12/24/13 Christmas Eve
Ron was off work today. I don't remember the last time he was off work on Christmas Eve - probably never, or not since he's worked at Rumpke, anyway. It was a great pleasure having him home!
We slept in that morning, and when we got up, I took a bath - yes, a bath - and shaved my legs. I admit that I don't do this very often in the wintertime, but just before Christmas is one of those times, and we ARE going to a wedding on Saturday and I'll probably wear a dress then. So...it was time.
When my friend Bert was cutting my hair yesterday, I reminded her that she is always invited to share Christmas with us, and she said that she might actually come this time. I was stunned! She usually just says 'okay' and that's that. I told her that I need to know as early as possible, so Josh could stop and pick her up on his way home from work, and he would get off of work early today. So, she called me this morning, and said that decided that she WOULD come and join us! Yay! She's coming!
Josh was going to pick Bert up to bring to us, so we could all drive down to his house later. Not long after he dropped her off, we loaded up the car and took off. Time for Christmas to start! We get to Josh's. First of all, we do our weigh-ins. We decided back in July to have a Biggest Loser contest that would end on Christmas Eve and we would each buy a $20 instant lottery ticket and whoever lost the most weight would win all the lottery tickets. Josh lost 6 pounds, Jean lost 8, Ron 12, Chelle 14 and me 23! So I won! Yay, me! I scratched off the tickets and I won $150. on 3 different tickets!! Then, we all just hung out and enjoyed the snack table (YUM!) and I had brought some games - the same ones I had at the Altar Society Christmas Party - and we played those while Chelle was getting dinner on the table. I had forgotten that I had a trial run at Thanksgiving on the 'third verse' game, though. So, we didn't get to really play that one. Bert and Corgan both gave it a shot, but didn't do very well. Then came dinner - which was WONDERFUL. They also had wine for us, and a fancy juice for Corgan and Jean. It was a super time together. Then we all just hung out together some more, until time for Corgan to go to bed. He put out his goodies for Santa (even though he 'knows' - he still doesn't know all the magic) and trotted off and we read and whatnot until the magic hour. Bert and I stayed up talking and, at 2, realized that we had forgotten to put the breakfast casserole in the crockpot and went out into the kitchen, got out the crockpot, and put that all together, trying to be quiet, just like teenagers, I'm sure. We finally got it done, and I finally got Bert to get into the chair where she was sleeping and that we were going to get up in 4 hours, we've got to get to sleep! She had been drinking, and she tends to talk and talk and talk when she drinks, just like some other people I know and love.
12/25/13 CHRISTMAS
I overslept. Every year, I wake the house up at 6 am. I can NEVER sleep past 6 on Christmas morning. I am the biggest kid ever on Christmas morning. I admit it! I love it! Didn't happen this year, and I don't know why. I don't really remember falling asleep, but I remember turning off the light, then I hear feet on the steps and Corgan talking to Grandpa in the bedroom (I was on the couch in the living room). Here it is, quarter after 7, and Corgan is asking Grandpa should he wake me up? Usually he isn't allowed in the living room until Mom and Granny are ready with the cameras, so he had to ask someone for permission. I can't believe that I OVERSLEPT!! OMG!! Oh, well, I'll never live that one down.
Christmas went as Christmases do. Around nine, we munched on the breakfast casserole. Around noon, we munched on dinner leftovers. All afternoon, we munched on dinner leftovers. Finally, we loaded up and headed for home before dark. We certainly didn't want to meet any deer out running before settling down for the night, now did we?
We got home, got the car unloaded, and then ran Bert home. We got her stuff all carried in and came back home. I got all our stuff arranged under our little tree, which to my mind is where Christmas presents belong for a few days. I also did up the few dishes that were dirty. I don't know why. I knew I would have plenty of time tomorrow, but I felt like it, so I did.
We were both very tired, so we went to bed around 10:30. Something different, for sure!
12/26/13 The day after
I woke up today around 10:30 and laid in bed, finishing the book I've been reading. When I got up, I actually got on the damn exercise bike and rode it for a little over a mile. It's been such a long time since I've done that, my legs didn't feel so good. I really need to get back in the swing of things! Ugh.
I got on the pute and got all my pictures loaded up, and started labeling them. I was deep in that project when Ron called me - he's getting off work already, do I want to meet him uptown, and we'll go pay his ticket today? WOW. Okay. We can do that. The tentative plan had been for me to do it tomorrow, but - why not?
I finish (where I'm at) and close the pute down, then get dressed and off I go to meet Ron. We go and pay his ticket, then decide to run up to Eastgate. First we went to the car wash there in Batavia because he still had on his stinky work boots and he could rinse them down in the car wash (are we cheap or what?) and then - up the hill we went. We went to Golden Corral for a very late lunch, then over to Sam's Club for cases of water. As we were leaving Sam's, we noticed the sign saying that gasoline was $3.12 for Sam's Club members, so it was like "YES!!" because gas had gone up to $3.45 every else around. 3.12!! I filled my car up, and usually I only put 20 bucks in it at a time. Then we went over to Meijer's and I hit the after-Christmas sales. I stocked up on cards and wrapping paper for next year! Nothing like getting stuff for next to nothing, right?
We headed home and I almost forgot to stop at IGA to let him pick up his truck. Too funny!
We finally both got home, got stuff carried in, and got the Christmas lights plugged in. We watched my new movie "The Lone Ranger." If you've not seen this, you should. It's a really fun movie to watch! Johnny Depp, as usual, does an excellent job, and there are a few twists and turns you don't expect. And, of course, a few things happen that can only happen in the movies! But it's real fun to watch.
Supper tonight consisted of candy from our stockings. Nice, right? Neither of us were really hungry and neither of us really wanted any food - we just picked. Lunch was so late - after 3 - and lasted so long - you know how those buffets are! - that it really was enough food for all day.
I played on the pute all night, all through the movie and beyond. I got my games caught up, and I got the pictures all done and some posted. I am very happy with today!
I didn't put my food on MFP. I had meant to - I had meant to get everything back on schedule today, but then we went to Golden Corral. That shot that in the butt. I rode the damn exercise bike this morning, and meant to ride it again tonight, too. Phooey. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow. Tomorrow IS another day, you know.
Today is getting five stars for everything! Food was excellent - there was probably too much, but it was good. I did get some exercise in. A mile on the damn exercise bike, and some walking in stores as well. I, well we, accomplished some things today, too. Life is good - I've heard that somewhere.
