I am still feeling that sense of accomplishment...

Friday, December 20, 2013

Today, when I got up just after nine, I called my friend Bert so she could start the phone calling and all she needed to do to get her car towed this morning.  I was afraid to start anything at home - dishes, laundry, wrap gifts, make goodies, or whatnot, because if Bert called back, I'd have to leave and didn't want to leave something half done.  So, I just played on the pute. When it was going on noon, she hadn't called me back and I was starting to get worried - AAA doesn't usually take quite that long, so I called her back.  Ha!  She was just getting up!  She stayed up late last night (she does that - she 'sleeps' about like I do) and when I called her earlier, I hadn't noticed that she wasn't awake when she spoke to me.  Anyway, things were just now getting going.  Whew, I was glad.  I mean, it wasn't like it was a cold, icy, or snowy morning or something and they were going to be busier than busy.  I could not figure out why it was taking them so long, but now I knew, and it was a big relief to know that.
She called back just a few minutes later, so I finished getting dressed and took off.  We got down to her car, and the 'tow truck' driver was in a little pickup truck.  He had been told that this call was for a jumpstart!  Great.  Now Bert has to call AAA back and put in a request for a tow - which is what she did the first time, but that's NOT what came through - and we have to sit there and wait for the 'tow truck' driver to really come back in a tow truck.  What a total waste of time!  I did run back down to WalMart and put gasoline in my car ($2.98!!) while we were waiting, which helped kill some of the time, but geez.  We still sat there for over an hour waiting for him to get back.  Sigh.

After her car was safely on the tow truck, it was after two.  I had not eaten yet, of course, so I told Bert that I really needed to go get some lunch.  We decided to go to Gold Star in Bethel, where I had my usual 5-way and a cheese coney.
As a side story, something else was going on also - I had a message to, for, and from Ruth about MultiColor and this job she's hopefully getting.  She got an email with an attachment (the MultiColor application) that she could not open at the library, and she had forwarded it to me to try to open for her.  After opening the email, I had to print the application, then Ruth has to fill it out, then I have to scan it and send it back to them for her.  No big deal, right?  Well, remember - Ruth lives in Winchester!  36 miles away from me.  So, how am I going to do this, while I'm rescuing Bert today?  I can't go in two directions at the same time.  I just can't, no matter how hard I try.  Ruth's phone can receive and send texts - although it takes a little while - but I didn't know that until I went up there the other day.  So we texted this morning to figure out a plan for today.  She finally said that she would come up with gas money somehow and come here, to my house.  I told her that I should be back from Bert's rescue by the time she gets here.
Well, obviously, I wasn't.  I had her meet us up at Gold Star instead of my house.  Wasted a bit of her gasoline, but I couldn't help that in the end.  As we sat in Gold Star, she filled out the application, and I will do the scan and send back.
So - does that count as two rescues today?  Even though Ruth had to drive here?  Maybe a rescue and a half?  I don't know, but I did get both of those things accomplished.

Ron got home from work before I got home from taking Bert home.  We both had errands here in Bethel, so after our late lunch - and sitting and playing with Ruth's grandkids - it took another hour before I got Bert home.  I surprised Bert with a plate of Christmas goodies when she got out of the car to go in.  I love the look on people's faces when I do that!
I spent the early evening wrapping all the Christmas gifts all over the kitchen table.  I was glad to get that job over with.  I don't know why, I do enjoy the wrapping and all.  I was just so ready to be done with this batch for some reason.  I guess because I knew finishing up would make me be done!  And it is true - I am done!  I just have the goodies to finish up tomorrow, and then - TA DA - totally finished!!
A little after 8, Ron made our supper.  I don't know what he made for himself, but he made me a peanut butter sandwich.  Yum.  That was it.  Just chunky peanut butter.  No munchies, no nothing.

When I put my food into MFP, I was almost 300 short for the day.  I guess I like that number, I seem to hit it an awful lot.  I really should look into changing it.

Today is getting five stars for everything.  Food - excellent.  Exercise - running to and from the car doing all the errands, yep.  My hip tells me I got some walking in!
Accomplishments - YES!!  I know that I did accomplish at least four things today!
