A very successful doctor visit!

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Today started, as usual, with me waking and reading before getting up.  When I got up, I finished washing all the pans and got them ALL put away and now my kitchen looks like my kitchen again - hip, hip, hooray!

Ron got home from work around quarter til one, which was good, because I had just gotten out of the shower and hadn't had time to start getting worried yet.  We had doctor's appointments starting at 3:00, and so had to leave here by 2:00, but we are never sure if and when he is going to get to leave work.  Luckily, they didn't send him back out "one last time" at 11, so he managed to leave at noon and everything worked out fine, time-wise, but now we get to worry about him working on Saturday.
Neither he nor I ate lunch (me because of them checking my blood - I had to be fasting), and we got to the doctor's and got our appointments going.

Doc dealt with me first.  They had taken my blood, and my HbA1c came back at 7.0, which is the number that they want it at!  Perfect!  Hip, hip, hooray!  When he asked if I needed any refills on meds, I told him that I was out of the water pill, and what did he think about me stopping that pill?  I've lost all this weight, I'm not having a problem with my ankles swelling any more, and with my blood pressure always being on the low side (which worries me, but not them), and he said, "Okay, we can try that.  Why not?"  And - poof - just like that, I now only have to take 7 pills in the morning!  Hip, hip, hooray!
I asked him about the muscles in my back, and he thought the PT the ortho doc wants me to do is a good idea, so I guess I better call them and get that moving.  Blah.  I also had him clean the wax out of my left ear - he said the right ear was clear - because it closes over when I lay on my left side.  I was also informed that I NEED - no excuses any longer - a colonoscopy now, because I did a poop smear test and blood was discovered in/on it.  Double blah.  I guess we're going to have a wonderful vacation Thanksgiving week, cause Ron needs another one, too.  His last one was 6 years ago.  Keep up the good work (on the sugar numbers), and come back in 3 months

Ron's turn.  Blood pressure is great!!  It was 117/76 today.  Are you staying away from the table salt?  Yes.  Any problems?  No.  Any refills needed?  No.  Any questions?  Yes.  Did you find out if you are certified to do DOT physicals?  No, I'm not.  There are too many hoops to jump through to become certified and it's not worth it.  Damn.  Bummer  Any other questions?  No.  Okay, come back in 3 months.  Bye.
We make our December appointments, get the name of a colonoscopy doctor, and leave.

We go to Crackhead Barrel for a meal, even though it was a little early, but we figure late, late lunch or early supper.  We need to eat, we are hungry!  I had the chicken-n-dumplins with green beans and hashbrown casserole, while he had a mushroom-n-swiss thing with a sweet potato and a tomato, cucumber, and onion salad.  Oh, was it good, but it was chilly in there because they had the fans going at Warp 9, and everyone who had one was wearing their jacket or sweater in the dining room.  I don't know what that manager was thinking!

We came home, and an hour later I went to my TOPS meeting.  Not a surprise, my weigh-in didn't go well.  I gained 4 pounds - I knew I'd gain because of eating, but damn.  FOUR?  Something's got to give!  What am I doing wrong?  I guess I will start back with MFP, because that seems to keep me on track, even though I haven't changed my eating habits.  I just haven't been going there and tracking it.  I don't know.  I will call tomorrow and get my PT started, and maybe I just need to quit being a chickenshit and DO more exercise-wise.  Push my back into being a back again.
