Getting the house ready for Sunday (and it wasn't easy, either...)

Thursday, January 30, 2014

First of all, I must start out by saying a very 'Happy Birthday' to my sister Ruth.  She has had a very hard last six months, as well as a very tough winter. I, for one, am very glad she has made it to this point.

I had to get up this morning at 4 to take Ron to work, so I could drive my car back home, just in case I decided to go uptown this afternoon.  It was vaguely in my mind to do that, but it all depended on what time I got up and got things done.  As it was, I didn't get back up until noon (mainly because I didn't get back to sleep until after 6) and, thus, slept later than I thought I would.
When I got up, I got my lunch (I was hungry as soon as I got up for a change!), got my games on the pute caught up, and then got OFF of the pute - no playing around - and got started on the house.
Ugh.  I hate housework.

I worked and worked, and then worked some more.  I got the bathroom totally done. Unfortunately, while I was cleaning the bathroom, I broke the cover to the nightlight in the bathroom (a Virgin Mary, with folded praying hands).  I got the whole 'back' half of the living room done - behind Ron's chair, beside and around my desk and all that.  Oh, my God, do we have a lot of crap!  What I didn't know what to do with, I put into a basket for Ron to sort when he got home.  I spent a LOT of time walking back and forth between rooms putting this or that here or there, and then I'd find something else and have to do the same thing again.  It was something else.  But, it's done now.  I kept at it all afternoon, not taking a break or anything until 6, when Ron called to say he was on his way home.  I didn't want him to 'catch' me doing this - I wanted to see if Mr. Observant noticed any difference.

He came in.  His truck had not given him one bit of trouble on his way home.  Yay!  I'm not as dumb as I look - I had told him I thought it was mostly because of the cold - and that seems to be what it was.  I don't understand why it was his truck, which is used every day, and not my car, which isn't used as often, but it was.  Maybe it was/is because of where and how they are parked in the driveway?  Maybe because one is a truck, and one is a car?  I don't know.  I am still convinced it was just too damn cold.  But I am glad it was just ONE of our vehicles!

He gave me a Subway sandwich that he had stopped and got me for my supper.  How cool is that?  A seafood/crab sandwich!  I haven't had one of these in forever!  It was mmmmm-mwah (kisses fingertips) delicious!  He made himself one of his frozen Chinese things.

As he took his shower, Ron noticed the broken nightlight and asked me about it, and I brushed it off with "Oh, I just touched it and it just broke."  He didn't say anything else.

As he was carrying his used bowl back out into the kitchen, he says, "You know, we need to start getting this house cleaned up and ready for Sunday."  I just looked at him and smiled and said, "OK, Mr. Observant."  He looks at me and says, "What?"  I shook my head and asked, "How do you think I broke the nightlight in the bathroom?"  I flung my arm out. "And in here.  I knew you wouldn't notice."  He kinda looked around, then even walked to the end of my desk, then grunted and didn't say another word.  Not. Another. Word.   He went in the bedroom, got his clothes and socks (yes, he ate his supper naked), got dressed, then watched TV through his eyelids.  Typical normal Thursday night.

Why do I let it hurt so much that he didn't notice my cleaning efforts when I KNEW that he wouldn't notice?

When I put my food (and exercise - yes, cleaning is an exercise) into MFP, I was over on calories for the day.  By 2.  TWO.  I was also over on fats, by 45.  Those are the only two categories, though!!  I call that a very successful day, diet-wise!!

Tomorrow, I must run down to Amelia for prescriptions, shopping, and picking up donations.  Then back home for cleaning more of the house.  I am happy with what I did today, and even if I don't do any more, I'm okay with the way it looks.  I've also got to bake cookies!  WhooHoo!  Full day planned.
