A snow day! Not as early as predicted, but finally...

Friday, December 6, 2013

We were supposed to wake up with the White Death upon us this morning, but - guess what? - when I pulled the blinds open at 9:30 when I got up, it was all green.  Not a speck of white anywhere.  Phooey.  Oh, well.  Who believes the weatherman anyway?

I decided to go ahead and run down to Kroger and get Ron's tonic water since I could and was I surprised when I got out to the car.  It was covered in ICE!!  After a few minutes running, though, the windshield was clear enough to drive and off I went.  Evidently I wasn't the only one with that kind of idea, though.  The parking lots of most every store I passed were pretty full.  I got what I needed and got back home.  I sure didn't want to get caught out and about if and when it did decide to start - not if I didn't really need to be out there, and I didn't.  I got back home, and kept going to the door and looking out but never saw anything happening.  I did see that the top of the creche was getting white, but nothing else.  Nowhere.  All afternoon, it seemed like. I did eat some lunch (chicken salad, walnuts, and a turnip) around one and played on the pute to keep my mind occupied (hey, any excuse, right?)  I finally thought I'd best go out and get the mail.  So I slipped on my shoes and toddled on out.  WHOA!!  Icy, sleety stuff everywhere.  Slicker than snot.  I couldn't believe it!  I couldn't SEE it, but boy, was it there.  Not snow, but something!  Wow.
Great.
The worrying starts.
I don't remember what time it was, probably around 2:30 when the snow finally started falling.  When it started, it started, too.  Man!  It sure was pretty, but you could tell it was gonna be a nice covering before it was done.  Ron called and said that 32 was really, really bad and he'd seen many wrecks.

Ron calls at 3:10 to say that he is starting home.  OK, I can do this.  I am playing on the pute - I just won't think about it (too much).  I sure will pray a lot, though.
He finally gets home at 4:12.  Yes, I looked when he pulled in the driveway.  Over an hour for a normally twenty-minute drive. Whee.
OK, he's home.  Now most of the worrying is for my son, who has to drive from Amelia to Ripley, and he doesn't leave work until 4:30.  I have already texted him to tell him to leave early if he can, and he replied that he is out making deliveries (at the time he was in Blue Ash).  Yeah, great.  He didn't even get back to his work until almost time to come home, then he still had paperwork and all....sigh.
I will also be thinking of the many friends I have that will be out on the roads, trying to get home, too, but, of course, the biggest, worries are my husband and my son.  One down, one to go...
I tell Ron that Josh is still at work, and he starts pacing the house.  He sits and watches TV a bit, then paces, then sits, then paces, then looks out the door, then....you get the picture.
We didn't even plug in the Christmas lights and didn't realize it until we get a text from Josh asking "no Christmas lights?"  We are too busy talking about why is he on 133, which he KNOWS they don't treat, instead of going up 125 and down 68, which is a pretty straight shot?  Not so many hills and curves and much better taken care of.  We thought that was his usual route!  And what the hell was he doing texting while driving in this stuff?  But, we got the lights plugged in and now are doubly worried cause now he's going down 133 hill.  Crud.  Soon he texts that there is a semi that can't get UP the 133 hill and has the road blocked - he had to back up it a little way.  He would wait a little bit and then make some sort of decision what to do.  I told him it's just gonna get worse the longer he sits there.  About 15 minutes later, I texted him "any news?" and he said he turned around and is heading down 222 (a waaay worse hill than 133!) rather than sit there.  Oh, my.
A bazillion years later (really only about 20 minutes) he texted - I am hoping that he was sitting at the stop sign - that he made it to 52.  That's great - 52 is a flat road, and while he will have to go slow, it will be a much better drive.  One less worry.
40 minutes later, he is home.  I have also gotten notifications - on my cell, on FB - that others have gotten home, too, so my worries have eased and I can enjoy my evening now.
After a bit, Ron and I start looking for some supper.  He is going to zap a frozen thing and have veggies, but I want hot food.  I settle for chicken noodle soup and a grilled cheese sandwich - made with three slices of Colby Jack cheese - and it was DE-licious!  I haven't had one of those in a long time, and I enjoyed every bite.

I played on the pute some more, and we watched Christmas love movies.  We had a great snow night!

When I put my food into MFP, I was over 200 short for the day!  Yay, me
Food is getting five stars, and exercise, once again, not a darn thing.
