One Christmas party under my belt!

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Today was a strange day for December.  We had temps in the 60s!  SIXTIES!  But, never fear, tomorrow, temps will drop all day, and by noon Friday, the snow is supposed to be flying, not stopping until we have at least 4 inches.  Yep, winter in Ohio.

I woke up around 9, quarter after.  I laid in bed and read until right around 10, then got up, got a shower, then went uptown, went to the library and finished printing all the things I forgot to yesterday.  Then, I stopped at the store and got the goodies for the party tonight - I knew I was making salami roll-ups, but had not decided on my second side dish.  As I was walking through the store,  I was thinking and thinking - I figured there would be plenty of desserts, so that was out, and plenty of potato dishes or macaroni/pasta things, so I didn't want to do one of those, so that kept narrowing the field.  I didn't want to make a vegetable tray, because I was already making one appetizer, but something kinda healthy.  Well, that leaves a side dish but what?  I finally decided to just buy a jar of applesauce, because if there was some left, I could bring it back home for Ron.  So, I made my purchases and came home.  I found a nice bowl to pour the applesauce into (at the party), got a small rammekin to put some cinnamon in - some people like that on their applesauce - to put beside the bowl on the serving table, and - POOF - my second dish!  I got the salami roll-ups done, and I am ready for the party.  Food-wise, anyway.  Still have a while to go before time to get dressed!

When I got done making the food (yes, I quality-controlled TWO of the salami roll-ups), I made my lunch.  I had a turnip, a banana, and 2 servings of flat-ass pretzels.  Then I played on the pute for a while while I did the load of towels I didn't yesterday.  When they were done, or on the last go-round in the dryer, I went and took a teeny nap.  Yes, just a teeny one - about 45 minutes.  I set my alarm, but was back awake before it went off.

As I was getting ready to leave, Ron texted me that he was on his way home, so I did get to see him for a few minutes before leaving, which was good.  I do like to see him, you know.
I got up to the Center to help set up before people started showing up, but not quite as early as I wanted to get there (because of Ron, it's all his fault!) but still able to help.  At 7, we had the appetizers (I had two salami roll-ups, two strawberries, & a chicken-spread cracker) and at 7:30, we had our Dinner.  I thought I did pretty well.  I had two chicken legs, a half spoon of a sweet potato dish, about a half cup of potato salad, same of applesauce with a sprinkle of cinnamon, a couple of slices of baked apples, maybe 3/4 cup of green beans, and some au gratin potatoes.  I did eat a cookie for dessert.  Just one.

Then we got into the party itself.  My games went over pretty well.  The first one, which I thought was going to be extremely easy, was met with many, many groans and did NOT go over very well.  It was trivia questions about the Christmas cartoons we all have seen a bazillion times - Charlie Brown, Grinch, Frosty, and Rudolph.  Only 5 questions each, a total of 20 questions, and man! you should have heard those women!  I started by giving them 10 minutes and had to cut it short becuase they complained so much!  If I remember correctly, the winning woman only had 8 correct.  Oh, my, was I surprised!
The second one was a little better - Christmas Songs, Third Verse.  At first, they groaned and stuff, but soon they were trying to sing and stuff and it became fun.  The woman who won got 10 of the 12 correct.
Our third game was a Purse Scavenger Hunt - there were 20 items on my list, and I had the women get in teams in groups of 4, and the team with the most items was the winner.  And, of course, don't you know it, there was a tie.  Not just a tie, a 4-way tie!  I had to come up with a last item to break the tie....man, was that rough.  But, I did it.  Whew...
Then we had the gift exchange, and handed out the door prizes, and the party was over.  Everyone gathered up their goodies and their emptied dishes, and whatever they were taking home with them and headed on out.  I helped clean up and came on home.

Ron had waited up for me, but went to bed not long after I got here.  I got on the pute long enough to do this (no myfitnesspal!), then I'm going to bed, because I have to get up in the morning.  I'm meeting my sister!

My back is killing me.  Standing for 2 1/2 - 3 hours is NOT a good idea.
Food will get four stars today, and nothing, once again, for exercise.
