I fell May 4th. If you go by the number on the calendar, it's been 4 months. Seems like a lot longer than that. (If you go by weeks, Sunday will be 18 weeks)
I woke this morning to the alarm going off. 9am. Ugh. I did hit snooze a couple of times, but then got up, got my shower, dried, lotioned, and dressed, and hit the road. I left 10 minutes earlier than I had planned, because Ron told me that there were traffic problems in Eastgate and I wanted to make sure I made it to the orthopedic doctor on time. Dammit, I want answers to my questions!
I was bad (to a degree) - I drove thru Dunkin Donuts to get an iced tea, and succumbed to the scent of the donuts. I got myself a filled and a glazed donut, and ate the filled donut on the way. Bad Rita!
I was very pleased with the office visit. The PA answered all my questions, and didn't act like I was bothering her. She did keep referring back to 'the second steroid shot' if there continued to be flare-ups or if I didn't improve further (to my satisfaction). She also, now - finally - recommended that I start Physical Therapy and build my core muscles. Well, okay, but why wait until now? Why was this not mentioned before, when Dr. Stupido said the fracture was healed and basically released me? Why did they wait until I came back to them with a notebook page and a half full of questions about my recovery and/or continuing care?
I have been doing exercises at home, and most of them are core building exercises, because that's all I can do right now - stretching-type exercises - not walking or the Wii or anything strenuous. I'm so confused about all this, but I suppose I'll go to PT at least once to see what they say, and then see if I can just do then at home, just as I have been doing. I do have the most trouble - or 'problem' - bending over, especially picking something up from all the way to the floor. I can do it, it just doesn't feel so good. The grabby (also known as The Grabby of Doom around here) sure has come in handy!
The best thing, though? I can stop wearing the brace, unless I feel that I need it for stabilization for whatever reason. I can stop wearing the brace!! Music to my ears!! I will probably still use the walking stick for now, but, oh, was I so glad to hear those words! I truly feel as though I am making steps in the right direction now! Not that I didn't before, but what a boost!
When I left the doctor's office, I treated myself to lunch at Longhorn. They have (in my opinion) just about the most perfect salad in the world, and I haven't had one in forever. It's the Chicken Strawberry Salad, and it's got strawberries, mandarin oranges, grapes, feta cheese, and red onions on a bed of mixed greens and topped with grilled chicken. It's supposed to have a raspberry vinaigrette, but I don't get that - I get ranch on the side and dip my fork into it with most every bite. It is super delicious!! I really enjoyed it!
I stopped at my friend Teresa's on my way home and we had a nice visit. I only stayed a half hour or so, but I haven't seen her in a while, so it was good to actually see her! We made tentative plans for next week.
Home. I called the insurance to make sure what, exactly, is covered when it comes to PT, then I played on the pute for a little, eating the glazed donut, then went and laid down to read (and rest my back) and ended up falling asleep! Ron came home while I was sleeping, but he didn't wake me up. Crazy man! I woke up about ~oh, 45 minutes, an hour later, and I guess he heard me, walked into the bedroom and scared me! We talked a little bit, then I got up, ran uptown to make the deposit, and came back to figure out supper. We ended up making cheese weenies and Ron sliced/chunked up tomatoes for us to go with them.
So, I'm thinking I ate pretty good today. I did have the donuts, but I just had the salad for lunch - well, okay, there was a half-loaf, or 3 (2-1/2) slices, of their bread. I did forget about that until now. And 3 cheese weenies and tomatoes for supper. Lots and lots of fruits and veggies! Much more than most days, that's for sure, and that's a good thing.
Now -- ARE YOU READY? -- football is on!! The new season is here! Yay! Yay! Yay!
My day has been, and is, a happy one.
