9/14
Just a normal Sunday here. Yay! Church, lunch, football. Our friend Bryan, who worked his ass off yesterday getting our pipes, leaks, drains, clogs, and all that done came over to watch football with me. Ron did stay in the room, so I guess I should say with us...sigh.
After church, we went down to Amelia for our lunch. We had driven Ron's truck just for this reason, so he could get his gasoline for the week at a decent price, then we went to Bob Evans, and we both ended up getting breakfast! He got the Homestead breakfast, and I got the Sunshine Skillet.
We hustled home, even stopping at IGA for a case of water, bananas, and ice, and made it home in time for kickoff! I was impressed with us!
We get home, Ron goes to pick Bryan up, and we all settle in for a day of football, which was a fantastic day. My Bengals won, and Bryan had a great time, having someone to watch football with. He said that he usually has to watch by himself, and that's not fun at all, and I know what he means. But I'm glad he enjoyed it, and I'm glad we could repay him just a little for working so hard yesterday somehow. Ron took him home a little after 7 or so, and Ron said he just went on and on all the way home about how great his day was. Made me feel real good!
Silly me, I was feeling a bit tired, and I thought the night game was a wrap, so I went to bed at halftime. I found out my later that I made a BIG mistake. The second half was a big turn-around, and the other team came back and won! Ha! Guess who won't make that mistake again?
9/15
I woke up today before 9. Before 9! I'd think it was because I went to bed a little early last night, but I read until after midnight, so I didn't go to sleep any earlier. I must have actually slept good. Deep, even. I don't remember dreaming until after Ron left, so that tells its own story, right?
After waking, I read for an hour or so, then I got up and started in on my Happy Homemaker Day. Not only is it the normal do-dishes-laundry stuff, it's put-the-kitchen-back-together stuff, too, and man, what a pain in the ass that is! But, let me tell you, when I pulled the plug in the sink (the first time) when the water got cold, that water was GONE, lickety-split! Like, slurrrrrp, it was gone. Right. Now. It was amazing!
I mopped the kitchen floor right in front of the sink, stove, and fridge, then I ate my lunch - chicken salad and a banana - while I played on the pute. I started a load of towels. I had changed my bathroom over to Fall (did I remember to tell you that?) and this load of towels included the 'old' shower curtain and rug from the bathroom, and I also threw the rug from in front of the kitchen sink in there, too. So there was a pretty full load for a change. I usually don't fill it so full, because it takes so long for them to dry. But I don't dry the shower curtain, and I take the rugs out after one go-round (because of the rubber backs) in the dryer, so even though the washer was full, the dryer would be okay. I hoped. I spread the shower curtain over the washer (back, lid) and dryer so it could dry and I could get it folded and put away - yes, I do that! - sooner rather than later.
After playing on the pute for a bit, I did another load of dishes after the floor had dried, then went and layed in the bed for half an hour or so. I finished the book I was reading, so I got back up. I did my exercise repertoire, then played Wheel of Fortune on the Wii. I played 3 games, winning all 3 and winning the bonus round of 2 of them, also! Too bad I can't really collect that moola!
I did a third load of dishes after that, and was in the middle of those pans when Ron got home. Since we had somewhere to go, he got his shave and shower while I boiled hot dogs for our supper. We made our sandwiches (I took the crusts off my breads) and hit the road.
We were going down to Amelia to a friend's visitation. Ron went to school with this friend, Ron May, and he was one of the Rons in the car the night Debbie and I met "Ron, Ron, Ron, and Don." Yes, he was only our age, and this is such a great loss. It was very hard to go through this tonight. Not only because he was a good friend, but also because he was OUR age. It makes mortality start to bite you in the ass, and you to feel it! We also saw many people we haven't seen for a lot of years, and it was funny (strange funny, not ha-ha funny) how many immediately recognized Ron but not me! It seems Ron never changes! Even Valerie, Ron's wife, didn't recognize me, and I just waved my arms toward Ron, and she says, "Oh, my God! Ronnie!" All I could do was laugh and shake my head. After all, I have cut my hair and lost some weight...
My friend Debbie (she is married to Ron's twin Don) and I spent the evening together and it was great to catch up with her, but, man, has she had it rough. She has had a second heart attack, and she now has five stents in her heart. She has 3 grandchildren now, too.
We ended up staying until the end, which surprised me. I didn't think Ron would want to stay that long, but I guess once you get there, it's a little different than what you are thinking before you go. He was tired, and he looked tired, but it was a stressful evening, and I think people took his tiredness for that - stress and grief - and maybe a little tiredness, because he did tell them he came from work.
I don't know, maybe I'm just a little weird about this type of thing, but I just could not believe the people who showed up in raggedy-ass dirty blue jeans and skanky T-Shirts - as in faded, torn, and ready-for-the-ragbag - and nobody batted an eye. I see this at just about every visitation/funeral I go to, and I just think this is SO disrespectful to the dead (person), even if they wouldn't care, even if that's how they dressed, that it just boils my blood.
You don't even think enough of (me) to put on some clean clothes? Or what? I suppose I should just appreciate that they are there, but -- gag -- come on! Show some respect. <okay, off my soapbox>
More clean-up tomorrow - I've got to get these dishes put away, and the rest finished.
Then, Ron and I both have doctor appointments. His blood pressure check and my sugar check. I've got questions for doc about my back, too, and I want him to clean out my ears. Whee!
