Errands, errands, and more good errands

Sunday, August 24, 2014

Today started with the alarm going off at 9.  Getting up, taking a shower and dressing for church, then off to church after gathering all we needed to do 5 different errands afterward.  I'm tired just thinking about it!  I'm glad Ron drives on Sundays, too.  I'm mean that way, you know...
We had one of the priests we used to have for our visiting priest today, and it was very nice to see him again.  I haven't seen Fr. Kosse in a long time, and he looked great (he fell out of a deer stand while hunting a few years ago, and was pretty seriously hurt).  He certainly gives a great homily - I have missed that, and some of these visiting priests have picked up that slack!

Afterward, we headed down the road to do our errands.  1) Stop at Post Office.  2)  Stop at Kate's Carry Out.  3)  Go to Verizon to pay our bill.  4)  Eat lunch somewhere.  5)  Stop at Bert's.
Luckily, the Post Office stop is basically a drive-by, just to drop mail in the mail box out at the curb.  Ron and/or Corgan was supposed to put this mail in our mailbox yesterday, but fell down on that job, so Ron had to drive this huge detour...
I dropped off the books I was dropping off at Kate's, and - again, luckily - I wasn't held up with talking (by both Diane AND Mary!) this time!  Back on the road...
We get down to Verizon, after dealing with the traffic down there in Beechmont.  Man, it just gets worse and worse, I think.  We didn't get over in the slow lane until we passed both 275 exits (do you really have to ask why?) and it took quite a few minutes of sitting there with the blinker on before someone let us over, in front of Home Depot.  Ah, well, what goes around comes around, people!
When I was done in Verizon, we decided to go to Olive Garden, which is truly 'right across the street' - but how are we going to cross 125 right there?  Ron turned right, and got into the left lane, then the left turn lane, and pulled a U-ey under the green light (yes, there was a break in the traffic) and we got turned right around and got to Olive Garden in no time at all.

We sat and enjoyed our lunch, taking the time to choose what we wanted and to savor the breadsticks (I was sooooooo bad!).   Ron had the Chicken Toscano, and I had the 5-Cheese Ziti Al Forno, and they were both pretty darn good!  With the salad and more breadsticks, we didn't get out of there until almost 2.  Oh, it was such a change from what we usually do - and have - on Sundays, it was just absolutely great!  We ate all of our meals, but I did carry out the last 2 breadsticks wrapped in a napkin, instead of letting them go to waste.
I called Bert and let her know that we were on our way, so she could get the stuff we're picking up ready, and we (finally) got there.  I don't think the traffic slowed down any while we were in Olive Garden - it was just as heavy, especially around 275.  I think I'm glad we don't go that far down the road very often!
We stopped at Bert's, went in and visited with her and her mom for a few minutes, then got the stuff we were picking up and left.
Whew.

We got home, and Ron changed his clothes.  We left again, going up to our friends Harry & Donna's to pick green beans out of their garden.  Fresh garden green beans!  YUM.  I got to sit in the house and visit with Donna while the guys went out into the hotness to pick the beans, and I must admit that I was glad.  Donna's cousin came down, bringing orange tomatoes with him from his garden, and Donna told him about the guys outside.  He went out with them, then came in to get a bag to pick some apples from a tree in their neighbor's yard.
So, in the end, we came home with a full - stuffed full - box of green beans, the orange tomatoes from Jerry, cherry tomatoes from Harry & Donna, too, and then a 5-gallon bucket of apples, too.  I think I may be busy for the next couple of days!

After laying down for a bit, I came out here to the pute, and like an idiot, I put my food in MFP.  Yeah, I didn't get hollered at today - I hollered at the pute!  I knew it would be bad, and it was.  I was only 700+ calories over for the day.  Those 6 damn breadsticks!  But, I guess you gotta take the bad with the good, so I claimed them, but geez...

Looking forward to a big ol' pot of green beans and some apple pie here pretty soon!
