Valentine's Day, 2014

Happy Valentine's Day and lots of love to you all!

Before I went to bed last night, I tucked Ron's V-Day gift into his work bag.  I got him one of those Peach Pies that he really likes, but had to give up because of the sodium count - there's over 500 mgs of sodium in one of those suckers! - but, hey!  He had found it once he was at work, and after I texted him that I was up, he called me to tell me he found it (and that he had checked the sodium count again) and that he was happy with that surprise.

I had woken up this morning not really planning to do anything.  It was just after 10, and I read until about 11:30, finishing the book and putting it in my give-to-Ruth pile.  Then, I got to thinking - it's supposed to snow again this afternoon, starting around 2.  Maybe I'd best go and get my weekly shopping done, because Ron sure isn't going to want to go shopping tomorrow morning.  So, I get dressed and head on down the road.    Lo and behold, it starts snowing just as I get to WalMart!  What?  It's nowhere near 2 yet!  Oh, well.  Who believes the weatherman 100% anyway?  Not me!

I go in, get my WalMart Walk in, and then decide to get some lunch at Bob Evans.  I was feeling not quite peckish, but like I had best eat pretty darn soon, and so I enjoyed the half-sandwich combo (the turkey sandwich and potato soup) and took my time eating my lunch and reading my book.  There was no hurry, as the snow had stopped as I was sitting there.

I finally headed home, got the car unloaded and all.  Ron called me a little later to say they are sending him out one last time - 3 pm on a Friday, imagine that - so I get in touch with the family in Ripley, and we arrange for me to get Corgan, instead of waiting for Ron to get done with work.  So, off I went again, up to Georgetown this time.  Corgan and I got back here with no trouble.  We even stopped to take a picture of the waterfall just outside of Georgetown - it was frozen solid today!  It was very pretty in a funky way.

After we got back home, the snow started again and has not stopped since, so I'm sure it is a mess out there (if you are out, please be careful!) and I doubt we will go anywhere tomorrow, until time to take Corgan home, as arranged.

When Ron got home from work, after six (of course), he walked in and placed a rose in front of me.  Oh!  I had told him that I wanted Butter Pecan ice cream this year - we are trying very hard to be good.  He walked on out into the kitchen and I thought 'Well, okay.  I can handle getting a rose.'  "That's not Butter Pecan ice cream," I tell him, hoping he can hear the smile in my voice.  "Yeah, well," he says, as he walks back into the living room and puts a cellophane wrapped box of chocolates that has a balloon sticking out of the top in front of me, too!  Ron!!  "That's still not Butter Pecan ice cream," I tell him again.  "Yeah, well," he says again as he also puts a giant Special Dark bar down in front of me.  I am just looking at him and shaking my head.  "You love this stuff," he says.  "And I love you," I reply.  He also gives Corgan a box of Gummy Bears.  He is one crazy man.

I really hated to kill the beautiful mood of the evening, but I had to, because we had some business that needed to be taken care of, and taken care of quickly:
I had got the mail in and had gone through it, put the bills to the side and opened the other stuff, as usual.  Ron got an interesting-looking letter, so I checked it out.  Get this - HIS LICENSE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED!!!!!   Yeah.  Remember when his truck slid off Hoover Road, back in December?  He got a failure-to-control ticket and all that?  Well, he DID NOT show up in court on December 30th, so they suspended his license, as of February 12th (2 days ago already!!).  Well, no shit, sherlock - he didn't show up because we PAID the ticket!!  I didn't know what to do.  I had to wait til he got home (and trust me, I prayed and prayed hard that he wouldn't get pulled over on his way home!) to tell him about it, so we could figure out what to do.  There was a phone number on the letter, so we called that number and told them that we paid the ticket and had the receipt.  Well, according to "them," the lady said, he did not pay the ticket, and that was why this happened.  I assured her we had paid, and told her for about the tenth time that we had the receipt, and she said let her check something else and put me on hold and went away.  She finally came back and said that they found that he HAD paid it, that some numbers were transposed, and they would put a paper in his file and blah blah blah.  I asked her if he would be able to work on Monday, since he works at Rumpke and drives for a living.  She didn't know what to say (surprise) and finally stumbled over telling me that they would fax it to the DMV right away, and for me to call them in the morning and find out what had/has happened with it.  We can get a copy of this paper they are putting in his file, also, if we want it.
WHAT A MESS!!!
God only knows what kind of bullshit Rumpke will put Ron through to get this settled.  We can only hope that they will let him use vacation days to clear this up.  (oh - and remember - Monday is a holiday, too.)

Meanwhile, while I am on the phone, Ron made supper for us.  Well, for me and him.  Corgan zapped some sausage biscuits for himself.  Ron made us some hamburgers, and made himself a can of low-sodium corn.  I had veggies left over from yesterday, as well as some of the Puffcorn that was left.  Puffcorn is kernel-less (hull-less) popcorn, and I had the cheesy kind!  Corgan finished off the bag after I got my serving out of it.

So, the evening ended okay, but I, for one, am very glad that Ron did NOT check his blood pressure tonight!

When I put my food into MFP, I ended up about 600 calories short for the day, but I had Valentine candy and Puffcorn and stuff, as well as all the veggies (which are relatively calorie-free), so I am pretty sure I was really over for the day.  But - it is what it is, right?  I'll take it!

I filed our taxes tonight, too.  Whee!  After receiving our state refund and paying our federal, we'll end up with approximately $60.00 for ourselves.  Yep.  We live right.
