that happen to them and it's no big deal.
I also had drifting cherries, and there were a couple of empty pineapples, and there were double cherries in other spots. I guess I had dumped the cake mix in to the pan too fast, and caused that to happen. Live and learn, chickie, live and learn. But it came out a beautiful golden color (and it tasted great) and that's what counts the most!
Ron got home - hallelujah - at twenty til six, and had time to jump in the shower real quick. I hadn't even had time to worry he wasn't going to get home in time yet! I wasn't going to think about it until quarter til! We left at five til, and got to our friends' place right at six. The other couple coming tonight was already there, so our little party was complete when we arrived.
We had a salad, salmon patties, a tuna noodle casserole, broccoli & cauliflower (together), corn, and some homemade bread (with butter, of course).
After we ate, we played dominoes for a while. We play double twelves, and start with the twelves and work our way down to the blanks as our starting numbers. We play the "Train" version of the game, and we have a great deal of fun! We took a break at the halfway point - between the sevens and the sixes - to have dessert, and everyone enjoyed the cake very much! At least, they said they did, and I'm going to believe them! We finished our game, which I (who was keeping score - what's wrong with this picture? Isn't scorekeeper supposed to win?) lost.
We then divvied up all the leftovers, and, yes, they all took/kept cake and I was glad to see that they wanted to have more of it. Ron and I came on home, and here it is midnight, which is when we usually get home on evenings like this. Poor guy lasted less than five minutes. He's snoring away over there in his recliner. I don't know why he didn't go right on to bed, but he didn't.
I put all my food (and exercise) in to MFP, and I was just 100 calories short for the day. Tis okay. I was proud of my pineapple upside-down cake, even if the sides weren't smooth and the cherries drifted!
Hopefully getting my hair cut tomorrow - it's getting very shaggy and starting to drive me crazy. I am having bed head when I get up in the mornings, and if you have bed head, your hair is too long!
Short hair is sure harder to maintain than long hair ever was!!
