No exercise today...but a rescue

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Today started out as a wonderful lazy day.  I slept in, not waking until almost 10, then laid in bed reading until noon.  I got up, did the few dishes that were dirty, and put on a pot of beans (a 15-bean mix) for supper tonight.  Cooking them on medium and then low all afternoon, I thought, would make them be a good meal when Ron gets home, or 7, which is when we usually eat supper. Now that it's winter, he gets home earlier and that's a good thing, I think.  Maybe not on the paycheck, but definitely for us.
When I got on the pute, I found out that my sister needed a jump for her car - it would not start after these last couple of freezing-ass days.  Not a big surprise, right?  I'm sure she is not the only one, but she is the only one who I found out about.  Anyway, I spent probably close to an hour arranging for who and how could someone get up to Ruth's and get/give her this jump and get her car started, as they need the car first thing in the morning.  No pressing need today, but in the morning, yes.  We finally arranged that Ron would go up when he gets done with work today - whenever that would be.  That's always the key - when is Ron going to get off of work? - that none of us, even Ron, know.
While I am working out this puzzle, I eat my lunch.  I had my chicken salad, walnuts, and a banana.  I'm so glad I got those last night when I went to the store - I didn't realize how much I had missed having them here in the house, until I went to get one for my lunch today and there they were!

When it got to be around 4 or so, Ron called me.  "I'm so tired.  I know I said I'd go up to Ruth's, but I don't want to drive.  Can you come up to Georgetown and go with me?"  LOL  I really am not surprised by this - he does get tired of driving.  After all, he does it all day long.  So, I end up having to get dressed and go start and warm up MY car and drive to Georgetown anyway!  So much for saving a little bit of gasoline, huh?  Oh, well.  It's worth it for Ron's peace of mind.  I get dressed - bundled up against the cold - and I turn down the burner (all the way to simmer) under the pot of beans So, off I go.  I get up to Georgetown and we get up to Winchester and get Ruth's car started (one of Tracy's friends was already there, trying to give it a jump, but they didn't have a good connection and it wasn't working).  Ron futzed around with the cables, but thought they were faulty.  The girls went off to get another pair of cables (Ron's were not in his truck - he was embarrassed!), but Ron piddled around with Ruth's, hooked them up to his truck and POOF it worked.  Ruth's car started right up.  I texted the girls, so that they wouldn't worry about bringing the cables back, and they came back and all was okay.  Ruth drove the car up to the gas station, so it would charge the battery up that much and she wouldn't have to do that in the morning.  We followed her.  When she got back home, she re-started it after turning it off, so it really was okay.  We came on home.
Yay!  Rescue:  successful!

We get home, and Ron pretty much takes his shower right away, which is strange for him.  He likes to 'chill' a little bit first most of the time, but, okay.  Strange, but okay.
We eat our supper.  Yum - beans and bread&butter.  Not my most favorite meal, but definitely warming after being outside.  I got back on the pute, he turned on the TV.  Watched it through his eyelids, as is normal.  Wonderful, happy evening in the O'Toole house!

When I put my food into MFP, I was over 450 calories short for the day.  I'll take it!  Not 500 - not enough for it to holler at me, and I like that!  I am full, and I am satisfied, and I can't ask for much more than that.  I might have a snack before or when I go to bed.  Maybe.  I haven't decided yet, but that time is coming up quick...

I do have 2 job interviews tomorrow.  I'm still not sure if I even want to rejoin the working world, but with my unemployment running out, I've got to do something.  Blah.
If you feel like it, cross your fingers for me!  Maybe only halfway, for part-time work....lol
